Stanley, Fell Terrier X Bedlington, 2 years old needs home! Posted Image History: We believe he was owned by an elderly couple who couldn't accept his excitable moments! Salient points: Attractive middle-sized terrier with non-moult coat. Loves people to the point that he gets excited when they arrive. Mixes well with dogs outside. Unassessed inside with other dogs. Advert: Stanley is a very good looking terrier who was homed with an elderly couple who were a little out of their depth with this 'working type' terrier. We have to say however, that in our books, Stanley is presenting as a calm terrier who is coping well in kennels and generally adored by all he meets. Stanley has been cared for and came to us neutered and in good health. He needs a groom which a volunteer has offered to do for us. He has a good nature, but obviously we are keen to ensure Stanley goes to his next family and, as his forever family, that they are able to enjoy his terrier nature and ways. What a lucky family that will be! We also happen to have his litter sister in our rescue. We have not cat tested and are not sure he would live with another dog(s) as he appears to have been an only dog. A sweetheart through and through. "Please note that this dog is currently in kennels and is also available for foster until a 'forever' home is found". Lovely, lovely Stanley.. had a lovely walk with Mac - then a rest, then another walk, then a rest, then another walk, then a Posted Image and again.. Posted Image and just for a change .. Posted Image We came to the conclusion that he was trying to have the longest walk of the day and "pretended" he was tired so he could stay out longer.. needless to say it was a very long and painful walk.. but we didn't mind one bit coz he's a lovely boy and we enjoyed his company. Clever boy this one  |

Unfortunately Stanley has come back to us as things didn't work out with his new girlfriend. We have re-written his ad ... here it is: Stanley, Fell Terrier x Bedlington, 4 years old Posted Image His Story: Stanley was owned by an older couple who obviously ‘babied’ him and weren’t able to cope with terrier ways. He spent 5 months in kennels before he came to us & a further 2 months with us then homed. Unfortunately his homing didn’t work out, but we have learnt so much about Stanley's needs. Salient points: Stanley gives an aloof air coupled with deep bonding which has led to 'separation anxiety'. Mixes well with dogs once he relaxes, but might have to test them out initially. Muzzled to enable initial introductions to go well in high dog density areas as with so many terriers. Needs terrier experienced home who can reassure yet stretch Stanley beyond his 'comfort zone' Advert: Stanley is a handsome 4 year old Fell (x Bedlington?)terrier with striking looks and a loving nature. We now know what we are looking for for Stanley. Everything for Stanley rests around his focused comfort zone "being with his ‘beloved’ person" ideally on the lap and having lovely walks. He needs a home where there is the balance of ‘companion pet' i.e. sleeps in the bedroom in his crate and living an ordinary relaxed life full of dog activites. Stanley suffers from separation anxiety which manifests in acute anxiety at being apart from his ‘special’ person so a constructive programme with multiple bonding encouraged to avoid the need for ‘weaning’ as he clings and claims his special person soon upon homing. Stanley needs to find his identity independent of merging it into others. Special boy with special needs. Could live with another or other tolerant dog companions as he is still working through the 'only dog' syndrome. He walks beautifully on the lead until he sees a dog or squirrel then he sparkles, but relaxes with confident management. Once his energy is flowing he relaxes into a cheerful chappie! Stanley has a tight non-moult coat which needs attention every 4-6 months. Stanley is neutered, chipped and vax'd. Easy to manage in kennels and good in a home. He mixes well with respectful visiting children and visitors in general. Would benefit from a home that understands his terrier nature and makes allowances for it so he can enjoy it also! Stanley is a super terrier. "Please note that this dog is currently in kennels and is also available for foster until a 'forever' home is found". Here is an update from one of our volunteer kennel walkers: "I had the real pleasure of taking Stanley out for a while today. He was a bit subdued and nervous to start with but that didn't last for long. He's very affectionate and loves being cuddled, squeezed, stroked and tickled. I think I spent a bit too much time doing this! He was very easy to walk on the lead and he stayed close by most of the time. We had lunch in the car and he did get very excited when we saw another dog getting out of a car next to us. We saw a few other dogs on the common but didn't actually meet any face to face. We saw 2 rabbits and loads of birds and he took no notice at all. I chatted with an elderly gentleman for a while and Stanley was happy to sit and wait until we'd finished. This dog has manners! I think Stanley seemed to become more confident the more we walked. It won't be long before that cheeky terrier comes out. It broke my heart when he kept standing at the kennel gate every time I went to leave :( After only knowing him for a few hours it's obvious to me that this little guy has so many good points - I have no doubt that some lucky people will find him soon". Another update from one of our volunteer kennel walkers ... Stan the Man was definitely a different dog from the one I took out last week. He was much more confident, interested in everything going on around him and he even pulled on the lead - just a bit. He also had quite few admirers today and enjoyed being made a fuss of. I love spending time with him - he's got such a lot to give. Posted Image I had trouble taking photos of Stan the Man today as he wouldn't keep still for long enough. I don't know how I managed to catch him winking! Lovely boy. Posted Image |

