hello all
thanks for everyones advice about Eric and his biting it is stopping each day with him doing it less and less by us saying ouch and then walking away and not playing.
Plus have found great raw hyde chews which keeps him chewing for ages.

However I was just wondering how long a short walk is???
Quite a bizarre question but we've been told not to overwalk him, but not sure how long is too long?
He currently gets three little walks a day with each one being around half a mile, is this too little or too much?
Eric seems to want to keep waking, but I know this will overwork his muscles and joints that are still growing.
any ideas would be helpful? :crossedfingers:

(note to lady whose boyfriend works in crofts; I take Eric around spiceball first field in the park do you think this is about right? thanks emma)

:yay: glad to hear the biting is diminishing, well done all of you for nipping it in the bud very early.I've always thought time and activity levels were more important than actual distance.ITs are quite leggy compared to other Terriers so guess it will be different for them  but around 20 minutes of quiet - ha ha,he's a Terrier walking with maybe a few minutes mad activity at a time - 3 times a day? But I'm sure the IT folks will be able to help more.

The only guideline that I've come across is 5 minutes per month of the dogs life until they've stopped growing. But having said that, I think that's much more for the larger boned, slower maturing breeds.

All my pups did longer than that, but it was varied - walking mostly on grass with a little on tarmac, playing and having fun, meeting new dogs & people etc.

Sounds as though you guys are having lots of fun together!

At that age I do around 20 minutes twice a day, and hopefully the owners are doing the same before and after work. My walks consist of encouraging focus on me, rewarding toileting, teaching that when I stop, they stop, how to greet people and other dogs (although that can be very hit and miss depending on what the owners are doing) and rewarding loose lead walking (but not actively teaching it).

So poor dogs are expecting a lovely walk and they get a lecture instead. ;) But we do it with fun and games, toys and lots of love and cuddles!

A 20 minute walk that's just brisk walking is about a mile, but an 'educational walk' is more like half that distance.

When you say the first field in spiceball I assume you mean the one with the swings etc in? If so id say thats fine as long as you are doing what the others have said - limited tarmac work etc I'd say thats fine, good place for socialising too as there's usually loadsa other dogs! Will said u bought him in to the shop today....me jealous, not at all   :P
