When checking my 2’s feet last night was horrified to see what I think is a penetrating grass seed in Daisy’s paw.No sign of a seed but a little hole in the flesh and it’s red and tender. She hasn’t been limping or licking her paw at all which surprised me.If it was a seed surely she’d have been uncomfortable? Will try to get a vet appointment for this evening but worried now.If a seed has penetrated where will it go to? I do check their feet frequently so can’t believe I missed this. |

This is another of my very old fashioned remedies, and I have to say , works very well for humans and animals alike, there is a yellow gooey substance you can purchase from health food stores, and some chemists, called "bee'swax" it looks suspiciously like ear wax to me, but it's not, anyway, any small foreign bodies/splinters can be treated with it, by applying it directly to the area, then left for a few hours, it "draws" the object to the surface, and then can be removed very easily with tweezers or something of the like. I recommend every houisehold has a pot of beeswax to hand, as it does seem to appease all situations of foreign bodies before you can remove them yourself, or the vets r Dr's I would say take Daisy to the vets as you are doing so already, as by now it may be a little too deep for the beeswax to work. Could it possibly be a penetration hole from perhaps a thorn or something similar which may have already come away ? Grass seeds are evil little blighters, my bearded collie I had got a seed in her eye, and poor wee thing had a swollen eye of which see kept pawing till our vet removed it :( she repayed him kindly with a hooooooge kiss on the face. Good luck little Daisy and I will be thinking of you and your mummy  |

Oh poor Daisy, best to get it checked out if you've only just noticed as it could have been there a while I suppose. If it's not evident that something is stuck, then perhaps as Tammi said, she might have trodden on a thorn or a nail maybe? |

Did wonder but the hole is in the upper most bit of the flap between the toes, which is where I've removed seeds from before.I know that can be very tricky to treat have an appointment for 5.40 - more money in a bad month but hey.Tammi thanks for the tip about the wax - sounds like a good one to hunt down. |

That dog's going to bankrupt you
;) Like the idea of the beeswax may have to pop to the health food shop and get some. |

Aww poor daisy! Hopefully the vet will be able to identify if she still has a seed stuck in her paw... Its something I dread as Archie seems to be a grass seed magnet, and he hates his feet being touched! It is very difficult to look at his for any length of time but he's getting better. I had a splinter the other day off a gate (went right to the bottom of my thumb nailbed! Ouch) and I bathed it in salty water for a while which made it come out easier... Hopefully it doesn't hurt her too much if she's not licking at it  |

Well he doesn't think it's a grass seed, more likely a hair follicle that's infected or possibly a thorn as suggested by Tammi but agrees it's an odd position but with her who knows! A mate sent me a packet of these ages ago so ideal opportunity to try them out as she has to take antibiotics for 10 days and have to say they work a treat (awful pun) Duncan's feeling very hard done by - Daisy's getting a treat twice a day and he isn't - poor half starved fellow. |

Lucky Daisy! When Archie has had to have tablets, I stuck them in a small blob of pate which he loved (but gave him wind!). The last lot he had I didn't bother as he's such a piggie he will eat them on their own, he can swallow them before they get tasted! Hope she's on the mend soon  |

OK more to the saga - Saturday evening she was licking her paw and decided to have another look at it,gave a very gentle squeeze and out popped a grass seed! Don't know why the vet missed it but it's out now and the paw has really recovered well. But so surprised she wasn't limping or licking it until I started bathing it. |

Great news to hear the seed has freed itself
:yay: I admit I also use pate to hide pills in for all the animals, although I did see the Trojan pill treat pockets at one of my local rescues last week, the other thing I use is cornbeef, as you can mould it around pills and the girls think they are having a tasty snack, but the second treat contains a pill....sneaky mummy I am :P Even Nooodles will take a pill this way, and he's the one in the family who manages to even fool the vets with spitting pills out. |

:yay: What did you bathe it in to encourage it out? Just in case I need to do the same?! |

Just salt and cool boiled water - 1 teaspoon to a cup.I use the corned beef too for pills, makes them think they're getting something special! |