An update from Lynne who walked Stanley yesterday … “The picture I hesitated taking, but sums up a lot of our walk together! Posted Image Handsome dog you! Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Stanley had a lovely walk this afternoon. He, like Tia, ate a lot of grass, had a lot of smells, hardly any wees and didn't pull at all. We didn't meet any dogs. A really pleasant autumn afternoon at a leisurely pace”. |

An update from one of our volunteer kennel walkers ... "Stanley was a very happy chappy today. His tail never stopped wagging all the time we were walking. I think it was probably because he hasn't been out and about for a few days. He was a pleasure to walk as usual only more so today as he seemed to be smiling at us. It's always hard to leave him in his kennel. His turn must be coming up soon". Posted Image |

Stanley has been in foster for a while with Gustav, but came back to kennels today. Here is an update from his thread: "Well yes Stanley did make Gustav very very happy, but Gustav has gone and bucked the trend and landed himself a great job..so Stanley had to come back into kennels today. Gustav has done a great job with him..he has put on the weight he lost; presented beautifully clean and pampered! He proved himself to settle quite well when left just a little scratching on the door and found in "sleep mode" on the settee on return. He is exciteable around most dogs when meeting them outside and needs gentle controlled intros...London parks weren't the best environment as dog density is high. He loved his food and cuddles/ belly rubs/ and greeted visiting friends very well. He has acquired the label 'food thief' no casual meals left on coffee tables whilst you go and get the remote controls! Stanley spent most of today with me travelling to Gatwick S..waiting in the car A little car damage done in the hour he was left so best crated if you're car proud, which I have long since ceased to be! Had a lovely walked around the Devil's punchbowl where he saw a Labrador and was cool and calm; he shared my cheese sandwich which he delighted in. Stanley travelling as my companion..the lead is how I secure a terrier, to avoid them leaping out the car on arrival". Posted Image Our walk in the wet Posted Image Posted Image |

An update on Stanley from one of our volunteer kennel walkers: "Stanley had been doing too much 'boinging' in his kennel this morning and his paws were looking a bit sore. We had a long leisurely walk with lots of belly rubs. He's such a softy and really needs to be on somebody's lap right now. He's looking great with a bit more weight on him and especially smart in the RR bandana (thanks TinaD!!) We're going to walk Stanley with our 2 tomorrow - should be interesting! An update from one of our kennels walkers: "Well Stanley's paws were sore and bloody when we went to collect him on Saturday and he was struggling to walk, so we carried him to the car and brought him home to give him a bit of time to heal and to spend some time with Paddy (JRT) and Bella (GSD x) When we got home, he walked in, inspected the kitchen and lounge, followed closely by a bemused Paddy and Bella, and made himself at home on a mat. Not quite what I was expecting - it's usually a bit of a madhouse when we have visiting dogs! Over the last couple of days, Paddy has tried so hard to get Stanley to play with him, but Stanley wasn't having any of it. He even showed him how to steal a pair of socks - still no interest. Stanley much prefers to chill out, lounge about and sleep! He really didn't pay much attention to Paddy or Bella and Bella tried to pretend he wasn't there. Stanley is a sweet, cuddly, affectionate little man, with quite a stubborn streak. He does like to do what he wants to do so needs to know what's allowed and what's not. He pushes his way to the front for attention and food so we made a point of making him wait until last - he accepted this very well. He does respond to firm commands - first of all he puts on his 'soppy' face and when he doesn't get his own way, out comes the 'sulky' face, but he gets over it! Very crafty boy. He's a real pleasure to have around - he likes to be fussed, loves tummy tickles, would follow you everywhere if you'd let him, loves his food and loves human company. He really would make a loyal and devoted friend. We managed to put cream on his feet when he arrived but when we tried again later, there was no way he was going to let anyone touch his back feet - he told us in no uncertain terms. He did tell Paddy off a couple of times for going near his back feet too (and also for keep pestering him to play when he didn't want to!) We're about to take Stanley back now - his feet are a lot better and he's walking really well. The sad thing is, it's going to happen again as he really doesn't like being in kennels. I hope somebody takes him home soon, permanently"! Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image P'Are you coming out to play?' S 'Go away!' Posted Image |
