Gladiator CAGE MATCHES!
January 9, 2013 EVO Games - 6:30 registration - Free admission

Posted Image

Game size: 20 points, Mangled Metal/Tooth and Claw rules*
Timed turns: 7 minute turns; one 5 minute extension per game
Deployment: Steamroller deployment rules
The Octagon: Gladiator pits will be set on the table. This functions like a Killbox (lose if out) starting at the end of the last player’s 3rd turn.
Scoring: Unlike a normal game, the goal here is to please the onlookers with violent displays, rather than just quick kills. Whoever has the most points at the end of the match wins!
Ending the game: The game ends when there is only one warcaster/warlock in play, or time is called.
Prize: Gladiator coin to the champion

* beast, jacks, casters only...colossals do not fit in the arena.

-------------
SCORING
-------------

Points are totalled in the following ways:

1 point scored:

- Performing a successful slam, arm/headlock, headbutt, or one- or two-handed throw
- Gaining an additional damage die from collisions with terrain or other models (i.e. slam a model into a wall)
- Gain an additional point if a model was killed through a collision (includes collateral damage)

Points are removed:

- The crowds mean nothing - Assassinate a warcaster/warlock in round 1: -3 pts
- This fool had to die - Assassinate a warcaster/warlock in round 2: -2 pts
- Why prolong the inevitable? - Assassinate a warcaster/warlock in round 3 or later: -1 pt
- Your style is weak - Destroy a model with a normal attack: -1pt
- COWARD!!!! - Your caster triggers Killbox win for opponent: -4pts

-------------
THE WHIM OF THE CROWD
-------------

Roll a 2d6 at the beginning of each round to see what the Crowd demands! Apply the effect to ALL players for that round.

2: Show Mercy!
If a player destroys an enemy warcaster or warlock, they suffer an additional -1 pt.

3: Kick them when they're down!
Weapons with the Open Fist ability gain Trash (additional die of damage against knocked down models)

4: Size counts!
You get +1 pt if your most expensive remaining warjack/warbeast destroys an enemy’s weakest remaining warjack/warbeast.

5: Clobberin’ time!
Friendly warjacks and warbeasts gain +2 to slam, headbutt, or one or two-handed throw damage rolls.

6: Hold him back!
Arm/headlock power attacks give an additional +1 pt.

7: The Crowd ROARS!
Your warcaster or warlock can forfeit his activation to pump up the crowd. Because of their cheering and support, ALL friendly warjacks/warbeasts do not spend focus or need to be forced for power attacks. They also receive +2 to slam, headbutt, one- or two-handed throws, and arm/headlock power attack and damage rolls.

8: Concussion!
Headbutt power attacks give +1 pt

9: Use the Chair!
A warjack or warbeast with the Open Fist ability receives a (*attack) Chair. This attack has a base POW of 5 and the Knockdown ability. +1pt

10: Get Him Outta Here!
Slams and throws move models an additional 2”.

11: The fans are loose!
Models slammed or thrown into the outer walls of the arena trigger a collapse, freeing d6 small based infantry models into the arena. Place models around the model hitting the wall. These are non-friendly, enemy models that charge the closest active models immediately (SPD 5, MAT 5, POW 8, gang, trash) then are removed from play.

12: Finish Him!
If a warcaster or warlock destroys an enemy warcaster or warlock, they receive +1 pt and do not suffer any caster kill point penalty.

I do not like planning ahead. I prefer the perfect move for the moment. The rest is up to my dice.

Unfortunately I won't get off work till 6:30 today, so I won't be able to make this =(. Ossrum was going to crack some heads with rhulic jacks. Have fun though, it sounds like a blast.

I'll probably drop by to say hi and check out the carnage.

Had a great time. The format was new and interesting. Thank you Apollo for setting this up, I am looking forward to more at Evo

That's some of the funniest crap I've pulled off in a while by going first and throwing Gorten at the top of Turn 1 26" up the field. Then I proceeded to get bronzebacked while under pmorg's feat (gorten has trouble moving out of that feat range, rofl, stupid slow ass dwarf). It was a blast and it sounds like it would make for a really fun multiplayer format because people wont be inclined to assassinate.

The moment you said multi-player, that light bulb went off in my head...might not even expand the arena. Crazy bloodbath of awesomeness!

It was fun, thanks Apollo. Even though my Khador kept getting slammed the second they walked into the arena.
Carry the battle to them. Don't let them bring it to you. Put them on the defensive and don't ever apologize for anything.

pmorg double bronzeback archidon beat my gorten double driller basher rockram, pmorgs feat makes it so you can't get points for a turn in this format while the bronzebacks kill everything. Also bronzebacks don't miss def 9 jacks and get free throws because of that lol.

I built my list as a multiplayer list, not knowing it was a 1v1 format, the rules sounded like multiplayer to me. Glad I did though cause gorten may not have been the best choice but he was fun as hell to play in this format.

Tobin's eHaley actually dominated the format for scoring, if it was purely by points, he nearly tripled the next highest scorer (even after a game with 0 points thanks to Hoff's kamikaze Gorten awesomeness).

Dude this format screamed of Skorne bullshit (why I didn't bother) nice to know you gave him a run for his money though.

Thought about running Rahn and his TK, Forcehammer slams, non charging shennanigans. but didn't wanna piss people off

Everyone brought their crazy broken, but assassinations burn you and that's why it's awesome. You really had to have a focused list to accomplish your goals and couldn't have success with anything roughshod.

I didn't see Skorne having any real benefit. Free slam with gladiator maybe, a turn of denial with pMorg, a chain attack from a Bronzeback if it gives up its initial power attack...decent. But then you had slick moves like David using create-a-wall spells behind opponent jacks so he can get the extra points on collisions. One Cygnar player brought Nemo to disrupt and keep jacks from being able to spend focus for power attacks, the other Cygnar player rebuked opponent models so they couldn't get special attacks off, Tobin was vicious and brought a hunter in...softened models up, TK'd them to assume the position then slammed for collision and kills. Massive points scored from him.

Mulg was there but had a hard time getting crit-slams off. Khador held their own and I was waiting to see a mule make an appearance for the massive scoring potential with crits...but no.

If we do this again I'm playing Bart with 3 mules lol. Good feat for this format and 6 chances at critic dev each turn.

I really expected to see that sort of mule list.

This is my favorite tourney to throw for new players. Learning the situations to apply power moves is critical and the game extends an extra turn or two when you punish assassinations.

I would have, but the rules state one and two handed throws, but the mule is just a throw, it doesn't say one or two handed, so I figured it didn't count. This is why I also thought that force hammer and the like didn't count.

pCaine would be kind've nasty in this format too, slamming everyone around with thunderstrike.
