Gillie, 7 year old Lakeland needs home!

Posted Image

His Story: Show 'Lakeland' by breeding, owned by a lady who found his hypernature difficult to manage. Rehomed to live with another Lakie-again aspects of his behaviour proved too much with inadvertent bites.

Salient points: Good all round Lakeland with good manners, training and dog skills. 'Genetic 'hypersensitive' nature triggered in certain 'predictable' situations like visitors, fireworks or passerby needing management strategy.

Advert: Gillie is a 7 yrs old Lakeland Terrier, Pedigree KC registered from show lines. Oh how smart he is, in looks and intelligence. Delightful terrier nature, generally good with people and dogs. He moved homes at the end of March to share his life with another Lakie and it has been a successful homing. However, sadly Gillie has a hyperside to his make-up, 'highly strung'. If you've owned a Lakie you'll be aware when the adrenaline flows, they can get 'trapped' in the moment. Gillie is excitable and certain situations leave him difficult to manage e.g. visitors; passersby and thunder storms to name a few. These situations can lead to barking and if he gets very stressed i.e. fireworks he needs a planned strategy, restraint or sedation as he can bite 'inadvertently'.

Gillie needs a terrier family who can adore his cheekiness whilst managing the more quirky side to his nature. He needs time to settle and awareness so he isn't judged too harshly during this settling period. Gillie and his owner will need time to negotiate new routines and relate to each others expectations. An understanding that you manage a terrier, not train their innate nature out of them. Gillie would welcome living with another dog, particularly if they have a calming influence on his energies ... so perhaps not another terrier. Gillie will need to have respectful visiting children, but not to live with children or cats. Gillie has been neutered, vax'd, chipped. Gillie think 'Gielgud' an actor of genius, of dramatic persuasion who needs to be kept in touch with reality using calm, firm and reassuring owner. Lovely, Lovely Gillie, rejoice in his many talents, but be there for him, guide him and protect him from his own 'nature' when caught up in the moment.

Well poor Gillie wasn't doing well in kennels and so we pushed the boat out to get him out. Lyn has very kindly fostered him and placed him in with her pack and the pleasure is all hers .. he is the dog of her dreams

His paws were very sore coming out of kennels and he lost a lot of weight so a short pleasant walk in Marble Hill Park and then he came to meet Ted's new owners who VERY NEARLY offered Gillie a home as well! As you can see he made himself at home.

Now settling in with his 7 westie friends and Chleo and Jay in Lyn's pad in Leics. Gille is still looking for his forever home.

He looks absolutely lovely! Does he have to go somewhere south / midlands, or can I pass his details on if I meet anyone sadly terrierless in the NW?
