 For the last couple of weeks Archie has been licking more than usual - I was just keeping an eye on it as I thought it might be down to his new diet. He will even sit with his head handing and lick at nothing...

Several times I've tried having a good look in his mouth but not seen anything - nothing caught between his teeth etc. This evening I've noticed a pink swelling on the roof of his mouth right up by his front teeth. I haven't seen inside another dogs mouth and can't remember ever having seen this before on him - can anyone check their dog's mouth for me and see if it should be there  :(

Going to make a vets appointment for the morning.

Mine are both asleep at the moment, but do remember they have a ridged area just behind the teeth, don't think it's pink though  Think a trip to the vet would be best,he may just scratched it.

thanks for looking, Archie definitely has a pink pimply thing at the front. Since I've been looking at it he's had a drink and drank very slowly as if its hurting him. Tried to take a photo but he didn't keep still enough. Hopefully he's either bashed it or got a grass cut in his mouth as he's always grazing.

OK I've risked losing a couple of fingers here with Daisy  she does have the ridged area behind teeth and that is pink and black in colour, doesn't really feel like a lump though - definitely more of a ridge.Duncan who is much more obliging has the black roof of mouth, again ridged.

Claire, I've just checked Harvey and he does have a small lump behind his front teeth that is a pinkish black (not something I've ever checked before). I'm sure it must be perfectly normal to be there but would be interested to see what your vet says.

Well we've been to the vets, and she said it did look 'odd and unusual'. She thinks it could possibly be a grass seed that has got stuck in there, but that they could only be sure by knocking him out and having a good dig around.

He's got some antibiotics and anti inflamatories and he's got 5 days to see if it goes down, if not she wants him in for a proper look. Lets hope the swellnig goes down :crossedfingers:

Marie if Harvey isn't bothered by his then I wouldn't worry. When I had a good look at the thing in Archie's mouth he flicked his tongue in and out for a good minute afterwards, then was drinking very gingerly like the lump was hurting.

Thanks Claire, certainly doesn't bother him, and it is small, no wider than the 2 middle teeth.

Ears and eye's too. I flush their eyes out with saline solution everyday at this time of years.

Poor Archie - certainly the season for grass seed-related problems isn't it.

Poor Archie, must be awful for him like having something stuck in your teeth or when you burn the top of your mouth when you're eating a pizza that's too hot (normally the thick crust ones)

He's ok until he starts licking something - then his tongue is in and out like a lizzard and I have to tell him to stop it
