Went to a show expecting it to rain all day so had all my wet weather gear but now sun block so now have a red nose. Ho Hum.

Thomas was a very good boy all day and got a 1st in his jumping class, I was sooo pleased you wouldn't believe.

Dudley would have got a 4th in his agility but they only placed to 3rd :(

I did see Lorna for about 2 seconds but I was helping on a ring so didn't get a chance to chat.

Well, i'm a tad depressed as Peggy had the worst weekend EVER! :(

We did a UK agility show on Sat, and she did Steeplchase first - which she went clear in, but she was incredibly slow - not my dog at all. She practically walked around!!!
Her agility round was just embarassingly awful - she didn't even move off the start line and then refused ALL contacts and most of the jumps - so I just took her out of the ring. Her last run for jumping was equally as funny - same thing really - and in between deciding not to jump she would stop and have a little scratch then just sit there looking around.
I think it was too hot for her and she couldnt cope. She didnt seem overly hot (no panting or distress), and I had plenty of water and shade for her, but she just didnt want to do agility!

And yesterday - her first run was agility and I had no idea what she was going to do based on Sat performance and in the end, she had a great run - but just decided to do some extra big cricles around the tunnel before going in  then she missed one of her contacts as she was too fast and ahead of me and I wasn't there to slow her down. So - I thought - here we go - by the time we get to jumping she will be calmed down and great.......but the sun came out, it got humid, and just before we were due to go in, she started panting (I had given her water before we left the car) and so when we started the course, she did the whole 'not jumping' thing. I did manage to get her clear until the 3rd but last obstacle (which was a flat tunnel) and then she just went straight past it. At least she only got 5 faults in that one with a REALLY slow time (still within course time though). At the end of that one, one of the helpers said to me 'well, that was really entertaining!'

She embarrased me A LOT this weekend :D

I don't think she is going to work well in humidity or heat, so I need to think how I can address that if she is going to have a successful season.

Any tips/ideas??

 well done Thomas and Dudley!

Poor Peggy! All dogs have their off-days though. I'm sure she'll come bouncing back into form :)

Ohhh naughty Peggy!
Lorna, a friend of mine has a dog that is similar to brandy but hairier, and feels the heat, this may sound strange, but she tries to get her a bit wet before they go anywhere to keep her cool! eg any taps they see, let her go under it, water bottles, just over her back etc!

Yep - I was thinking of that - bringing a load of water and maybe a toweling coat I can soak - just to keep her cool. I also have a reflective coat I can put over the top to stop the sun drying it out.
We have training tomorrow so hopefully she will be back to her usual self!

I have this with Dudley and tend to wet his tummy more just before we run as I find this cools him down better.
