:yikes: French bulldogs? Are you sure?! Having lived in Cumbria for a couple of years and known a fair few working terrier men and gamekeepers, I thought that Patterdales were originally the name given to several strains of true-breeding black working terriers from the Lakes. Like 'Jack Russell' being used to describe any hound-marked terrier, the name has now been highjacked to describe any solid-coloured black or liver / mahogany terrier - (and there would be whole-coloured working terriers all over the UK, not just in the Lakes) the majority of which aren't actually pure-bred or indeed bred from working parents. Lots of working Lakelands are black too. I know there are obvious touches of working bull terrier blood in some patterdale types, but French Bulldogs being used is a new one on me! Why introduce FB blood - what could it provide to benefit a working terrier?! The main factor in a working terrier is that it is spannable - not the leg length. Most of the working Lakies and Patterdales you see out with the fell packs are actually long-legged. You've really made me curious now!!! :) |

 Hiya! Love the descriptions of patties! My beautiful Sally is a long legged, tan coloured version. She's 14 inches tall and 6 1/2 kilo's. When she's in the house she's asleep (usually burrowed under the covers) but as soon as she's been dragged outside she's bright eyed and will go all day. (We broke down and got lost this summer and it took us 7 1/2 hours to walk home over all the downs. Sal caught 2 rabbits on the way, then got out her fave toy as soon as we got home!!) She is the most affectionate dog I've ever known, she will cuddle up on my lap all day (especially if it's raining!) And so clever! She is my first terrier, having grown up with retrievers, I am totally converted! |
