 hi and welcome

I'm pleased you're seeing a light at the end of the tunnel!

My George is a rescue patterdale too, he's about 3 years old though so a bit older. Luckily he was fully housetrained and settles really well in the house, I must admit I'm learning a lot from the advice given to you too :ok: , George has the run of the house, can have his toys when he wants them. but he is a really good dog inside the hosue, its when he gets outside he's a little :x: ! great on the lead but an absolute fiend for smells, rabbits and horses!

Good luck on your training classes, you'll really see the benefit! Sorry I don;t have any words of wisdom but thought words of encouragement might help too!

Hi all,
Thanks so much for your help and advice! You have no idea how it's put my mind at rest having this forum and such helpful and nice people.

We had a better night with Bob last night, put his bed into our bedroom and he was so good! Just had his bone and went to sleep. Took him on his usual long walk, then had playtime and then calmed him down before bedtime and that seemed to work. I think maybe we have been playing with him too much up until we go to bed and he hasn't the chance to calm down.
He didn't bark at 4am either - result!

I can kind of understand why he has been barking as we have a Yorkie one side, a westie the other side, and 2 Jack Russels out the back!!! He's obviously just curious.

Walked him on his short lead last night and every time he pulled we waited until the lead went slack and then we continued, he still pulled but less so.

It's a bit of a stuggle to get him in the kitchen if we go out for a short while, even with the lure of treats...but it's only been 3 weeks bless him.

Thank so much for your advice, it means a lot, oh, and I've uploads some photos!

Hi,

I can really relate to your problems. We have had our fell terrier from a pup but had previously always had collies and labs - what a shock to the system. As our border collie (now 10) had always slept with us in the bedroom in his bed, I thought it would be fine to have Charlie up with us. After about 3 weeks, my husband, who works shifts moved into the spare room as Charlie barked at anything and everything.

I then decided to buy a crate!! Oh salvation, it took a couple of nights but as long as we kept to the same routine and gave him his treats at bedtime in his crate and his toys, he was as good as gold. If he barks now, I always know there is something wrong eg thunder or fireworks. I leave the crate door open during the day and he will often take himself in there quite happily.

It does take time but once you have cracked it, its worth it. I love coming down in the morning and opening his door and see his little face and if its raining he just stays there lol

He is now 3 and I am still married and my husband is back in our bed lol

I wouldn't hesitate to use a crate again if I am fortunate enough to have another terrier in the future.

I do hope it works out for you

love

Ann, max and Charlie
