Lucy has got the diarrhea again! :( Started to come on last weekend now its projectile. The grandkids did put ham and crisps in her bowl last weekend but she had gobbled it before I had realized it was there. It was only a few weeks back that she last had it and it lasted about two weeks  She seems well in herself though :) Is it common for older dogs to suffer from it? I am giving her tablets from the vet which he gave me last time as I had a few left (Kaobiotic) but they don't seem to be working so far and they didn't have much effect last time either :( and they cost me £35) Last time I changed her from Iams complete for Seniors to JWB for seniors and she became fine :) She has been on this since but now the diarrhea is back :( The only thing she has had different was the ham and crisps. Don't want to go back to the vet just yet as it is so expensive so has anyone got any ideas in the meantime? Tried giving her chicken breast and boiled rice last time as the vet suggested but it made the situation worse, and she started to eat her poo  |

Oh dear that's very worrying. She must have a very sensitive tum if small pieces of ham could affect her so much.Have you tried giving her yoghurt at all - plain boiled rice with some probiotic yoghurt mixed in should help.I would starve her for 12 hours - totally but leave plenty of water obviously then give her the rice and yoghurt.Don't leave her too long with diarrhoea,it can be very debilitating for a small dog.Chappie is a good food for dogs with sensitive tums also if you haven't tried it yet. |

Poor Lucy :( I'm sorry I don't really have any useful advice. Starving her then the chicken and rice sounds like a good idea, but agree that if it carries on a trip to the vets might be in order. Hope she's better soon :crossedfingers: |

Thanks everyone :thanks: Starving her today until tea time. Going to try a little chiken breast and rice and if that doesn't work I will try the yoghurt and failing that it's the vet. The worrying thing is she is going in the kennels on Sunday for a week but they do use the same vet as me but need to get her right before she goes in :( Dogs are such a worry at times especially when they get old  She ran to her bowl this morning wagging her tail as she does every morning and I had to say "no" I feel so mean :( |

Gave her a little bit of chicken and rice at 7pm, that is the only food she has had today apart from water. She has just done a projectile watery poo in the garden :( My daughter and her friend have been here all day and commented on how well and lively she looks so I suppose thats a good sign :) I am still worried though :( will give it another day and if there is no improvement will take her to the vets. |

Sounds like gastroenteritis rather than an intolerance to food, she may have picked up a bug, don't leave her too long before seeing a vet. |

Hope she's feeling a bit better this morning. Was going to suggest the probiotic yoghurt but noticed Lynne got there first. |

Just had Lucy to the vet and he doesn't think it is anything serious :) maybe a touch of colitis, a bug, or maybe she has eaten something in the garden which she shouldn't  she has a particular liking for toadstools which appear in the lawn when it needs cutting  He has given her some tablets to make her gut feel more comfortable and some granuals to sprinkle on her food to thicken the motions. If this doesn't work and there is no improvement then I have to take her back to try something else. DOG's WHO'D HAVE EM!!!!!!!! |

Aww Lucy :phew: Have to admire her for being able to sniff out the toadstools even if she can't see them  Archie is the same with the grapes on my vines, I really have to watch him with them. |

 Lucy loves grapes too although I daren't give her any these days  when she could see I used to throw them to her and she would catch them like a seal catching fish
 That was how I noticed she was going blind because she kept missing the grapes. Just a quick update - Things seem to be " firming up " |

Is she drinking OK? If she is don't worry too much, if she isn't I think you may need to contact your vet. |
