That's a bit scary Janet, I will watch out. Just out of interest though how can people who you knew before you got married find you then?

You could put your name as Jenny Smith-Harris for instance if your maiden name was smith. There was an artical on the news about identity fraud a couple of weeks back warning people about putting too much information about themselves on web sites such as My Space and Facebook. It said not to give birth dates and town you were born in because fraudsters could look up birth records and find mothers maiden name etc so they could access your bank account and apply for credit cards etc in your name.

Makes me want to join up even less now! Do you have to enter that sort of info as a requirement or is it optional?

What do you do on facebook anyway

Optional Claire :) I don't have my birthdate on there or the town I live in and I have it set for "friends" only to see my profile. That is people I have requested or accepted an invatation to be one of my friends. I have had friends requests from 2 people in America and one in Australia so far but I ignored them. You just click on the ignore button. I don't want just anyone seeing my profile. Just in case a hacker can get into it I have limited personal details. There is an awful lot of people on there with the same name as me. I suppose anyone could look on this or any other site and get personal details if they wanted like birthdates for example but at least on here most have a user name and no surnames. Perhaps I should have a user name on here rather than Janet  Putting any personal details on any site on the net has an element of risk. more so on Facebook and My Space because they are popular and the most used

I'm still finding my way round and doubt I'll ever get fully drawn in but a word of warning too - more and more companies are checking sites like Facebook/MySpace/Bebo etc for job applicants.Word is some people have had applications ignored because of what they have posted (and what photos they post) on these sites.

My surname is so unusual (anyone with it in this country is related to me!) that I'm not going to use any of those kind of websites that require it... really don't want to be looked up by all those morons I went to school with

TT's bit is down at the moment (probably caused by me putting on my profile :P ) so Laura may be playing with it.

It appeals to the younger generation more than anything. I just have a laugh with the young ones I work with and my daughters friends passing jokes and videos etc and playing games. When I can find the time of course  They think it's cool that an old fogey like me can use facebook
