As Cain shot out of the "lake", his wings spread and he glided down to a tree, latched on its' trunk doing a half circle. Seconds later he saw Lili running out from the "lake" too. "Is she even trying?"Cain thought, and was about to taunt her when he noticed her picking up speed. He smirked and kicked off from the tree towards the deep of the woods, leaving a slight shockwave behind that cracked the tree's trunk and broke a few branches. He didn't land on the ground.Instead,he moved kicking off of trees. He felt Lili following him close by,but still glanced how she was doing from time to time,a few times barely dodging a branch or a tree himself. Lili didn't seem to be exerting herself,so Cain kept increasing his speed constantly just to see how far he could push her. After all,he didn't know if her physical state had changed from those days when everything was better.
It wasn't long before the shadows started covering more and more around them. They were nearing the rift, but Cain didn't anticipate what happened next. The "shadows" had set up a different trap than usual and Cain did not like it one bit,but he just smirked in response.
-Brace yourself,girl!-Cain shouted as he stopped himself to a tree branch and kicked off, doing a back-flip and landing just a few steps away from Lili.-This...Will be interesting.
The scenery around them changed. The dark they stood in started it's change right from under their feet.Golden sand filled everything around and from it a rocky terrain emerged.Dark silhouettes moved around them, whispering something incoherently. Then they began gathering in one place, forming a larger body.Cain tried to shadow-walk a few steps just to be sure and he couldn't.The smirk on his face turned to a scowl.
-That's strong one,so it seems we'll be playing by his rules.Hope you know how to fight with that stick,girl.-Cain spoke, observed their surroundings and continued.-That thing will try to limit our powers as much as it can,so if you won't be able to take much of it,just stay outta my way and I'll deal with it.
That said,Cain didn't wait for Lili to responded. His fists shone in a white flame as he lunged towards the forming collosus, kicking of from the too still forming terrain to gain higher ground.
-Just don't think of directly attacking it!Your link to your powers wasn't the same from the second you got here!-Midway towards the thing he shouted to Lili.

A body slumped on the ground quickly dissolving into a sticky liquid.
-I'm not even going to start ranting on how many levels of disturbing this is.-Ash mumbled.
-Good,don't.-Trish retorted.-Better yet,clean that stuff up.
-What?Why me?!-Ash started opposing.
-Because you're in MY home and I have a crap load of guns.
Ash snorted in return.
-Like that's gonna-
-I'll set your car on fire, if you won't.
Ash's eyes widened and not a minute passed when he was cleaning the stuff from the floor. Then Joshua moved, freaking Ash out.He jumped away.
-Whatthef**k?!
Caleb leaned over the shivering body and turned it so they could see his face.
-No immediate facial changes.Seems to be the exact copy.-But with those words he felt the part of Joshua's shoulder Caleb had put his hand on cover in fur.
Caleb immediately pulled his hand away and cursed.
-Did...Did he just react to you?-Trish asked.-This is going to suck.Ash,stand by the door and windows.Whatever happens,we can't let him escape outside.

The scenery didn’t change all that much. Still a lake, still a forest. Lilian glanced at the figure in the tree that soon disappeared in the treetops and following his scent she kept close, yet never going faster than him. If he wanted to try her out, so be it, but she wasn’t in the mood for games. Though, when the darkness around them thickened and closed in, he stopped, signaling her to stop too. It was weird, standing so close to him, a little repulsing even. ”Brace yourself girl. This...Will be interesting.” Lilian took a slight step away from him, feeling a lot better with a little more private space and clenched the strange stick in her hand. Seriously, though, what was that creature thinking, giving her this? She was better off with her own nails and teeth. A small smirk curved her lips when she thrived in the thought of ripping someone apart with bare hands… Yet thoughts were soon completely taken by what was going on around.
The moment of complete darkness soon changed dramatically. A desert; such a contrast from where they just were. Nothingness that was the sky soon changed, forming and swirling around till it gathered all the shadow creatures and merged it into one solid mass of complete darkness, seemingly formless, yet having form. A demon of mind in the ‘flesh’. Lillian looked up slowly, each inch of it just eating up any light around, sucking on it till it was no more. She figured that it was probably because of that that this creature seemed so surreal. ” That's strong one, so it seems we'll be playing by his rules. Hope you know how to fight with that stick, girl.”
Seriously, she didn’t know what insulted her more, the fact she was dragged into this mess to help him fight some s**t in his perfect little world of spirits, or the fact that he anticipated she didn’t know how to fight being the bearer of thousands of years of knowledge. Yet, she only took a slow breath in, thinking that she should be thankful that he was at least trying to help her, whatever gain he would have from this, it must be worth spending time with someone as unfitting for his company as her. That thing will try to limit our powers as much as it can, so if you won't be able to take much of it, just stay outta my way and I'll deal with it. oh, what pride. The smile on her face grew more as she gazed up to the strong features of his profile. Somehow that sounded less irritating and insulting that in should have been, yet, that was his way of talking to everyone, who was she to tell him how to live when she didn’t even know how to deal with the powers she was given. Either way, he was best at what he did, and that was worth the respect he was getting from his friends or foes.
Lillian looked back up at the creature, mouth slightly open for a reply and suddenly something shone to her left. Her eyes were barely able to look down when he just flew forward at the creature, hands in flames of divine magic. She lingered like that for a moment, eyes slightly widened from the sudden change, yet she only sighed, slowly stepping forward and observing the surroundings, quickly analyzing the territory before her eyes fixed fully upon the creature ” Just don't think of directly attacking it! Your link to your powers wasn't the same from the second you got here!” oh for heaven’s sake, did he really think she was that stupid? “Thank you captain obvious, I didn’t notice that I don't have my scythe!” she shouted back a little bitterly, quickly gaining speed as she started to circle the creature, wondering what weakness it could have.

