Hey everyone! This is my first post. I am writing to tell you all about my 3 year old cross breed terrier called Islay. She is a star!!
We've just started competing in KC agility comps. No big rosettes yet but it's just the start of the season!
Has anyone got any tips for weave training? She's brilliant at everything else but we're really struggling with weave. Appreciate any advice!!
Claire and Islay :)

Hi Claire

:welcome: to TT.

The biggest bit of advice I can give is train your weaves on the lead until Islay has really got the idea and make it really fun, fun, fun with loads of playing tuggy at the end and don't be in a hurry to get to the next piece of equipment. When you are at a show still make a big fuss of her if she gets them right.

Always work them as if there are 2 more and don't lift your head until she is all the way through.

At a show if she is really struggling to get the entry or keeps popping out don't be afraid to take hold of her collar and gently guide her through then thank the judge and leave the ring, making sure you stop the clock. No judge minds you doing this as long as you don't take the pee and finish the course. I know the seems strange but you have loads of shows to do in the future and if you get her confident in the ring you wont get dishearthened and start a vicious circle.

Let us know how you get on.

:thanks: Thanks for the greeting everyone! Thanks for the advice Paula. She gets her entry fine but then seems to get bored half way through! We have training weaves in the garden and is doing well on them but at training she injured her leg on the heavier weaves they've got there and seems to have a mental block with them there now. I am convinced it's because she hurt her leg on them but my trainer isn't so sure. We've got another KC show on Sunday so fingers crossed!!!!!

Hi Claire

Can you post some close up pics of Islay. Do you know what type of terriers her parents were?

Looking at the avatar pic looks like a bit of Cairn Terrier in there somewhere :D
She looks like my last cairn Lucy but with turned down ears!

I don't know anything about her past. I'm a vet and she came in on Xmaz eve 2003 with parvo. Her owners didn't come back for her. :( My luck really as she is a cracking dog! :yay: I think she may be a JRT x Yorkie x Cairn. If you screw up your eyes you could imagine lots of different breeds in her! I don't know how to post pictures. Help!

Just spotted this. :welcome: She's gorgeous, how awful for her owners to just abandon her like that. Still she's obviously better off with you and being a vet, well I'm sure you will be very useful on this forum

 Aww that little face could be my Lucy  but with turned down ears

She wouldn't have won any prizes at a Cairn show bless her because she came from a cowboy breeder but we loved her.

Hi there. Just thought I'd give you an update on my wee lass. In her jumping class we did a brilliant round. only 5 faults but not on the weaves! She was ace at them. Then the judge tells me the timer was faulty and I'd have to do it again! :( In her next go we were eliminated. I was gutted.... Her other jumping class we got 10 faults and came 7th so all in all it was a great day!! :D
