Well, it's dawned on me that the Trading Post idea isn't making an awful lot of progress. I'm currently having a major (and I mean major!) sort out and for the past few days have been washing and ironing outgrown childrenswear, clearing out books, toys etc all to go on Ebay. I'd also like to put all my trading post items there too, though I'd like to stagger the sales so there's money coming in regularly throughout the year. I'd like to give the proceeds to a dog charity and was thinking of maybe one charity a month being nominated or a number of favourite charities being shortlisted. For a bit of fun, I thought we might select the 'winner' by: (a) Say we have a shortlist of 6 nominated charities. Each charity can be represented by a small toy/object/scrap of paper witha number on it, placed in a box/bag/old pillowcase! Then either Summer, Emily, Patrick etc can reach in, pick out one and the money goes to the charity it signifies. Of course we'll need photographic proof (!) - not much of a hardship if we get to see these cuties on a regular basis. (b) maybe the winner of that months photographic competition could choose - therefore more incentive to enter © we could start a Letter of The Month competition? Or Best Bit of Advice given? You may feel it's a bit complicated, in which case, maybe it could be simplified. Mike feels I could just sell stuff and donate quietly and privately - he does have a point, but I'm really not affiliated and don't have particularly strong feelings about any one charity - there's much to recommend all of them and I'd like to give lots of them a bit of support. |

It think it's a lovely idea, I'm going to have a think about the points you've made. Perhaps when Laura is back we'll see if she has any ideas too. |

:wacko: Sorry I've only just seen this :rolleyes: It's a fabulous idea, I don't mind which of the methods is used - they all sound great! The only problem with B is that they don't run every month. Anyone else have any comments ro suggestions? |

Well Mike arrived back from his cricket tour about an hour ago and he's booked the rest of the week off, so I'll start loading things on ebay. Laura my mum's an amazing knitter and did lots of cute cardigans for Mattie; they'll probably still be a bit big for Summer but I'll take some photos of them for you. Must say it's very therapeutic, having a big sort out. Though not quite so exciting as when we were clearing the house after my mother-in-law died. She was an amazing woman - even at 70 she had the body and complexion of a 40yr old and an astonishing zest for life. So it shouldn't have come as a surprise to discover she had two toys boys in her final years over and above the one we already knew of, plus a stash of opium and a hash pipe in her jewellery box. Way to go Marjorie! |