Cain constantly scanned every inch of the shadow as he approached it. The changing terrain was also a problem, as the emerging pillars and hills didn't have a pattern, so dividing attention between that, the enemy and Lili was somewhat irritating, if not unexpected. Suddenly, the shadow changed it's pose and something akin to a fist flew straight at Cain. Before concentrating completely on evading the attack, Cain noticed two weak red lights coming from where the eyes should be. "Weak points? Why did it choose to have those?" Cain thought as he dodged the attack by a few centimetres. A gust of wind caused by the huge mass pushed him further making Cain look for a surface to kick off from. As his feat landed on an emerging column of rock, he threw his gaze at Lili. She seemed to be flanking the thing in hopes of finding a weakness. "The eyes are obviously a trap." He thought, thus immediately deciding against pointing those out to Lili. Another fist flew straight at him, which he managed to dodge again, this time quicker. It's mass engulfed the stone pillar and the wind shattered it instead. "As expected." Cain thought as he threw a glance behind him, before turning back at the shadow's "eyes". The closer he got to the target, the faster the thing seemed to move. Due to this, Cain had to concentrate on only moving forward and evading, and hope that Lili's not getting crushed or attacked by smaller shadows. Good for him he noticed that the pillars were ending. He kicked from atop the last one with such strength, that it shattered to the middle. Cain flew with enough speed, and thanks to the wings, enough pliancy to reach the required height unscathed. He could now make a clean shot.
-Bullseye! - Cain exclaimed, as he punched.
A beam of light pierced the shadow's head. As the dark colossus staggered, Cain tried to hit the other "eye", but realised he couldn't move. Swirling appendages had latched on to his right.
-Son of a b***h. - Cain grumbled as he was pulled inside of the shadow itself.

Joshua had already gotten back to his senses, though not fully in control of his body. He felt as if he burned from inside, the only thought racing through his mind was a question "what had gone wrong?" He remembered every one of his "division", an uncomfortable side effect of the cloning gene implementation, but never was it like this. It's like his body was changing, every muscle tearing, shifting and restitching amidst the flames.
Caleb looked at Trish.
-You know this will probably end up with your place getting trashed.
-Yeah,again.-Trish mumbled.-Lets just focus on subduing him.
Ash stood in front of the door like a goalkeeper during a soccer game, constantly shifting from one leg to another. His eyes obviously expressed what he was thinking. "Oh s**t, oh s**t, oh s**t, oh s**t, oh s**t..."

Red eyes were focused on not bumping into rising pillars of concrete, glancing and scanning the creature over as much as she could, her small body fortunately able to squeeze through small openings, even though the stick irritated a lot while moving. She thought that claws and teeth are of better use to rip and destroy than a stick, but somewhere deep it kept buzzing of a meaning to all this.

Small feet ran on the sand silently, soon reaching high speeds and... Completely losing Cain out of vision. Certainly he should be flying about making as much noise and special effects as possible by now. Lilian felt her heart skip a beat, chest getting heavier. He disappeared? Eaten? Her pace slowed down a little out of fear, seeing small shadows run at her and she flanked, running off farther. Or was this just some stupid test he put her through? Slender brows furrowed as her face slowly became a grimace of hate and irritation. No way in hell will she play his games, just because he dragged her into some stupid dreamworld of his where he was king and she had no power.

