Anyone know of a squeeky toy that is terrier proof. Red had two and wiped them out in no time, under supervised play. He loves them and I want to get one to try and distract him with it when out on a lead and meeting other dogs. There has got to be one out there somewhere. :-)

Thanks all :-)

Well if there is I've not found it - Duncan demolishes any I buy in about 30 seconds flat,Daisy a few seconds longer :P I did try this with Daisy for a while just squeaking the toy to get her attention but not giving it to her.It worked for a time but you do need to be careful with other dogs around who also love squeaky toys, you soon attract a crowd.

Thanks Zandd, yip a crowd would not be the best lol. Your right I dont think one exists out there lol. I may try one for distraction I'll test it out and use sparringly. Good day with Red today, he is flying with the clicker training. I started using it to shape his behaviour with other dogs. Had a dog at a distance, right on Red's threshold and clicked for calm good behaviour and treat. Also he could do sit under this stress. One or two barking fits. Then soon as he takes a breath maybe a second pause a click n treat and again back to a hightened state but not asbo nutout barking. Plus I got him to follow his commands again. In a non threatening enviroment ie garden or house. Red can touch, sit and now lay. He can stay for 20 seconds, also stay while I turn my back on him and walk the length of the garden. turn look at him, walk back to him then click treat. Its defo a great tool to shape his behaviour and even though its early days we are getting great results. Hopefully this will be the main weapon on the streets to get him calm. Then 8 weeks training at the center should nail the socialisation, I hope :-)

Ps it also helps us as we now look for dogs as oppose to avoiding them :-)

Great progress - I could never get the hang of clicker training, too slow with the clicks  I bought a couple of latex balls today from PAH and the latex definitely lasts longer than vinyl - at least another 30 seconds.......

I've found that the Cuz toys that they sell in the larger Pets at Home has lasted Archie well - he's chewed the feet a bit but the ball part with the squeak in is still intact (he was bought it around November).

Other than that, the best rubber squeaky toy I've found is made by Pedigree and I've seen for sale in Asda. They are dumbell shaped and one end has a squeak in - the rubber is as tough as a kong and Archie hasn't managed to make any impression on his.

Have been trying to find them on line but not had much luck... will keep trying :)

I'll give that a try - is the squeak like the vinyl ones ie high pitched? Cuz toys are great too but that's the only thing my two have fought over - Daisy got VERY protective of hers and really flew at Duncan when he went near it so that got removed real fast - wonder if she thought it was a puppy cause it's never happened with anything else.

It makes quite a low noise - I think the reed bit is in the join between the 2 ends, so you squeeze one end and it kind of honks  There's no plastic pod thingy like you get in soft toys to come loose either which is marvellous ;)

the pedigree bone that Claire mentions are great, Buffy has one and she loves it. It doesn't have that high pitched sound like the normal squeeky's but she hasn't managed to kill it yet - they normall last all of 5 minutes!

I'll look out for that sqeeky bone as I've been trying to find one like it.

Who knows, it may even last more than a few minutes in the paws and teeth of Sam the destroyer

BTW I'm new here and have only just introduced myself. Thanks for the useful info.

Yoyo has had a squeaky burger and a hotdog that my MIL bought him for Christmas. They still squeak and they don't have any holes in :yikes: I think they were only from the pound shop!

Just to confirm this squeaky toy is brilliant. Still going strong after 3 days, I think its like captain scarlet - indestructible!
