Well what a day it's been. Went to the vets this morning to get the results from Freya's test. There may be some good news as the lab has come up with 3 possible causes for Frey's cough. The first is lungworm for which we have been given advocate (at £25 a box I certainly will look into getting a prescription for it and getting it online). As Frey is prone to eating slugs this may :crossedfingers: be the cause. The rep from the pharmaceutical company has told the vet that it is getting more common in our area (but then surely that is what a rep would say sorry being cynical), The vet also stressed that it was a rare condition. 2nd cause could be an allergy though he said that trying to find out what was causing an allergic reaction with her lungs would be difficult. We will look into that further when we go back in 2 weeks he wants to rule out the lungworm first. 3rd cause is what Glo had but because Frey hasn't got that crackling sound on her lungs he's really undecided whether or not she could be in the really early stages.   that it is not this. Just glad I didn't cancel their insurance and put the money into an account instead because there is no way there would have been enough money in. :phew: He has also reduced her steroids and hopefully she will be off them in a couple of weeks. He said that they are probably the reason that Freya has been so miserable and hopefully she should be back to her old self soon. Edited by westie mum, Nov 12 2008, 07:47 PM.

Oh my word what a mixture of possibilities.Lungworm certainly seems to be becoming more prevalent in UK.If it is this will there be long term implications at all? |

He doesn't seem to think there will be any problems long term as he seems to think the advocate will clear it and it may just be in the larva stage if it is lungworm. I really don't know what to the think. :help: Hopefully things will be clearer in 2 weeks.

Fingers crossed for Freya. I know that Lungworm is on the increase in South Wales but thankfully neither of mine have shown any interest in slugs/snails. As Claire says, it's going to be a long two weeks. |

Didn't post about Freya's last visit to the vets as there was no change BUT we've been back today and she's been given the all clear. :yippee: :hyper: . She has been off the steroids now for 4 weeks and she finished her Corvental on Wednesday. As there has been no significant coughing and she has just coughed occasionally they have put it down to a bout of bronchitus. Her lungs are clear and all seems to be well. They have just told me to keep an eye on her and take her back should her cough start again. So happy and couldn't wish for a better Christmas present. :yay: |