Suddenly instead of continuing to circle, the small figure ran towards the creature, using the stick to kick off of the ground, the black dress flaring and making a horrible noise as she flew up and towards the 'head' of it, screaming like a wild animal and put all the strength into her swing of the stick, aiming to get the head off as if it was a baseball. Well, she thought, I at least tried.

Cain floated in a sea of darkness, like some pond of tar.He was waiting."God damn it,girl.Stop being useless and hit the damn th-!" The substance surrounding him shifted, the colossus was wobbling.A light, like a star close by,shone above Cain."'Bout god damn time."-He thought with a smile.-"She may actually do better with her scythe than I thought.OK,time to do my thing." Another light shone from a different source. It was from Cain. The light surround him like an outline of his body as he curled into a ball and quickly stretched out, sending a shockwave that blasted the colossus' head apart.Time slowed down as Cain looked the humongous monster down, hoping for it to grow his head back. But it didn't happen. On the contrary,it started falling apart.First it's legs caved in.It brought the whole body tumbling down. All that was left were little shadows. Some of them disappeared immediately, others lingered for awhile, but not long.Cain decided to wait it out.Until a second later."Lili can't fly!"-His eyes widened as he lunged towards her and grabbed her by the wrist.
-Stop squirming.I don't care,if it hurts.-He flew further from the impact zone below them before starting to lessen the altitude.
A minute later they were far away from the few shadows that were left.Cain looked back at that place, turned around and started walking forward. As he passed Lili,he spoke:
-Don't waste your time in those situations or it'll bite you in the ass.-One step,a sigh.-Good job, none the less. This might actually have good results.
That was all she'd get from him.The darkness should soon recede."SHOULD" being the key word here.Knowing how little in control he actually was of this place, especially now, when the two artefacts resonated. For all they knew,a rift might open beneath them this instant.Hell, another of those shadow giants or two could appear."We'd be royally screwed then." Cain walked contemplating all the possible scenarios, but they were lucky. The darkness did recede and they soon stepped into a forest again. As it usually goes here,it appeared out of nowhere, just as lush and with trees towering into the sky as before.
And they made good time,as it seemed, since it was the edge of it.The rift could be seen in the distance. It was still some way to there, but it was just a far stretching plain with tall grass.Cain hastened his steps, but stopped as soon as he came out of the forest. He turned his head to a tree on his left.It was a huge, wide oak.It seemed almost primal and not like the other trees. It was as if the oak didn't tower towards the skies,it pierced them. Cain's left hand landed and slid down it's trunk, his right clenching into a fist.
-You better be right about this,Rook.-Cain said quietly, but Lili should have had definitely heard that.
Cain didn't give a damn about that.He needed to speak to the other Cain,to the old one,to whatever was left of him."We're coming in,Cain.Me and Rook,we're coming in and there's no shit you can do about it."

The girl blinked in confusion when everything exploded and stared at the look-at-me-I'm-so-awesome guy in the middle of it, making a spectacle out of things as always. "Geez, I forgot what a show off he was..." she mumbled, feeling how she started falling down. That, in spite of everything, didn't bother her one bit as she moved her body gracefully, controlling her fall. She was a vampire, there was no way she could splatter into the ground so easily, but, it wouldn't be Cain if he didn't screw something up.

She felt the rough hand grab her tiny wrist, squeaking a little when she was dragged, her expression going from confused into and irritated pout, squirming a little to try and get out but only got a "Stop squirming.I don't care,if it hurts." to her ears. "Uncivilized monkey..." she mumbled silently into the blowing wind, her voice muffled and flying away into another direction. They landed farther from the recent combat, Cain placing her down and walking past, saying something that Lili didn't regard at all, since mostly they were just rude comments or lame jokes. Cain's words weren't of any authority to her, though pride worked on the subconscious level where she knew she would try her best next time, smiling a little at the praise. Cain was the worst teacher ever, but that was probably a good thing.

They were soon inside a forest again, where Lili didn't feel at home at all. Cities, tall towers and deep caves in mountains were her home. Forests made her feel really uncomfortable and out of place and this one felt even more like a living and breathing being than others. Something about it was just pulsing, slowly, like the heart of the earth that she stood on. It somehow was natural to see Cain speak to a huge old tree that held the sky above their heads. Reminded her of some kind of pagan ritual, reaching off to the ancient spirits... Her eyes, though, were locked to the distance. She felt a longing, like she always did with their 'father', when she was near to connecting with him directly. But, she was a cowardly little mouse and instead of facing and embracing her destiny, she just ran away and slept. For a hundred years...

