It's been 6 months since we got together & some behaviour needed to be addressed immediately; like crawling into peoples laps ( a 65 lb lap dog!) Thankfully thats over with! The latest milestone was reached a few days ago......the "down". I despaired of getting through to her but all of a sudden there she went... wagging her tail to beat the band.... :yay: now to have her do it with more distractions around....at least it's a start! Who says an old dog can't learn new tricks,I'm pretty proud of her! :) |

What is it with some dogs and the down?!?! Davey found it a total effrontary to his manhood - took years for him to see it as any different to a sit. Well done Strawboss and Maya of course! Can't believe it six months already. |

I've heard two opinions on this; one is that deep chested dogs find it awkward, the other & the one I favour is that any dog feels more vulnerable in that position so it's sitting for most. |

I tend to agree with you there, Davey just refused for at least 3 (yes I said 3) years! These days though he *can do a pretty passable impersionation of a BC going into a down! *Please note the stress on the can! |

The on leash aggression is becoming a thing of the past too, last night we met 3 other dogs all on leash....Maya had a "stance" to be sure & the tail didn't wag immediately, but she didn't go Ballistic 30 feet from them :yay: This morning on our walk she kept glancing back as if for reassurance or to pick up direction... wasn't too long ago she would just pull like an old plough horse with her head down. |
