As you know, Lucy Lu is my latest foster dog, a cute little black poodle cross of about 6 months and roughly the same size as Widget & Pixel. She is currently in season and began bleeding 6 days ago. Just now, for the second time in as many days, I have found her and Widget "locked". Properly - bums together, each facing in opposite directions. Obviously he's neutered and so I am not worried about her becoming pregnant but I was still quite shocked as I thought a full urge would disspitate with castration. Poor Lucy was whimpering and squealing every time he made the slightest movement and all I could do was try and keep him still until everything subsided. I guess I can keep them separate if need be but can anyone suggest anything? |

Just that - keep them seperate while she's in season, she's very young and could be injured by him. |

Thanks zandd- I've sorted things so Widget stays in the kitchen and the girls have the other ground floor rooms. We're homechecking people for her this week so she'll be on her way soon. There don't appear to be any physical repercussions from it in that she's as happy as ever - quite a relief. I never expected a neutered male to retain all of his natural urges - I'm always prepared for a bit of playful humping but didn't anticipate he'd go 'all the way'. |

Poor little girl. It could encourage her hormone's to phantom so it's probably something you should warn the potential homes about so they can prepare for all eventualities. Can I ask what makes you think she's a poodle x? I know I'm being a pain in the butt about this but everything about her screams Tibetan to me, it might be worth trying to verify with a breed bod and if so you might be able to track her down through KC regs. There's only going to be so many black TT bitches registered late spring/early summer. |

I sent photos to 2 TT breeders but neither responded unfortunately so I've just been going on what the people at the kennels thought. The undershot jaw doesn't help as it gives her an unnaturally monkey-ish face and it's really hard trying to imagine what she'd look like without it. I feel awful about this business with Widget. I never thought an unneutered male would still have those urges. Certainly his attentions toward Pixel have never gone anywhere so far. Will this affect her being spayed in 2-3 months? I can see no physical trauma but will it have caused her psychological damage? Is there anything I can do to help her? Edited to say Tafia: if you know of any Tibetan terrier breeders, by all means copy my photos and send them. Edited by piwoodhouse, Mar 31 2009, 12:32 AM.

TT's often have an undershot jaw which is another reason why I'm so sure she is. Of course it's practically impossible for anyone to say without putting hands on her but I'm willing to bet money that she's got pretty chunky hindlegs as well, I noticed on the Pro Dogs site that she's got SA so from my limited experience she's almost text book. Would you mind if I forwarded the photo's to the breed club? I've done a search trying to see if anyone's reported a lost TT but could find anything, know I'm being a pain in the a*** but I'd hate to think that there was someone out there looking for her. Most bitches experience some sort of False pregnancy symptoms which are slightly different to Phantom - but they generally bounce back brilliantly and ime, the first is easier to recover from. I would prepare the prospective homes that she might appear under the weather etc in two months time. Don't beat yourself up, we live and learn and you've done a wonderful thing by giving her a foster home. What I want to know is how Widget is feeling, after his fun - I'll bet he's not to happy being left in the kitchen! |

She may have enticed Widget - one of my mum's dogs came into season and I didn't think anything of taking Fred there - he's castrated - but she kept wiggling away at him and on he hopped. They didn't get as far as the tie as my mum and I spotted them. It's how we know she was leading him on! Unfortunately he's now got a bit of a humping habit . I think he liked it... It's only very mild so not a problem, but do watch Widget now. He's done it once, he may well want to do it again! My (castrated) Buster lived with five entire bitches for 2 years and never once showed any interest! |

Be my guest - the kennel staff knew she was "exotic" and spent time searching themselves and as they say themselves, the general public don't always know where to look for a lost pet. The police often give them the brush off and the Dog Wardens only work Monday to Friday. Also if she belonged to an elderly person in particular, they might not have internet access - can you imagine doing any kind of search nowadays without the web?! I checked on Doglost under the criteria of Shih Tzu cross, Poodle cross, Jack Russell cross and couldn't find anything that matched her at all. Incidentally, I put up extra photos on Dog pages in the Dog Chatter section, inviting suggestions as to what people thought she was. One person posted a picture of a similar dog which was a poodle yorkie cross but there were plenty of other guesses too. If you can Tafia, forward them sooner rather than later would you? She's having visitors on Thursday and there are three other families that have been shortlisted. If she does have family out there looking I'd want to get her back home asap plus I'd rather the people we have lined up didn't get to meet her. |

I emailed the Breed Rescue this afternoon (sorry I didn't wait for your permission but I thought you'd probably say yes!) - just checked me emails and not had a reply back. I see from Zandd's post that a breed bod has visited the thread and confirmed as much as they can from a photograph but kudo's to you Pam - even from your description and without even looking at the photographs - your description was brilliant - I immediately thought Tibetan. |

Well let's see what tomorrow brings. I meant to ask are Tibetan Terriers true terriers, then? She seems very chilled for a terrier and has made herself at home very quickly. |

No not terriers at all which is probably what mislead you in the first place. They were basically used for keeping the monks warm/companionship. Buddist Temples traditionally being in mountainous regions is the reason they've got really powerful hind legs ..... traditionally they were given as gifts and meant to bring good luck! |

She certainly looks higher at the back. And as I said before, this girl can jump! I always thought Tibetans were bigger though, more like bearded collies. |

No. There's a black TT (looks just like Lucy Lu) that's the same age as Boo here in the park. She's quite small for the breed and isn't much bigger than her Westie housemate but all the ones I've met have been smalled than my Welsh. |

i had a tibbie many years ago i bought her from a breeder called pat jones.she lived at cartmel overlooking the bay,i fell in love with tibbies as my friend had a kokonor tibby they bought and did a lot of winning with he was such a delightful character that i bought one too,she had a habit of smiling at you, a full on all teeth bared smile and i later found out that this was a tibby characteristic.looking at the pic she could be a tibby or a tibby cross i also know a few people with neutered males that still like to 'have fun' when bitches are in season. ;) Edited by roo roo, Mar 31 2009, 09:55 PM.