The girl looked over at Cain again, the blood red eyes shining a little in the light as she turned her head before turning away and beginning her walk into the rift. Slowly her hands crossed to hug herself, slouching a little and slowing down step by step, staring at the rift like it was a portal to her funeral. And it certainly felt like if she stepped in there, if she faced Cain finally like a good little girl, it would be the end of her as she was now.

Cain felt Lili's hesitation, and could understand it perfectly. After all, he wasn't a single entity anymore himself. His essence has been changed, shifted, distorted and merged with other souls inhabiting this plane. And the same thing could happen to Lili, if he wouldn't provide guidance. He knew, that the Scythe functioned quite differently from the Sword, but no one said it would be a walk in a park. Voices were swirling in Cain's mind, but only two were prominent: his and Rook's. "Are you sure we'll find anything of Him there?" Cain's voice resounded. "Yes." Rook answered. "Not too reassuring, Rook. You know very well whatever's there will be very different from what you knew." Cain continued. "Yes, probably." Cain sighed and turned slightly towards Lili. As he spoke to her, a white shroud floated from one corner of his eyes to the other for a nanosecond and his scowl disappeared for those few sentences:
-Do not hesitate. Be assured, we will not let you lose yourself there.-He turned away and started walking towards the rift.-You must go through this, for the sword-bearer is not enough.
Cain grunted and rubbed his eyes. "Do NOT ever do that again, Rook. And you do realize she'll lose at least a small part of herself there?" Cain's grumbling thought resounded. "Yes. We must make sure it's as small a part as possible, unless she wishes otherwise." Rook answered. "We'll see. One does not simply stroll through such valleys." Cain thought.

Joshua went into a frenzy, as his flesh and blood took the form it had hidden from him all this time. Caleb was there to counter him, but Joshua's change was too fast for Caleb to do his own yet. Trish jumped, kicked off from the ceiling and was about to knee-cap Joshua in the back of his head. This distracted Caleb.
-No! - He shouted out, but it was too late.
The huge black wolf demon that was now Joshua pushed Caleb away, turned round snatching Trish by the leg and with another turn sending her flying through the room. As Joshua turned to charge his next victim, a golden lion demon knocked him to the ground. Black fumes were swirling around the lion demon's claws. Those fumes soon formed a veil around Joshua's eyes. The beast began flinging himself and waving his claws in all directions. A huge gust of wind went through the whole room. In a second, everything was turned over, except for the bodies of Cain and Lili. A small dome of interconnected blades appeared over them, protecting from the wind. Caleb managed to resist and got just slightly pushed aback, Joshua was on the ground yet again and Trish was already against a wall. Once the gust ended, she pushed herself up, getting into a stationary pose and jumped on Joshua, potent sedative in pill form already in her left hand. Her jackboot pressed Joshua's jaw to the ground, her right hand dug into the upper teeth, keeping the mouth open as she stuffed the pill down Joshua's throat. She immediately turned her arms to wrap around and hold Joshua's mouth shut. Caleb was soon there to hold the claws too. The pill slid down into the digestive tract, dispersing into the blood quickly. Joshua started turning back to his human form a few seconds later.
-You guys alright? - Ash asked.
Trish charged toward him, her fists clenched.
-I will murder you!
Ash dodged her and started running over the scattered furniture.
-H-hey! What did I do?
-What did you DO?!- Trish shouted, chasing after him.
This game of "catch" trailed off through the house, fragile things flying into walls from time to time. Caleb just stood there from that moment. He hadn't turned back for awhile after Joshua did. He did so only after a few minutes. Trish was still trying to beat the snot out of Ash. Caleb got the couch into a usable position and laid Joshua's unconscious body on it again. "And our curse takes another one." The thought trailed off in his head between the constant curses from Trish.

Little by little the city was dieing. The sun was coming up and the sound of creaking metal and clicking echoed loudly through the cave. The lid of the city closed and everything darkened even more, only the few artificial lights left, buzzing over the heads of two vampires. Both were silent as grave, their bodies felt weak and tired. Silence spread over them, the only sound being a few cyborgs passing by, breaking the long silence in two and disappearing into the distance of underground skyscrapers.

A trail of smoke rose above Daray's head, clouding his scarred face in a white fog, which made his artificial eye stand out more with it's small flickering lights. His breath moved the long black hair as he sat silently and practically unmoving on the cold pavement. They were waiting for a few hours now and finally his patience wore off.

"Where is that fucking bastard?..." he mumbled, his irritated metallic voice breaking the silence.

"On his way." Damien answered in a whisper, as if afraid that someone might hear.

After a few more moments of silence they heard steps moving their way. Heavy and burdened they were, as if the person walking had a weight of the whole world on his shoulders. Soon enough, the missing one appeared from behind a corner, looking the two vampires over with a sad gaze, his hair messed up from running.

