I've just bought it, more for a laugh than anything. Any ideas what it's like for actual training purposes before I get engrossed?? |

Well I've got it now, and although I've not read it in full it seems quite good. It is very basic, so good for beginners. Because it's American, it does recommend you have a check chain for some of the methods, but obviously you wouldn't :D |

I did try a check chain with Heidi and it made no diffrence to her, I think I could have yanked on the thing till I made her go blue in the face and she would have still done her own thing. We found a harness was better as we could pull her back or out of bother with out hurting her and she felt more at ease with the harness plus it made catching the little monster easier when she didnt want to go back on the lead after a run about lol...terriers are stubborn brutes at time arent they lol... |

The problem with choke chains is that they choke! Seriously though, if soomeone was choking you, you'd do your damnest to get away from who was choking you wouldn't you? Choke chains only make a dog pull harder
:( After being taught the other week to use a gentle leader, I'd recommend it everytime :D |

I have recently bought a gentle leader for Roxy. What a difference. The only problem is she keeps trying to rub it off, she scratched her face quite badly, any tips on how to stop this. I have to decide which is better her scratching her face or me having my arm pulled out of its socket

i have just started a new technique with pulling on the lead and seems to be working a treat with my two and have been doin it for only 2 days. when the dog pulls take two steps back but dont pull on the lead. the dog hopefully will come back with you if not stand still for a while till its at your side if still not then a futher two steps back (you may look a bit silly but its worth it). once the dog by your side walk again... the dog will learn that it only gets to go when next to you and also learn that you are taking them for a walk not the other way round. hope this helps!!! |

hi tried that technique with my terror, and to some degree did work, i had tried the gentle leader too and he scratch his face and would sit down refusing to move. He now wears a harness and is starting not to pull so hard. Will continue to persivere. |
