They are going - he had a malaseb bath yesterday and a week before so are pretty much gone. I just hope the chicken doesn't cause any reactions - :crossedfingers: |

Archie has got me pretty baffled :err: over the last week he's had some hot spots come up, with 2 more noticed today. He is also shaking his ears every so often so I can only assume chicken is one of his triggers? I'm also a bit concerned about his drinking - since Tuesday he has been drinking heavily, I'm not sure whether he finds the frozen blocks of chicken particularly salty but he has drunk so much in the last few days he is having trouble controlling his bladder :err: His wee is nice and pale so don't think there is infection (no gunk or redness on his boy bit either) so am just keeping an eye on it for the time being. It has coencided with the warm weather so that may have something to do with it... All in all he's not too cheerful at the moment! |

He's a total conundrum Claire. Poor lad, no one would want hot spots in this weather bless him. If he's still getting them it must be a indicator that his current diet isn't working - maybe it's time to brave the stinky tripe! Shouldn't think there would be any salt in the chicken at all, but both of my two have been needing extra water this week. |

I think I'll see if I can pick up some packs of turkey - most of the articles I've read list beef, pork, wheat, lamb and sometimes chicken as main allergens so will steer clear of those for now (tried chicken as it was the easy option). Turkey should be nearly as easy - at least its something I can cook to take on walks. Not sure I want to try that with tripe just yet! |

Oh Claire, just caght up on all this, what a nightmare you are going through! I would have said Naturediet too, Brandy has a very sensitive tummy and I feed her on this as its got nothing nasty in it, I also give her Feelwell probiotic as Naturediet does not contain pro biotic and it the only thing they advise as a aditional supplement if you do want to supplement it. it does say about itchy/dry skin as well as sensitive tummys I notice, I have found them brill for Brandy, I had a feeling she was allergic to Carrott which is in the lamb ND, may still swap her onto the fish ND after this pack, but since giving her these she hardly gets a bad belly now. http://www.feelwells.co.uk/ Shame you dont live nearer to me, my boyfriends parents own a huge pet shop which stock basically everything you have been talking about! Well we kept Archie on the chicken to give it the benefit of the doubt but his 2 hotspots haven't gone away (haven't got worse, but haven't cleared up). Just had to take him to the vets as he started scooting so he's had problems with his glands too! He's now got antibiotics too. We're off on holiday for a few days with no freezer so no raw meat on the menu - I've got some Turkey & Rabbit naturediet and will look at putting him on something else when we get back. I had made up my mind to try the raw turkey but am a bit concerned that as its so sloppy he'll just end up with blocked glands again :err: It might be the price to pay in the short term to find a meat that he will not actually react to! I will have to look out for some turkey bones I guess. |

Well thankfully Archie hasn't had a problem with his glands again. He has been on raw turkey with cooked turkey for treats for 5 weeks now and he still has hotspots :( He finished his course of antibiotics 4 weeks ago but has started on them again in the last week as I found more. Not sure if he has reacted to the turkey or whether there was a little bit of underlying infection left over from the chicken diet which I didn't spot and has flared up again. The raw diet isn't suiting him particularly - he loves it - but it does cause him to drink half a bowl of water after his dinner. I don't understand that! The vet has recommended Burns so we'll give that a go. I'm going to try the fish one - but if he is no better on that I won't really know if he is allergic to the fish or to the brown rice :err: I've got a couple of packs of turkey to finish off then will buy the Burns - stand by in another 6 weeks for an update  If he does no better on that apparently Purina does a prescription diet where the proteins have been denatured (similar to the hills one but Archie is never eating that again after what it did to his insides). Then we'll know if its a food allergy or not... |

Well, Archie has been on the Burns for 3 weeks and the hot spots he had have started to heal and no new ones have broken out :yay: He's managed that while being off the antibiotics too as he had to have his KC vaccine. The only thing causing me concern is one of his ear flares up each day - but that may be after he helps himself to blackberries during walks  He'll soon be in kennels in a controlled environment where hopefully blackberries aren't available so that will help with the trial! He's still getting weekly baths although he may have to skip this weeks as he has a poorly paw. :crossedfingers: :crossedfingers: :crossedfingers: |
