Twig has a habit of weeing in the morn, then not until about 9 hours later. She goes to work with will where she is put in a crate or tied up with Will as he works. During the day Will'll take her out at least once for a walk, she has NEVER wee'd in this time. Then as soon as she is home she is absolutly bursting for a wee and has one in the garden. The thing is if she is on a carpeted area or like yesterday in the shop :ermm: she has been known to wee as she's so desperate! Its become a bit of a problem, as its bad to hold it in and it means Will cant take his eyes off her if she isnt in a crate or tied up!! We want her to relieve herself in the day for her own sake, we dont mind her doing it in the garden but it cant be good for her! Any suggestions? |

Poor Twig, it sounds as though she thinks she's only meant to wee in the garden! Bless her heart, some dogs try so hard to please! When you take her out into the garden and she wee's, give it a word (say "busy" or something like that) and treat. Do it everyday until you know she associates the word with weeing. The thoery is that when she's having her toilet walks, you use the word and she understands that she's allowed to actually wee. Whatever you do, don't use "wee wee", I did it with Boo and it sounds totally stupid when other people are about! |

Is she on a lead with Will and not in the garden? Some dogs don't always understand they can pee while on a lead, so try leaving her lead on when she wees in the garden. Agree with weeing on command, but again she may not connect it with weeing on a lead. Otherwise is there a safe place for an offlead wee? |

We have used 'toilet' since she was a real baby and it hasnt really worked so far as we know. Wills shop is in the middle of a town, there is nowhere to let her off lead for a wee nearer than a 20 min walk, which he hasnt got 40 mins to get there and back :ermm: I will try the making her wee in the garden on a lead, and carry on the toilet thing, I dunno what else to do to, poor ickle Twig has really got the wrong end of the stick! |

i think this is a common thing with pups.i read something about it somewhere once(sorry im having a seniour moment!)if i remember rightly its something to do with only wanting to wee wen on safe territory ie home ground, cant remember why maybe something to do with attracting predators?anyway ive had a bitch like this too but she did grow out of it.if you want her to wee on command tickle her 'fairy' and she will get the idea  |

Is there any way one of you could take BOTH dogs to work? Then when Brandy is taken out for a wee, Twig might "twig"?!

LOL you lot! I will suggest that technique to WIll tonight, somehow I think his answer may be no :P As for taking Brandy, she comes to work with me, but I suppose Will could take her, but when we are out with Brands she hasnt ever wee'd on the lead, must be a lead related thing I think, took her out today on her own off lead and she did both! |
