Something my friend said at the weekend has also clicked - where i've just moved from the dogs slept in the garage (all carpeted not like a garage at all) and when i was getting ready for work Milo would go to his bed calm as calm. She thinks perhaps he needs a "safe zone" and hasn't got one at the new house. So yesterday and today i left the stairs door open and right enough when i was ready to leave for work he trotted upstairs to bed.
