Masters tournament at Area51
February 9 at 1pm; registration opens at 11:30
Steamroller 2013 Master scenarios and rules: http://privateerpress.com/files/Masters_2013_Rules.pdf
Deathclock timers
Players required to use three 50pt character restricted lists with the Divide and Conquer list variant.
$10 entry fee (all going to first/second/third place prize support)

This is the masters format used in many national tournaments. Give deep thought to your lists and bring your 'A' game because you'll need it against the brutal players we have in North Texas.

Deployment will be done separate to deathclock and I will drop the green flag to start each round.

Rounds will be dependent upon participants

Bring your phones/devices to use as deathclock timers. I will have iPhone chargers available for use. Recommended app for iPhones (free): iGameClock.

I encourage non-veteran players to give this a shot, but only if you have a BIG pair. Every victory should be a point of pride.

Dons curse stuck.
Did the curse earn me a beer too?
What does the card say?

"O Fish, are you constant to the old covenant?" "Ceterum autem censeo Carthaginem esse delendam"

I was semi-live posting on our Facebook page if you want to see photos.

David took out Nick with an eStryker assassination on Vyros (i think it was turn 2). Vyros got just a little too close and Stryker was able to maneuver through a couple light jacks to get the drop on him.

North Texas Warmachine MASTER: David H., $125 and first place privateer press coin
Second place: Nick L., $50 and second place pp coin
Third place: Alex L., $25 and third place pp coin (which he politely donated to another player)

Tournament doubled my expected tournout, great showing by our community and people played super hard for almost 12 hours. Had a great time running this, tired as hell and passing out on the couch, but feeling sated. Hope everyone had a blast and bigtime respect to the upper echelon of our Warmachine community...David, Nick and Alex.

This was tons of fun. second place in masters format with retribution makes me pretty happy. wish i hadn't burned my rahn list against rasheth after the fact, but you can't plan for everything.

Learned something shitty. because ret doesn't have much pathfinder, i have sort of a blind spot for it, and think nobody has a lot. runewood gave estryker the ability to charge his silly ass through 9" of rough terrain i thought i was pretty safe behind. herp a derp.

Final game was intense, and i knew it would come down to who fucks up first. crappy that it was me, but played perfectly, david. You rock.

pride of the night was rahn rocking a one hit-one model win against Alex's fiona at the top of turn 2. my poor stormfalls couldn't even deviate lucky, and the first force hammer finishes the game for me.

That beautiful gypsy hoodoo totally destroyed poor zach horse.

New resolution is to play many games against tourney cygnar. gotta figure them blue boys out.

Great games, all!

Shame work decided to happen tonight, but I made out like a bandit thanks to poor planning on management's part. Grats to the winners regardless.

T'was fun. Glad you put this all together Apollo.

Game 1: Randy's Jarl vs Gorten.
Odd game, came down to me getting the bead on Jarl. My left flank collapsed to his Truffalo, but his left flank collapsed to my Nyss and Gudrun. Gorten had to force the issue and a couple of guns later I took Jarl down, with Randy deciding to end it instead of forcing another turn.

Game 2: Joe's eDeneghra vs Fiona
This was an unfortunate game of the opponent not knowing Mercenary warcasters. I picked Fiona, knowing he had eDeneghra and that he had already played his eGaspy list. Nonokion Brand + Long Gunners = Dead eDeneghra.

Game 3: Nick's Rahn vs Fiona
Kind of a bad match up. Nick 1st turn maneuvered his Phoenix out to the front, which meant that I had to kill it or it was lights out. I made a wrong play of not using Pendrake's Bolas, followed by pEiryss disruptor shot, but my dice also betrayed me and let me roll really low damage. So my failure was Nick's game. I knew what was coming and failed to prevent it.

Game 4: (Finals) Dave's eHaley's Storm Tier list vs Ashlynn
Well, this taught the lesson that POW 12's can kill. Two Battle Engines and a Stormwall nearly wiped my army out. Tough game, I got myself suckered by my own Corbeau. At the end of it, I decided to do a what the hell...

And shot using Ashlynn against eHaley, which hit and dropped her to six health. I should have then attempted to drift a twister, since later my Mule managed to drift an AOE over eHaley as well. Stormwall finished Ashlynn.

Game 5: (For 3rd) James' eMakeda vs Gorten
A game of bad angles and vectors for James. Also a learning experience that if your opponent doesn't hear anything and you don't have tokens, it didn't happen. Like Enrage. This was easily my game which I won.

Bet tally:
Lost GG's to A51 player ranking - 1 round owed to Apollo
Nick placing 3rd or better - 1 round owed by Apollo, which I transferred to Nick.

Thanks again Apollo for running the tournament, it was a blast, also thanks for the wreck markers. Nick, thanks, you're right, it was going to be whoever made the first mistake, or it was going to be a melee slugfest. My summary is:

Round 1 - Jimmy's Reznik tier list with 4 Reckoners vs. eCaine. I managed to tie up all of his Reckoners with 4+ tough Boomhowlers and then managed to Black Oil one of my Boomhowlers to neuter 3 of the Reckoners. About the 4th turn I realized that Reznik was on a medium base and then just killed him with a Hunter, a couple Forgeguard, Holt, and one of his own Wracks after landing a Black Oil on him with Gorman. eCaine was sitting on full focus ready to finish him off, but never got the chance. One thing to note, Jimmy is an amazing painter, I took a closer look at all his stuff after the game, crazy good detail work.