"Who were you running from..?" Daray asked as he stood up, dropping what was left of the cigarette to smolder on the ground.

Lucifus didn't answer, he only sighed and looked away. A gesture that only meant he didn't want to talk about it. Daray stared at him for a moment and quickly changed the topic.

"Well, we got entrance. Let's go?" he asked, already eager to move.

Lucifus nodded silently and turned to walk, Daray following after him. Damien smirked to himself a little, leaning away from the wall that held his lean figure for this whole time and followed in a light step, the smirk disappearing, but a light glimmer of mischief left in his yellow eyes, gaining on the others soon enough.

"This should be fun..." he mumbled to himself happily.

Daray caught the sound of his voice and glanced back at him, raising a brow and staring at the artificial vampire suspiceously for a moment, but only saw the same uninterested expression and discarded this as his own immagination, shaking his head silently and quickening his step.

--

The girl slowly raised her brow, red eyes glimmering for a small moment. The words sounded weird, coming from those lips, ones that never ceised to drop curses and insult at others. As if it wasn't him speaking.

For a moment she saw a man standing in front of her, the same Cain, but different. A mountain that could protect and shield from harm, a guardian angel that would give the last blood for his loved ones. Her heart skipped and she quickly turned away before Cain regained himself, mixed emotions making her nervous and fearful like a small mouse. She felt completely helpless. At least she knew she didn't hate him less, and that was kind of reassuring. Besides, there were other, more important things to focus on right now.

The veil was a thick black wall, waving and shimmering from time to time, like a pond full of black water. The demon forms that moved here and tried to get in... Oh, they were no match for the power she felt from the inside. She could almost swear it was mocking and playing with them, a thing that had no fear of death. And they were to walk inside? Oh...

If Cain said anything, she didn't listen, she was already led and lured inside. A small child, helpless. What could she do against the First? What could he possibly feel for her? Pity? She felt like a falure, a useless worm, a broken vase that couldn't even be a proper vessel. A coward, a leech, a disgrace...

"USELESS! USELESS! USELESS!" voices screamed at her, flickering figures of light disappearing back into darkness as she screeched to make them go away.

She disappeared, embraced by darkness as she cried, slender white fingers petting her raven black hair, holding her close to the cold body, hushing silently. Slowly she opened her eyes, as naive as she ever was, looking up at the face she feared and loved most from the moment she awoke into darkness. His voice was as silk as his black hair, movements as smooth as his words, red eyes - bright red rubies. He was beautiful, perfect, powerful and... Merciless. She could feel it, in the way he touched her, so intimately, yet so cold and selfish.

"My child..." he whispered, pressing his cold marble lips gently to her forehead "Do you bring guests to my humble home tonight?..." he asked silenly, pressing her closer, claimingly, and she could but squeak silently, closing her eyes to the darkness that was around them, only two chairs appearing in all of the inpenetrable darkness, no lightsource here, no shadows, only the black abyss.

--

Lucifus was the first one to notice the unnaturals in the facility were on the higher level. Three passcards they had were of the elite group of mercenaries, well known to the public, or more precisely - the willing and able to pay the right price. It didn't take long to get to one of the higher-ups here and actually find out. In fact, they met their long-distance acquaintance.

"You three... You are making my old bones crack. Lucifus, the romantic little bastard of the clan that let all hell loose!... What the /hell/ could make you get your ass out of space?!" a tall vampire asked, small horns on his head indicating his addiction.

Ezekiel was amused, obviously, to see one of the leaders of the 7th moon just striding into SerCo as if on a daily basis with none other than the guy the mercenaries were after and apparently failed. Daray liked him no more than one would like a piece of dog shit.

"Tea, coffee...?" he asked, everyone was silent for a long moment, Ezekiel staring at them for a long moment with a wicked mischevous smile on his face.

He finally turned his gaze to Damien, who, for everyone's surprise, stood up and walked over to him, smiling that creepy smile of his. "Here." he said, simply giving him the microchip. Ezekiel's face changed for a moment, curiously staring at it and rolling it around between his fingers before slowly starting to laugh.

Lucifus stared at him, confused, and Daray just sighed.

"We came here for nothing..." he mumbled.

Lucifus got even more confused, his gaze running from Ezekiel to Daray and back.

"What..?" he asked, totally lost.

Ezekiel stopped, still snickering a little and simply jumped on the demon, startling him completely, making Lucifus stare up at him angrily.

