Posted Image This is Olive. She is my little love. Olive is a 6 lb. toy fox terrier from a rescue in Atlanta, Georgia. She needed a very special home, and we were lucky enough to be it! Olive is five years old and she and Baci (see below) are the "ambassa-dogs" for the sanctuary. They go with me everywhere! Posted Image This is Baci, Olive's "little brother" (they are not really related). Baci is also a toy fox terrier and weighs only 3.5 lbs! He is named after the Italian Perugina chocolates - his name means "kisses" and he does! Baci was in a kill shelter and due for a date with the needle, but they called me instead. I don't know what I'd do without him and Olive. He is 2. Posted Image Here are a small group at the fence waiting for me to catch up and open the gate into the next field. Tulip the beagle, Olive, and Oberon and Skylar (rat terriers) are in this shot. Posted Image Here's Dan (hubby) and this is how he looks most nights! Olive is joined by Oberon, Skylar, & Metoo (Mimi) the rat terriers, and Rudy the Italian Greyhound. He's the blue and white fellow. Rudy is 15. His owner died and he was discovered in the house with her body. His former mama had dementia, so he has some odd quirks! Metoo the rat terrier is three years old. She originally came from a puppy mill breeder. As a result of her poor breeding, she has atopic dermatitis - she's allergic to just about everything. Her owners took her to the vet to be put to sleep because she was covered with raw sores from itching - much of her hair was missing. She was also undersocialized and was afraid of everyone. The vet techs decided to call me to see if I would give her one more chance. Today, she still gets so stressed that she can't handle strangers, but she has all of her hair, is completely healed, and is lovey-dovey with Dan and I. Posted Image This is me (Jodee) and Tulip the beagle, who is 15 years old. Tulip spent the first 14 years of her life without a name, as a breeder dog. When she could no longer produce puppies, her owner sent her into the wild. When the sherriff who picked her up tracked down the owner, he wouldn't claim her back. A very nice lady drove Tulip all the way from Iowa to us. Tulip had a broken spine, infected ears, tumors, underweight, etc. One year later, she is completely healed, runs and plays in the field, hunts her imaginary heffalumps, and playbows to invite fun and joy. She had never known pets, and now seeks them out constantly to make up for lost time. Posted Image This is Twiggy and she is 3. She is a poorly bred puppy mill toy fox terrier. She was to be euthanized at a kill shelter, but they called me instead. Lucky us! Posted Image This is Frisbee. He is a "Teddy Roosevelt" rat terrier and he is 11. His owner brought him in to the vet for his annual shots and at the last minute said, "awww, just put him to sleep!" The vet techs just couldn't do it and called me instead. He is a perfect gentleman and we love him, even with his congestive heart failure and loud voice! Posted Image These are "my boys". We've had them since they were six weeks old, and they will be 7 at the end of September. They are classic rat terriers (longer legs than Frisbee, button ears rather than upright. Mimi is also a classic rattie). The one with one eye patch is Skylar (Skye) and the cutie with the brown eyebrows is Oberon (Obie). Their breeder wasn't very good at her job, so Obie has genetic anxiety issues and Skye has a rather bad heart murmur. Whew! I'll post more to Photobucket when I can. In the meantime, if you'd like to see where they live, you are welcome to browse the album at http://s10.photobucket.com/albums/a106/cestmoijodee/ Enjoy, and thanks for looking! |

Thanks for posting such wonderful photos - and for the little history of each dog as well.Such sad lives many have lead - but all in the past now that they've discovered the sanctuary you and your husband provide them, lucky dogs indeed. |

Jodee I think most of us would love to do what you do because even though there must be frustrations from time to time, the rewards of watching a traumatised dog blossom must be so worthwhile. I also think there's no nicer sight to come home to that a loved one smothered in pets! |

Here's a few more pictures of the crew: Posted Image This is Sophia. She is an 11-year-old Italian Greyhound. She came to us from a family where the father died in an accident when the children were young. The mother bought the dog as a comfort for her children. Now the children are grown and the mom doesn't have any use for the dog. :x: She is a darling, but a bit naughty! Posted Image Here's another picture of Tulip the Beagle. Posted Image This is a better picture of Rudy, the Italian Greyhound. His story is in the first post. Posted Image This is Ruby, our other beagle. She is 11. She came to us from the same rescue that brought us Tulip. She has terminal cancer, so we are not sure how long she will be staying until it will be her time to go on to the bridge. Posted Image Christmas Elves. Posted Image This is Uncle Mort. He is an Italian Greyhound mix and is 13 years old. He came to us from animal control in Chicago. His owner died and he spent three days alone with the body before he was discovered. The owner's son turned Mort in to the animal control. Rescue volunteers delivered him to us. When he came, he only had three teeth left and they were hanging from his mouth. The jawbone had rotted away. We had his teeth pulled and he does very well on soaked kibble. He has a cute habit of sleeping with his tongue hanging out because he has no teeth to keep it in his mouth! Posted Image This is my favorite picture of Olive. Posted Image This is our retired "pasture potato" Zeke. He is 25 years old. Posted Image This is our token cat, Kieffer. He is 7 and keeps the mice out of Zeke's barn! Posted Image Here is Sadie. She is a rat terrier and is 15 years old. She is another case of where an owner died and the family didn't know what to do with her. She had many puppies in her past, and seems to think that Baci and Olive are her pups. Posted Image Dan and Olive. How I love that man! Hope you like the pictures of our little gang! |
