I have another idea, and this time it's about the layout. First, why not make "Happy Endings" a subforum of "Dogs Looking for Homes." Second, I think you should have an "Off Topic" forum, and put the debate and support forums in there. Then make the dog debates a subforum of debates, and combine the "Having Problems?" and "Suggestions" forum to be just one forum. It would look nicer, be a shorter forum, and have more posts in each one. |

Sounds more than a little complicated to me! One of the reasons I like this forum is because it's pretty straightforward. No offense meant but I didn't find Pet Central particularly user friendly for that reason. :) |

Must say I think everything is set out really well in TT and to over complicate the folders will mean things get missed so please just leave us old fogies alone :P |

The problem with subforums is that it's all to easy to miss things. I've tried to limit them but sometimes it's necessary. You might have to scroll further to get to the Suggestions section, but at least you know where everything else is. And I'd rather not have more posts in the Having Problems section thank you! :D :lol: |

Thanks for the suggestions, but I think I speak for most members when I say we are chuffed with Terrier Talk as it is and its been a successful forum for a long time. We pride ourselves on a friendly forum with the ability to debate and talk about anything in a friendly and adult manner, we dont need all singing and all dancing, we find our outlay exactly what we require. Many thanks Hyper123 for your suggestions, of course we always listen to any suggestion and take each one seriously. Dawn. |

Might sound like JRT worship here :P but have to agree,the simpler the forum the easier it is to find things quickly - very useful when logging on in a hurry at work :whistle: Changes have been made in the past - areas which weren't used have been dropped,suggestions have been taken up and I daresay this will continue in the future. |

Ok...sorry. I understand. But this isn't something I just came up with off the top of my head, if that's what you think...I've gotten tips from a lot of people with experience. They think subforums make the forum look nicer and more user friendly. And Pet Central wasn't like that until I got tips from a lot of people to change the layout and shorten it up a bit. And it did hurt a little when you said "please just leave us old fogies alone." It was just a suggestion...I'm not trying to run things, but to be honest the way you worded that doesn't make me feel entirely welcome here. |

I'm not trying to make you feel unwelcome it just hurts a bit when someone new arrives and within a day is making suggestions on how everything should be changed on a forum that is very popular the way it is. Perhaps you should join in for a bit before effectively critising what Laura has achieved. |

Hyper 123, please don't worry or feel unwelcome. Terrier Talk is an extremely inclusive forum, incredibly as it might seem, in the time I've been a member I can't remember even one dog fight happening. Mostly this is because we allow each other to rub along, try to understand others viewpoints etc. I think a lot of us share an inbreed dislike to the "My Way or The Highway" philosopy of life, perhaps the reason your suggestions, made so quickly and emphatically, jarred. The internet is a fantastic tool, uniting people from vastly different cultural backgrounds but we do need to learn how to adapt given different sensibilities. Most of us feel that Laura has developed a really friendly, understanding forum - almost unique in its ability to be interesting without provoking animosity at the sametime. Stick around and join in, after all it's not important how a book looks (other than to a retailer!), it's the content that makes it interesting. Laura, ta muchly for this And who knows, given time you might even find that you enjoy it so much, you're prepared to overlook our little quirk's of format. ;) |

I wasn't criticizing; I only thought it would be nice that way and thought maybe you guys would think the same. I like this forum -- I just had some ideas I thought would make it even better. No need to have hurt feelings.

OK guys Hyper123 has made some suggestions,responses have been given.All are welcome here,we do take on suggestions - but they are suggestions,folks aren't always going to agree. ;) Please carry on contributing to the forum,the friendliness here is a major strength - especially given some of the hostilities that arise on others :D and the fact that we agree to disagree on a wide range of issues is what keeps it running so well. |
