In need a bit of advice about Jacks behaviour. Ive been staying with my parents over christmas and Jack has been getting on really well with Holly and Robbie. Robbie has always been noisy with other dogs on his lead and when I walk them all together it really gets Jack going which I suppose is understandable if not a bit annoying. However now he has started barking even if the other two arent bothered and today he actually ran upto and started a fight with another dog despite the fact both rob and hol were on their leads with me. This ended in him getting kicked and me being sworn at and now I feel quite upset, especially as it was me in the wrong.

He can be a bit stand offish with dogs usually but all his signalling is fine. I took him out on his own the other day in a situation where there were lots of dogs and he was quite confident - marching around with his tail in the air even to dogs much bigger than him, but he still played with them ok. I dont think it helped this morning that the man had his dog by the collar as they could interact, but it confuses me more why he would start a fight with a dog much bigger with him when he is off the lead, im nowhere near, and the dog is attached to a big aggressive man! Is he stupid or what!

I presume it must be something to do with the fact that now he is part of a doggy pack. As far as I can tell he is bottom of the pack, he is respectful of robbie and despite Hollies age she has a stare that can strike fear into anyones heart. Is he trying to impress them, or does he feel backed up and confident now he has a crew behind him? I hope someone has some good advice, I feel like its my fault as Jack was really good when I got him and now he is ASBO dog!

Poor you :flower: does sound like a leadership issue to me. Sorry I can't offer any advice, do you have access to Sky as I watched a program over the weekend called the Dog Whisperer, the man on there dealt with these kind of issues, heres a linkI'm sure someone here will be along to offer advice soon ;)

Cesar Milan? Wouldn't touch him with a barge pole and I don't of many that actually agree with his archaic methods of training. He doesn't always go for the 'kind' approach if you know what I mean. Don't want to start a disagreement, just stating my opinion.

I don't know much about Jack's history so I can't really comment on his behaviour, but is he normally better behaved if he's walked on his own?

Cesar Miller does a lot more harm than good when he manhandles and bullies dogs. Many shut down completely and once that happens, it is very difficult to get the dogs back. Also, a dog did die when in his care for training.

CM is a groomer and not a trainer but I wouldn't let him near my dogs. :x:

Can you give more information about Jack please.

How old is he, what breed, how old when you got him, etc, the more information the better.

oo sorry I didnt really explain myself properly. I got jack in august, hes a terrier cross - he is the one in the picture under my name, robbie and holly are my family dogs - a border and a welsh. Jack is 4, Robbie is 7, holly is 14. He usually lives with me at university and we have just been visiting mum for christmas.

Im confident when we go back home that he will be ok although I realise I have some training to do with him when he is on his lead - I think there was info on another thread about a 'watch me' command that will be useful. I just dont understand within why - if he is under the others within the pack- he thinks he has to initiate confrontations with other dogs. On the walk just now we saw a dog when they were all on the leads and I managed to get the attention of the other two and jack was like a mad barking idiot at the end of the lead - which he never usually does. Its as if jacks taken over robbies role at keeping dogs away and robbie is taking a back seat. But I thought it was the job of the pack leader to do the protecting  Im confused, but I thought some of you who are a bit more dog psychology savvy might have an answer.
