I can't believe that you're being charged a consultation fee on every visit. I though my vet was pretty mercenary but we only pay for consultation on the first visit, all follow ups are just prescription charges etc. Quite shocked by that. |

same here Tafia.when weve had any injuries my vets chaged for the initial consultation anything after that has been free or if i have had to get meds ive just been charged for them.seems a bit steep to be charging for all the bandaging surely this should be in the fee charged at the beginning?anyway hope our jacs can help.she knows what shes on about thats for sure. :ok: |

Thanks guys. I'm gonna ask for a breakdown of all my charges so far as i've written down a summary which has peeved me off even more. 1st visit - including xrays, bandaging etc = £226 (note i was quoted £186 but this went up after the xray - apparently there was a £30 for the bandaging etc!!) 2nd visit (2 days later - saw nurse) - rebandaging due to him chewing it off - charged £7.32 for the bitter spray 3rd visit - rebandaging (saw original vet) - no charge 4th visit - rebandaging (saw another vet) - charged £4.05 5th visit (24hrs after 4th visit) - due to bandage coming off completely - saw original vet - no charge (or so i thought as i was told on the 4th visit that if the bandage came off they'd redo it free of charge) 6th visit (today) - rebandaged by nurse - charged £27!! told this was £5 from 5th visit charge for metal splints breaking, plus £22 for today!! Does this seem consistent to you?? Yes Roo Roo Jac's advice helped and have pm'd her so hopefully she will be able to help further. Whilst i appreciate i don't get vet treatment for free i would at least like to have consistant charges etc and that's the most annoying thing. I've been upset all day (not helped by the fact that my friend had it confirmed today that she's had a miscarriage - it was their first child) and i'm not putting Milo through anymore stress. |

well she goes racing all over the country and she knows most of the good racing vets.if she doesnt one of her mates will who lives in that part of the country and will be able to recommend them.with something like this its better to go to someone who is experienced in this sort of thing as a normal vet can spend ages messing around cos he doesnt know what the problem is so tries by a process of elimination to sort it out.sighthound vets see these problems all the time, its part and parcel of their normal working day.dont worry youre in good hands, she will give you good advice. |

I'm H A P P Y, i'm H A P P Y, i know i am i'm sure i am i'm H A P P Y!!!! :yippee: :yippee: Just sitting down having a nice cuppa after .......................taking the dogs over the fields!!!! Its been a weird few days. After my row in the vets on Saturday we went back today to have his bandage changed. Only last night a light bulb went on in my head, and i started looking through all my photos of my dogs - and there it was, the answer i'd been waiting for, a picture of Milo taken when we had all the snow and guess what .................... his hock joint is slightly swollen!!! It'd been swollen all along i just never noticed it. Something in my head had been niggling away as when the xrays showed soft tissue swelling i said to myself "this may never go down" and oh how i should've listened. So i printed a couple of pics off and took them with me today. And the vet couldn't believe it, but it does answer the questions as to why nothing showed up in the xray, and it seems that he may have perhaps pulled a muscle, twisted his leg or something that then made the swelling worse. Yes ok we don't have all the answers as we still don't know why he's injured both legs in the same way but it meant that there was no point keeping him bandaged up so the bandage is off, she's happy with how the leg is looking now and i've already made enquiries about hydrotherapy and she's got the referral form to fill out. Plus i got him vaccinated today (was going to get all of them done anyway but the funds have run out but needed to get MIlo done for the hydrotherapy). I haven't stopped smiling. So we came home and went over the fields, if you could've seen him your heart would've felt heavy as mine did - i've got my happy boy back! Then i bought him home and gave him a foot spa  cos his toes were sweaty and smelly so i made up some bubble bath using johnson baby shampoo (what i always use on the dogs) and soaked his foot - he loved it! I've also got a full print out from the vets as i may contact their head office as, just as i thought, their charges i think are made up as they go along - i was charged £40 for his bandaging the night he had the xrays, nothing on another visit, £4 on another visit, then £22 on saturday! And as its my birthday on Friday i can now enjoy it how i wanted to ...................... we're going seaside!!!! Thank you so so much everyone for all your kind words and listening to me babble on the last couple of weeks x |

Great news that the bandage is off and Milo can have his walks again! To right you need to speak to head office - their pricing system is an absolute disgrace. There must be a code of ethics and this, I imagine, would be a breach of it. Dreadful. |

:yay: So glad Milo is enjoying his walks across the fields again and being spoilt with a doggy foot spa evening! :D Hope the hydrotherapy goes well and your boy is soon totally recovered. Your vets pricing seems totally crazy to me.... |