Round 2 - Rob's eBaldur list vs. eStryker. He popped feat turn 2, so I slowly moved up since I didn't want to deal with the feat. Turn 3 he retaliated a little, but was out of position because I moved so slowly. I popped feat Turn 3 and scrapped half the army and the Precursor UA 1 shotted one of the Monoliths basically. Rowdy trampled to his caster and did some damage via transfers. After that I just started getting control points while having all his stuff tied up or killed, ended with scenario victory.

Round 3 - Evan's (the fake Hoffman) pButcher medium infantry spam vs. eHaley Storm Bringers. He thought he would be ok because I wasn't playing pHaley, but I quickly showed him the power of Time Bomb on clumped up, slow, medium based infantry. Eventually got a scenario victory on this one.

Round 4 - Probably my most fun round of the tourney was against Alex's Ashlynn list, he summarized it pretty well above. I thought it was pretty clever to shoot Corbeau to attempt to kill Ashlynn (she was camping at the time and was arm 19 so eleaps wouldn't have worked). I derped a little because I should've shot with Stormwall first since Corbeau eventually died to eleaps from the Striders. I put Haley on a hill, because that's probably the safest place she could've been and just had to hope he didn't roll boxcars on damage. He rolled pretty damn close, like a 6, 6, 3 I think or something silly, and even managed to deviate the Mule (which had its arm disabled thank God) and do some damage too. Stormwall finished her off with the pod next turn.

Round 5 - eStryker against Nick's pVyros list.We were both lamenting about choosing our lists and almost wanted to dice for it. We both chose melee armies which was going to be a slugfest, but Nick didn't realize that Runewood could give Darth Stryker pathfinder and after a Corbeau repositioning and spending 1 for velocity, I was able to charge Vyros with 6 focus left and Arcane shield on me. I took 2 free strikes from the Lancer type jacks that Ret has. 1 missed, the other didn't do any damage at dice minus 12. When I got there, I said screw it and rolled three dice for overcharge for the hell of it. Got +7 strength and took 11 damage. The charge attack left him with 4 boxes left and the next one finished him off at dice + 5.

Pretty happy this went off smoothly and that the finale was between you two. Awesome lists, you know your armies and play damn hard. I know David is a tough player and we've had three brutal matchups against each other. But as of Tuesday, I thought Nick was a new player so I was laughing when Alex put a bet on him...had no clue he'd been around for a while. Totally missed his rise as I dropped off the map Fall and most of Winter. That dude brings serious game with his Ret!

I guess a round by round would be roughly in order.

Round 1: Ossy V Xerxis, bottom of turn 2, xerx hid behind a shitload of shield wall infantry and 10" of rough terrain. took several shots, but knock down some infantry, knock down xerx, stormfalls.

Round 2: Vyros V Mortenebra. I really liked his morty list. it had 6 lights in it, threatened from every angle plausible. unfortunately lights are great at picking out 1 or 2 models and killing them well, and mass vengeance triggered almost every turn. 2-4 of those lights, and DJ all died during my maintenance phases. planned well against the feat that the a stalker couldn't both get around a building and then charge, it was 1/2" short, smaller margin than i was hoping, but it worked. unfortunately, took vyros 5 focus to kill the damn thing at mat 10, pow 14 WM. still don't know how that happened. grabbed a control point for destruction, sentinels charge morty.

Round 3: Rahn V Fiona
I lied, realize i did kill 2 models. Phoenix position was key, but he just couldn't hurt the damn thing. and he did choose lucky bow instead of bolas, which was wonderful. thrall warrior even rolled terribly to damage it. that was a lucky phoenix, but all it did was run. had to charge(!) with a stormfall archer, which actually worked out perfectly. i felt pretty good about that matchup, but i'm relieved i didn't have to slug it out and drop chain blasts forever.

Round 4 Rahn V Rasheth. poor rasheth ended up on a hill. sacced my phoenix to his infantry to keep his beasts away, with agonizer on the board, arc nodes aren't that great, anyway. rahn feat pops rasheth one in the chops, can't knock him down, but he's only def 12... 12 mages plow through all his fury.

Round 5 pVyros v Stryker. Described already. i had the board position (i think...?) he had the assassination. if he hadn't scrubbed me that turn, double vengeance would have made short work of the forgeguard, and an objective. the other side probably would have seen many more sentinels dead, though, but who knows. Daemon's whiffed on hellmouth. too, which makes me a sad panda. EStryker + Rowdy is such a damn boss. until i realized i couldn't slam rowdy over stryker, i thought i had a much better shot at it (and maybe the assassination, if i was lucky as hell) but that damn affinity is amazing. as always, stryker near a caster = death. should have sat at my own table edge. live and learn.

Nice revenge game against 'The other Hoffman', Hoffman. He's meaner with Khador than Skorne so take that win with pride. Evan has won the majority of my tourneys over the years and I was watching that matchup you guys had like it was a mini-finals. The dude is brutally good... the both of you are.
