So for those of you that do work your dogs what "training" do you do with them? OH just wants Shrek to learn his recall and that is it ...... I say that is it .... it is a task and a half in itself! Obvously for those using the dog as a beating dog I know what you need to do. But for the more traditional "ratter" is there anything you do or do you just let em get on with it as my OH says!! |

One of Jess's brothers works for Pest Control in Gloucester, not sure who with though. When Midge first went out it was with another dog, he picked up what to do really quicky by all accounts and now has earnt himself a good reputation. In his case I think it was an inbuilt natural reaction,I don't think an awfull lot of training had to be given. Judging by Jess's reaction to Rats, Mice and Squirrels if put with the right dog, I don't think it would take her long to gain a similar reputation  |

Try getting in touch with your local branch of the Fell and Moorland Working Terrier Club. They have a really nice website. I think it is fellandmoorlandwtc.co.uk Probably easier to google 'fell & moorland wtc'! |

First of all let the pup grow a bit, at least 7mths before he sees an adult Rat. Most Terriers will kill vermin without any encouragement, a grab and shake, or often they grab, get bitten, then lose their rag and shake for all they are worth! You must be aware that a Terrier can get bitten, sometimes quite badly, but Ratting is relatively tame in most cases. Many pups do well to go with experienced Terriers, they catch on quickly then. |

Thanks for that he will be starting on rats and may be used for bigger vermin depends on what the OH does with him. |
