Another newbie here.

We have a (are you ready for this?!!) JRTxBasenji named Bessie, and we just picked out our new JRT puppy on Wednesday, but as he's only 12 days old today, it'll be the end of October before we can bring him home.

Hopefully we will have thought of a good name for him by then!

Glad to be here  I'll post some pics when I figure out how.

Alison.

Hello :welcome: to Terrier Talk! How exciting to be getting your new pup - bet you can't wait  Bessie looks like she enjoys a cuddle - you'll have to tell us more about the Basenji influence as I haven't really met one of those before!

Thanks everyone :)

Bessie came to us out of the blue 3 years ago after our beloved 7 month old PRT puppy, Milhouse was killed.

At the time we were renting a place while we were shopping for out dream farm..the house was set over a quarter of a mile back from a very quiet country road, nestled on the very edge of 22,000 acres of State forest, so I never worried about traffic as Milhouse never went up to the road.

One horrible morning though, one of our handful of neighbours back there accidentally ran him over with his van in our shared driveway, right outside the house.

My husband and I have never really got over losing Milhouse.

3 days later, our landlady brought us Bessie, she was going to be taken to the pound the next day by someone from her church that didn't want her anymore.

She is a funny little thing, verrrry sweet, and a sucker for having her tummy scratched (as you can tell from the picture!)

You can also see in the picture the huge scar that runs along her tummy.

We had had her for only a few months when she became very, very ill...we rushed her 40 miles to the emergency vet at 3am, and it turned out she had got behind the couch, unravelled the edge of the carpet and eaten a lot of fibre, which had not only imapacted her stomach, but bound to her intestinal wall.

She had emergency surgery to remove it, then 3 days later, she dehised an intestinal sutre and very quickly developed a massive belly infection.

Another emergency surgery, 3 weeks in the doggie ICU and multiple blood transfusions later, she pulled through. even though the vets were very concerned about her chances.. severe peritonitis and part of her belly had become necrotic.

While she was living at the vet, she refused to eat for the staff for a while, so for over a week, I had to drive the 40 miles there and back 3 times a day to feed her myself.

She turned out to be a very expensive free doggie, but we love her to bits and she is worth it!

Jump to July this year, and it finally became apparant that Wilson, our darling 13 year old Greyhound had reached the point where putting him to sleep was the only option, we miss him terribly, and we were going to adopt another greyhound, but finally decided to get a Jack instead.

We have a foster greyhound right now, Monty, to fill the gap until sweet little puppy man can come home.

Phew..sorry to be long winded, but that's a little of our story.

:welcome: What lovely dogs! We all love pictures here - so keep them coming! My old Irish Terrier, Logan used to play with a basenji cross (not sure what the other parent was!) They used to box like March hares and make lots of noise

LOL! Bessie can definately make a lot of noise!

Before our greyhound Wilson died, Bess was always trying to get him to run with her, but he couldn't because of his arthritic hips, then we got our foster greyhound, Monty...Bess immediately tried to get him to run, clearly expecting the same results she got with Willy.

The look on her face when Monty cut loose was priceless..clearly a LOT more than she had bargained for :hyper:
