Hi its been a while since i've been on as computer went kapoot. I'm taking harry , my bt to the vets on monday because he has a retained testicle and he is now 10 months old. I'm not sure what will happen and i just wondered if anybody had any experience with this. I had been planning to get him neutered anyway but was waiting till he was at least a year old, i think the vet may want to do it sooner if she wants to remove the retained 1 anyway which i would prefer ao it was all done in 1 op, but dont know if the vet wants to wait till he's a year old. Just wanted to know if anyone has been through this. Thanks.

I know three different dogs, all with retained testicles, all with different solutions. The first went down the normal route and got the dog neutured, the second dog had just the retained testicle removed which is much less common and third was left entire with his retained testicle! The last one is now 6 years old and in perfect health - actually all 3 are in perfect health.

I don't think it would worry me too much and would get him neutured when I originally planned but speak to your vet, it's something that they'll have seen quite a lot and will give you the best advice.

:ok: Thanks for the reply , good to know some have been in the same situation and its worked out well. To cap it all i think he may have kennel cough, need to get that checked aswell. It seems to be only in the morning or when he wakes up he makes the noise, like he's trying to clear his throat, i'll have a look on here for advice. Heard benylin's quite useful.

:ok: Thanks RR , he gets plenty of hugs around here anyway ,1 more won't hurt. Had his visit to the vet today, not kennel cough so thats good. She checked him over but there was no sign of his missing bits, lol. I've got him booked in for monday morning and he's getting castrated and they'll look for the other 1 while they're there. I know some people have different opinions on neutering but i would rather have peace of mind, i've looked into different things and at the end of the day it came down to personal choice, hopefully help towards him humping his beanbag, lol. :crossedfingers:

:) I finally had harry neutered in december, they had to search for his retained testicle and found it tucked up in his abdomen. Poor harry had three seperate incisions, thankfully after about 4 days he got back to normal. He's due back this week for a check up just to see how its affected him, weight and other stuff. I see a little bit of a difference but not much, of course no more mounting his beanbag amongst other things, lol. The vet said his hormones would still be all over the place for a month or so but settle down after that. I'. just glad he's still the harry i had in the first place, was worried it might change him. Will try to get some photo's loaded , when i remeber how, new comp and its a bit different to the old one, my excuse anyway and im sticking to it,lol. Lovin the latest photo's in the members album. Happy new year to all,x.

retained testicles are thought to be more prone to becoming cancerous so a lot of the time vets will recommend removing them just to be on the safe side. :ok:
