Dog Groomer In West Wales?

Hello everyone

I've just moved to West Wales with my two Westies and need to find a dog groomer.

I wonder if anyone else lives round here and can recommend one? I have the dogs clipped rather than stripped and am looking for a kind, caring place to take them. I'd like a personal recommendation if poss, rather than just taking pot luck from the Yellow Pages and so thought I'd ask here.

I am between Cardigan and Carmarthen, so round there would be great please.

Can any one help me please? :flower:

Hi and welcome! There are quite a few people in Wales on board so hopefully someone will be able to help you! I'm in Scotland so pretty useless I'm afraid!

Why don't you post a bit about yourself and your Westies in Intro's? :D And some pictures :D

Quite some way from West Wales I'm afraid, Mr Ed has terrier connections in Llanelli, maybe he could make enquiries for you?

There's a wonderful Cairn breeder called Geoff Thomas (kennel name Tycadno) who offers a full grooming service, including hand stripping. they can pick up and drop off your dog, plus they also have a mobile grooming operation. He's based near Swansea if that's any use.

Yep they are very nice, they are both good with dogs. Both strict and kind. They got some fantastic show dogs there and few nutty buggers as they keep and look after the old dogs too after their show days and/or get them homed to a chosen few. They are dog people through and through. I can not vouch for how well they can do your dog but they do wire foxes and lakies perfect - all hand stripped. Kevin is a judge in many shows so I'm guessing they will do a good job :-) Try and see I guess - but yep very nice people :-) and very commited to the breed :-) But when I say dog people through and through I mean for the dog not themselves hence bathed and fluffed up with a hair drier and a doggy jumper put on will not be happening :-)

Aw well, I'm not toooo fussy or precise about what the clip looks like, I'm more concerned about my doggies being comfy and the people who do the clipping being nice to them.

Having followed this philosophy though, I once took them to a lovely lady to be clipped, on a recommendation from the person who ran our training classes. She was very caring but hadn't clipped many Westies before I don't think, and so clipped them at 2cms all over, even their heads, rather than leaving them with the usual round little faces. They looked like miniature polar bears with their coats the same length all over!!

I just burst out laughing when I saw them, couldn't help it, and she and I then had a good giggle about it but she found someone else for me who had a bit more experience with Westies for their future hair dos!! :D

We-ell,

Things went a bit pear shaped in the end, as the clippers went a bit bonkers and decided to slow down and speed up, cut and then not cut, etc.

Holly doesn't look too bad although she has a little baldy spot on one a*se cheek  , but Pip is definitely a bit of a patchwork of baldy bits and long bits!

Anyway, these things happen and I'm to take them back again when the clipper manufacturer has been remonstrated with and the baldy bits have grown back! :D

Muwhahahaaaa yep just had a phonecall to say what had happend, she was gutted as they are perfectionists and said I'm so embarresed lol. She said the new morso clippers are on the way and she'll do they'll do the next one for free. She said if it had been a regular customer then that would have been fine as she knows them very well but was gutted as it was someone new lol. Damn shame as Kev does do a nice clipper cut whereas his misses is better on the hand stripping and scissors work. So soz to hear how it went, hope you go back for the free one. If it was me I'd have stopped when the clippers started to play up and given you a half done doggy lol and gone out and ordered another pair and done it a few days later. Would look wild though you walking a half done doggy. Again soz for that as I recommend you, but the Lakies and Wirefoxes they do are awesome. She's doing two lakies tomorrow, I'm going up next weekend probably and will be having a few more stripping lessons then :-) Did you find the place ok, that one hell of a big hill in it :-)

Archie walks around half-stripped most of the time

Pippin sorry there was a problem with the clippers on this occasion, sounds like the next time will be much better :D
