I think I have decided to buy up a load of Proze Choice frozen raw food - all the chicken varieties that they do - and see how Archie does on that. I will cook up some small pieces of chicken to use as treats so things don't get too messy

If the chicken doesn't suit him I'll try the fish option... decided against that as a first choice as there is only one prepared bag of that where with the chicken they do mince, chunks, liver, necks etc.

Apparently the most common ptotein allergies in dogs is beef, eggs, wheat gluten and LAMB!!! :headbang:

I use Prize Choice (Tripe) and find it really good. Are you going to give anything with it? I'll be incredibly interested to hear how Archie get's on with it :crossedfingers: .

I'm not sure  Keith now says that he doesn't want the hassle of thawing and raw food hanging about  I'm having a look at the Nauture diet trays as well - there might be something along those lines that will also help. If not we'll do it my way for at least a trial of 6 weeks!

I'm not sure though whether I wuld need to add anything to it - veg or rice - as they could potentially be something he is allergic to... then again they feature in the Naturediet so it may not matter.

It's not a huge biggy thawing the food out. Do you have a garage? I just put it frozen straight into the dishes to thaw, in the summer it's put into the garden with one of those fly nets over the top until it's ready - you could put it in your garage.

Lots of people just feed meat and swear by it - I have to bulk it out for Davey's anal glands.

Rascal quite often gets two chicken wings for his dinner, straight from the freezer which he doesn't mind and makes him eat them slower and chew them better.

:ph43r: He has a terribly lazy mother, who also buys organic carrotts so she can just give him one straight from the fridge and not bother washing or peeling it. :D

The problem is we are usually out all day at work (Archie has an hour or more's company visit him at lunchtime) so really need something that is ready to feed when we get in. I'd like it not to take too long to eat so that he can have is walk an hour later then I get to sit down for my tea!

I fed Archie raw the other summer at weekends and he really enjoyed it but found we reverted to kibble in the week so I'd really need Keith's help on this. The space in the freezer has been taken up with fishing bait too

Can you tell I keep changing my mind over this? I might do a 6 week trial of the Naturediet fish, and if still no improvement Keith will be able to see the need to trial raw.

Once you get yourself into the habit of putting out the food to defrost either the night before or that morning it soon becomes automatic.

Change your mind as often as you like, I spent at least two years umming and ahhing before I made the plunge - like you I was put off by the logistics!

Eco Worrier

Beauty was on JWB fish, then on Burns fish and that suited her digestion really well - she didn't do poos before then, she did cowpats! impossible to clear up. Hopefully it will work for you too, otherwise naturediet is a really good food and what we use now. Hardly anything in that, and they do a fish variety. Very low in calorie and you can make treats out of it by cutting it up and baking it.
Quoting you again Eco Worrier :D Can you let me know how you bake your nature diet? I'd probably put it on at the wrong temperature and turn it to charcoal

I've been and bought all the ND Salmon/prawn brown rice & veg one (its recommended for exclusion diets) they had in Pets at Home (8 packs anyway!). Archie had a bit with his Wafcol and thought he had died and gone to heaven  he will eat anything!

I'll change him over onto this while we get the freezer space sorted out for raw. At least I can keep an eye on his ears and check whether the ND sets them off at meal times.

Poor Archie. One thought ius to write to JWB giving them the batch reference bumber on the bag of food you feel has been changed and ask them what has been added/removed to/from previous batches.

Also a tip - when I was feeding Widget a raw food diet I used those frozen packets of chicken etcv. The tripe one is whiffy, no doubt about it, so invest in a couple of plastic food containers to ensure the smell doesn't invade!

I've found an old takeaway tub which fits the Nature Diet perfectly :D

I don't want to count my chickens or anything, but he's been on the ND and nothing else since Saturday. He's had no more of the red ears after eating :crossedfingers: :yay: He has also been on stronger ear drops, but lets hope its also that the new food doesn't upset him.

Poor Archie. Henry had quite bad ears a few weeks ago, its cleared up now due to a small op, but it still irritates him now and again.

He is fed Arden Grange. Been fantastic on his skin. If you want me to send you a sample give me a shout xx

Archie's ear infecition is all gone - he's been on the ND for 2 weeks now. They don't go red anymore after eating but he's got 2 fresh hotspots on his back  not sure if this is his body getting rid of toxins / irritants (had reasd this sometimes happens) or whether the carrots in teh ND are upsetting him. Have restocked with the fish & potato ND (no carrot) so will give that a try!

Well I'd been dithering over changing Archie to raw - he must have guessed as he started turning his nose up at the white fish Nature Diet  he's never done that with food before! Its too soon to tell yet if its working as its only been a couple of days but at least he is enjoying his food! He's getting chicken (the freeflow mince is really convenient) and I'm going to hopefully try him on soem wings at the weekend. THe spoilt dog is also having cooked chicken for training treats!
