Since pretty much March we have been crating Bob whenever we are out, this is after letting him have the run of the kitchen and him chewing so many things. He hates the cage - never wants to go in, but once he's in he's fine. Just lately (last 3 or 4 weeks) we have been letting him have the run of the house for 3-4 hours at a time while we have been out, and apart from chewing a couple of minor things (shoe inner soles and a loo roll), he's been great and seems to love being upstairs snoozing on the bed and being able to look out of the window. Strange as, when we first adopted him, he had the run of the kitchen and back hall and chewed everything  ! I just wondered if anyone had experienced this and if you have any thoughts! Is it just the fact that he's settled in or the fact he can see out of a window?! I thought they can get anxious if they have too much area to patrol! Thanks Rachel x |

Do whatever you find works best. I know my two spend hours v. happily sitting on the bed watching the cats in the alley opposite! |

I've never had a chewer, although I had a carpet destroyer once. He had a long break from being left alone because of his upset and I found that after a long time he could be left at home for short periods without worrying, and I sometimes wonder if they just get into a habit and not doing it for so long just breaks it. |

i know when we are out that razzle jumps up on the coffee table and then onto the window sill and sits there perched in the window watching the world go by.she barks at any dogs who have the temerity to walk past her house!(the reason we know is that in order to get onto the road to go to work in the morning we have to travel up the road then come back down to get onto the main road to the shop so as we drive past shes sat in the window)and we always wave and shout byeee razzle! |

Mine has never chewed anything she wasn't supposed too, but I do see the blinds in disarray upon coming home & the only way she can peek out is to climb on the sofa....which is forbidden & never done when I'm home so it's her little secret... bless her heart! |

   Reminded me of old Kim who used to like to lie on my Mum & Dad's bed. Whenever we came back from somewhere, we'd sneak around to my Mum & Dad's bedroom window and bang really hard, by the time we got into the kitchen she'd be sat there looking guilty!   |

She had a long face eh? ;) My Mom's Boston terrier Fanny wasn't allowed on the furniture either but would snooze away on the sofa....but once that door opened all that could be heard was the rattle of her nails on the linoleum & she would greet with an expression that was as pure as Prairie Snow! Little devil. |

Quick update: Bob has been a VERY good boy, run of the house yesterday and no one thing chewed or moved (apart from his toys and chews!). He was looking out of the window when we came in, as if you say "Oh hello! I've had a lovely time!" I know it's early days but hopefully it's a shape of things to come. :yay: |
