Hi everyone,
How fab is it to find this board! :yay:

Well, me and the other half, Mick adopted Bob the Patterdale from Newcastle Benton shelter nearly 3 weeks ago, and he's turned our lives upside down in a good way! :yikes:

Having previously owned 2 Ex-racing greyhounds, I decided to go for the opposite in temperament and looks! Also my house lends itself to having a smaller dog.

Greenside is about 5 miles west of Newcastle and not far from Corbridge and Hexham. And as the name suggests there are LOADS of fields and places to walk. It's an old lead mining village. Oh, and the local pub is very dog friendly with treats behind the bar etc!

Bob's background is slightly vague:
He was taken into the shelter by his owner, who said he could no longer care for him due to work commitments, but said he was house trained and just needed a bit of training on the lead  , anyway, Bob was then rehomed to a woman who brought him back to the shelter after just a week as apparently he kept escaping from her garden  and wanted to run off all the time. He'd only been back in the shelter for about 5 days when we saw him.

We took Bob for a walk around the quadrangle at the shelter and due to pulling on his collar and strangling himself, he kept being sick...a lot. We knew a harness would cure that, so we spent some time talking to him, and stroking him and that was it, we filled in the forms, paid the donation and brought him home, via Pets At Home for all of his stuff!

It's been an actioned packed 3 weeks, a transitional period of getting to know each other, and finding our feet/paws, but thanks to advice and patience we're getting there slowly. We've already taught Bob to sit for a treat and give him paw. He now thinks that if he sits and just waves his paw around in the air that he's going to get anything he wants!

So, that's it really so far - have posted some photos in the relevant section.

Starting beginners obedience on Monday (snow pending), so wish us luck as he's just wants to jump on other dogs! :crossedfingers:

I just want to thank everyone for the kind welcome and advice you have given me so far.

Rachel x

:welcome: Rachel and Bob!

I got George from the Clayton Road Dog and Cat Shelter bless em all! Some woman had taken him home too but brought him back saying he was too active for her, what does she expect from a terrier, eh??

maybe we could get together sometime and take them for a walk, like a doggy play date! I'm nearer to Durham but theres some lovely walks around here.