"Oh, no fear, I'm just being a little tiny show-off..." he said, sitting on his lap quite casually. Lucifus felt no less than completely awkward at this point. "This..." he continued, putting the chip in front of Lu's nose "is completely and utterly fake. I don't even know who and why would go through the trouble of making something like this. It takes a hell of a loooot of time to jabber a demon soul into metal. And not to mention resources... Question is..." he finally got off, plopping down on a soft sofa "Who the hell wanted you out of the spaceship so bad they actually would..." he said "Or what kind of connection you have to that spaceship crash... And why were you there at that moment?..." he asked after, grinning "What happened there Lu'?" he asked, coming closer again nervously and all too curious, leaning over, their noses almost touching.

Lucifus' patience broke and he pushed him off, standing up, silently pitching the bridge of his nose and sighed.

"So... Wait, all this... This was all for nothing?" he asked and simply punched the dream-stalker in the face.

Damien snorted silently

"Better?" he asked, already opening the door for him.

"Much." Lucifus answered, going out through the door angrily.

They stood there observing the black abyss swallow Lili. Once she disappeared Cain's body shifted. It became translucent and small swirls dotted it soon after. Out of the swirls body parts started emerging, forming the rest of their bodies as they stretched. A few moments later there stood five different people: Cain in the middle, Rook and Christine to his right, and Yoto and Izyan to his left.
Yoto, a man of obvious Asian descent and not higher than Cain's shoulders, spoke first:
-We're not going in there. Please tell me we're not going in there. - His voice resounded with a nervous tone.
Izyan looked at Yoto with still eyes, his sun-scorched face not making a twitch.
-You know we must, Yoto. We must guide her while she's in the presence of the first for we must not let her lose herself.
-"WE"? - Yoto's pitch shot up. - WE are going to be as defenseless as a newborn the-
-Will you both shut up?! - Cain interrupted. - How empty is your head, Yoto? You know well enough the role of the scythe.
-He is right. - A strongly feminine voice followed, every word pronounced clearly as a raindrop. - Yet I must ask, why have we appeared beside the two of you?
-Every spirit follows us, whether willingly or not. - Rook's stern voice answered. - Yet others would brake under the pressure of the rift and are unable to manifest themselves as clearly.
-How much influence would we have in the material world? - Christine's voice carried a slight drop of poison everyone knew all too well.
-I will erase you from existence if you touch my essence with those slutty, greedy fingers of yours, Christine. As anyone else, for that matter. - Cain cut of any intent of trying to imply his body could be overtaken.
Christine stayed silent, as Yoto giggled in response. Izyan's body twisted and returned to Cain's with everyone else following. Only Cain and Rook were left.
-Are you ready? - Rook asked.
-You need to ask? - Cain answered with an unusually friendly tone. - I guess we'll shift inside there?
-Only you and I can retain ourselves there. I need you to-
-I know, I know. I'll keep the idiots at bay as long as you won't let him torch us.
-We are the sword. We will stand, but your words carry harsh truth, as always. The answer will be known soon enough.
Their bodies merged and they entered through the rift.

Ash was holding a piece of meat right out of a freezers over his black eye, all the while nibbling on that meat from time to time. A pout was on his face, while a lone sad eye stared at Trish.
-Oh, stop staring at me like that, you little baby! - Trish said slightly laughing at the end of the sentence. - You know you deserved it.
-But I didn't do anythi-
-You'll be holding another piece of meat over your other eye if you won't stop whining. - She interrupted.
-Should we take him down to the clan? - Caleb asked.
-I'd rather we not risk another "Rawr, grawr, kill, destroy" moment while we do that. - Ash mumbled.
-A rare gem of wisdom, Ash! - Trish's sarcasm was obvious. - Coming from someone, who tore my place apart, even.
-Well, he does have point.
-Yeah, I know, Caleb. - Trish sighed. - I also think there needs to be some father-son talking after both wake up.
-He twitched! - Ash exclaimed.
-No, he didn't. - Caleb reassured him.
-But I saw-
-Shut up, Ash. - Trish grumbled through her teeth.

A thick blackness surrounded them, the two - the young and old. Cain was silent, a small, calm smile on his face, his eyes full of curiosity and wonder. It was a cold, merciless gaze, waiting for the bearer to come in. The sword here was useless, as much as any try to inflict damage to him. He was a spirit, he was everything here. A lonely god in this small universe of dreams.

Small white shades in human shapes appeared from time to time here and there, shaky, unstable substances of memories of lives long lost, long forgotten, desperate to continue, to live, stuck in the moment of death, each of them. It didn't seem Cain was bothered though, only the girl in his arms trembled, clinging to the fabric of his silk wine red shirt.

