Great demo Dawn. I am in the process (still!) of stripping Archie. I have used finger and thumb over his back. The top of his coat was parting and I would say he looked very much like the dog in your second photo. The hair came out with a gentle tug and he didn't seem to mind at all, I am sure he fell asleep at one point whilst I was doing it! I am finding the ruff around his neck a bit tricky. I think becuase the skin is looser there I am worried about hurting him and also his ears! The hair is so fine and baby like I don't want to hurt him. His belly too, I could go on!! maybe I will invest in a stripping knife. Helen x |

Thanks Jan I'll do that, his ears just seems so delicate (its just me being a softie!). There don't seem to be many handstrippers in Somerset unfortunately, so I'm having a go myself! Thanks for the advice xx |

It's a pity Helen you didn't have a breeder near to show you is there none atall? Anne that does mine uses scissors on the delicate area of the belly you know where the hair is alot finer, the ears just a couple of hairs out at a time & Archie won't feel it. |

I'm sorry to sound completely thick here with regarding the old stripping knife, but I've invested in a Mikki fine one. BorderDawn suggested blunting it, but how can I do that? Anyone got any suggestions? I just don't want to cut his coat. Thanks :ok: |

Ello! I used a fine file/rasp on it to blunt the edge, it worked fine for me afterwards, you must make sure the coat is ready for stripping first though. |

Well I have had a great morning today! I got over a few nerves, bit the bullet, and rang the owner of Archie's Dad. I said I had a few worries about stripping him and she invited me to her house and gave me a little lesson! Twas great and once I seen it I now know how to do it. She said I had made a good job of his back and she showed me how to trim his feet, do his tum and his bottom. Great stuff! I think if you want to do it yourself, then sometimes its good to contact your breeder and ask if they can show you. Could save loads of money for the future! Helen x |

Which is always important! When I clip Davey's penis & testicles he always spends at least half an hour checking them out properly! |

Now Rascal (Irish Terror) has been neutered can I still strip his coat? He was only neutered a week ago and is ready to be stripped, and is booked in next week, which the groomer says will be fine as his coat won't have changed yet but that it could be hard/sore to strip it in the future. :err: Any advice............ |

Boo was spayed over 5 years ago and is still stripped. Whilst there is more undercoat than Davey's and certain parts like shoulders & throat take longer and more patience to do, it's still one heck of a hard coat and if I'm careful can keep her in coat for about 12 months without it blowing. Others might find differently but that's my experience. |
