Just realised I didn't scan the article in! http://www.minashouse.btinternet.co.uk/001.jpg Here it is, although you might have to tip the monitor over to read it! I've been working on his Gold with a new training club, but it sounds like their examiner is a bit of a dragon and doesn't give allowances for breed and generally fails dogs that show any reluctance at being examined, and also fails if we 'train' our dogs to be examined. :err: She apparently has dogs that will let anyone poke them about and thinks all dogs should be the same! So I had a quiet word with the trainer (who is lovely and very good but does talk a lot so we don't always get much done) and she's said keep training, she will examine Fred every week how he is comfortable and as he gets more at ease will push a tiny bit each week, and every time she pushes and he accepts it another club member will do a quick examine so he gets used to being inspected by strangers. And then we are going to take the test either where we took the Silver, or at the clubs second hall/classes which will have another examiner! |

Have you done your Gold? Massive well done for getting silver, the examination by someone else is why I can't enter Sally. She hates other people touching her paws. |

No, I gave up on the idea for a while. I have been given some new ideas on getting him used to being handled at the training course I did recently, and am handling him while he's eating his dinner! As long as he's chomping, I'm gently moving my hands around his legs and paws. Also suggested was to feed him by hand, but 'open' his mouth for him and stuff in food before he can do anything else, which I haven't tried yet. I've had to put a hold on it all for the moment as I've got a boarder in, and I won't stack up too many stresses for him at once. |