She thought now, if all of this was actually worth the trouble or, precisely, if she was worth all the trouble. All she did was give up, the moment she stepped through that thick black wall of blackness she gave up. Or maybe she gave up a long time ago, even before that night in the graveyard. What childplay it was. That old romantic bastard that turned her... She couldn't even remember his name. But she was so happy at that moment. So naive. No less than she was now.

Lilian sighed deeply, wishing she could just simply die and be done with it. All this immortality was burdening her, all this fighting for survival, these desperate attempts at staying human. It was useless, wasn't it? She opened her eyes to the darkness surounding them, looking over at the empty stone chair and relaxed, only feeling sorry that Cain tried so much for her. He was a good man. Probably the best she had known so far. Honour was the least thing you'd expect from someone in this day and time, and yet he had it in him, that little spark.

--

Lucifus walked out of the office, the only thing on his mind being his cozy little room back in space. Nothing troubled him there and he could simply continue to watch the world slowly rot from up there. Damien followed him, like a good dog, though carefully examined his 'master'. He always wondered what it was that made him stick with this apathetic, self-centered, holepessly romantic, boring loner.

"Wouldn't you rather die?" a voice stopped the demon and made him look back at the dream-walker.

Ezekiel's green eyes shone mischevously. Damien carefully observed the other bloodsucker. Things seemed to get a little more interesting.

"Wouldn't you rather die, demon? Why live when you barely even move? What's the point of it? You're not bringing anyone back to life, you're wasting the human resource, you barely even think." Ezekiel spoke, his voice bitter and insulting.

Lucifus didn't say a word, but he didn't have to. The way he slouched a little, his eyes darkening, hand slowly moving to grip his weapon said it all.

"There are about a thousand cyborgs in this building and hell knows how many unnaturals..." Damien quickly whispered in his ear and the demon stood down, though the muscle beneath his eye kept twitching a little.

"All these years and you're even more human than ever..." the dream-stalker laughed "Tell you what, let's make a deal..." he came closer "I give you money, a little bit of power, some of my best mercenaries and you... You bring me Hawk and the rest of his fuckers." he said, grinning.

Lucifus blinked curiously, staring back at him as if having no idea what he was talking about.
"No." he simply said, taking a step back and before Ezekiel could even open his mouth, he turned on his heal and started walking "One more word and I'll punch you again. Harder this time."

Damien grinned at the dream-stalker, bowing to him extravagantly, obviously mocking him, and left after Lucifus.

--

Daray stayed in the office all that time, observing the situation and waited for the dream-walker to return to him. Ezekiel stopped in front of him, smiling down, a small fire playing in his green eyes.

"You know what happened..." he said, the corners of his lips twitching.

Daray waited, crossing his legs and leaning back comfortably, staring up at him, the artificial eye scanning for any weak points.

"You don't have to scan me, I know what you want..." Ezekiel purred, walking around him and flopping down on his great big stool behind the table "I know who stalks your dreams..." he whispered silently, crossing his fingers and got his feet onto the table "I know who you want to see, who you want to revive..."

"Fuck you and your games, Ezekiel. Give me what I want and I'll give you what you want." Daray growled silently through the mask, crossing his arms.

"Straight to business as always..." the dream-stalker sighed, the smile disappearing as he sat up straight and picked up the phone.

Cain, Rook

Cain-Rook landed on a thick black nothing. Which, to be fair, didn't say much, since it was all around them. Their body was a rough mix of the two: black strands of hair mixing with white, one eye being green and brown, the other just blue, body parts somewhat disproportional compared to one another and both sides seemingly trying to take over the other, yet never succeeding. The Cain part chuckled:
-Nice design. - He said, pointing at everything around and gesturing in a small circle. - I like the black.
-Please attend to our inner integrity. - Rook intervened. - I'd rather your impulsiveness not insult the First vampire.
"The First can stick a pineapple up his... Just make it quick. I'm not meant to be a nanny for a thousand souls." Cain's thought answered Rook, at which the latter chuckled "Actually, you are, sword-bearer." "I'll wipe the floor with you for forging the swo-..." Cain started, but Rook pushed him away with a slight cringe, took a few steps towards the other Cain and nodded slightly, as if he would have bowed. Rook always had issues with the elders, though he respected them none the less... Well, more issues with Gaea, than anyone else, actually. The First vampire and his scythe at least served a purpose still, even if Lili was a strange choice. He would have expected some special talent, some hidden power, some twist of fate, for this child should not have been entrusted with something to counter the sword. Rook couldn't help but compare himself to Cain, his descendent, the half-breed: he would have chosen someone else, while Cain would drag her through the deepest fiery pits there are, forge her in conflict and MAKE her ready to hold the scythe. No matter the price, he would establish balance. It is said that out of conflict emerge the strongest of souls, the best of us are often covered in scars. Yet, which choice was the most human one?
And only a second had passed after the nod.
-It has been sometime, hasn't it? - Rook's stern voice resounded through the place.
Rook never saw reason for titles, therefore he didn't add any "sir","my lord" or whatever. After all, what does it matter now? And he couldn't help, but smile.
-How have you been? - A redundant question to someone such as they, but still a gesture of respectful decency.

Trish, Ash, Caleb, Joshua

-They twitched! - Ash exclaimed, slightly sliding on the bar counter leftwards, away from Cain and Lili.
-I will not-... - Trish started, but her breath got caught up. - Wait, THEY?
Ash just nodded quickly a few times, while pointing at the two on the ground. A small ark of energy crackled around the artefacts for a second.
Trish and Caleb looked at each other.
-Crackling's good or bad? - Trish asked, her eyes back at the artefacts.
-What do you think? - Caleb answered simply.
Trish rolled her eyes, smirking in return.
-Har har Caleb, very funny.
-I wasn't joking.
And then she sighed.
-Of course you weren't. - She crossed her arms, her foot tapping the wooden floor for a second or two. - OK, lets take him to the clanhold.
Ash jumped of the bar counter, his one free hand flailing around.
-Woah, woah, woah, woah, woah. What about the rawr and the grawr, and the urghhhh?
-Shut up, Ash. - Trish said and waved him off like an irritating fly. - Just go insert the codes.
-Don't say I didn't warn you.
-Go! - Both Caleb and Trish urged him, while picking up Joshua.

It was a strange view, honestly, how Cain looked when he walked in through the veil. Bits of hair white, others - obsidian. They changed constantly, like his beard - long and thickin places, in others short and scarse. Eyes changed color, facial features changed shape...

"He's not real..." Lilian whispered silently. By the time her head was a simple cluster of incoherent, nightmarish thoughts.

She was near panic and couldn't gather back the peaces of herself. Ultimately, it showed. Her feet and fingers cracked, like she was porcelain, small bits falling down, only blackness under them.

The First held her a little bit closer and shushed gently, like one would a crying child.

Of course, who else would it be if not Rook, coming to greet the first child of human sin.

"Oh, just hangin'." he answered playfully with a small smile, bowing his head to the demon shortly, a gentle laugh escaping his lips.

The girl hid herself against his chest, clinging desperately, as if she would fall and shatter into million peaces.

"Please, sit. I could offer you treats, but unfortunately, I like simplicity." he said, as calm as ever.

He was obviously waiting for something. Waiting for them to talk, move, to maybe give reason to their being here, or rather, what they thought they could possibly accomplish with this unlikely, yet rather welcome visit. He was never one to refuse company. People rather amused him.

And he stayed silent in this unchanging darkness that surrounded them, watching the two, and frankly more interested in Cain and what he had to say than Rook. Younger ones had fresher minds and impulsive tempers, which led both to creation and destruction. He and Rook were fossils. There was nothing they could create in this day and age or destroy without actually thinking of and anticipating the consequences beforehand. The young had the ability to change the world, and that was the one simple fact that led to his death and Lilian being his successor.

Rook smirked and the grimace looked as weird as it should have for someone in their position.
-”Just hanging”, huh? - The stern voice resounded, completely negating any vibe a smirk should give out. - Didn't think you were THAT up to the times.
Rook/Cain walked over to one of the stone armchairs and sat down, letting out a satisfying sigh.
-Rock solid. Just the way I remember liking them.
With those words he threw a glance at Lili and the First, letting out another sigh. This one being of sadness.
-I think the young lady would need to rest herself as well. Wouldn't you agree, Cain?

-Have you opened the seal, Ash? - Trish shouted down the stairs as she and Caleb carried Joshua on their shoulders.
-Of course! - Ash answered, pouting slightly. - I'm not retarded, you know?
-Sometimes I doubt that. - Trish said to herself.
-I heard that! - Ash retorted.
-Just go inform “the Shield” operatives we will be having a guest.
-Just a guest?
-Just go already!
Ash didn't answer, since another black eye wasn't on his wish list.
-You should stop being so pushy all the time, Trish. - Caleb spoke, taking the moral high ground as always. - That's no way to treat your friends.
Trish sighed.
-I know, Caleb. I'll buy him a few beers later. Now is not the time for pleasantries, though. We need to take care of Joshua quickly.
-I guess you're right, but a nice word now and then wouldn't hurt, you know.
Trish disregarded that completely.
-Will you be able to take care of Joshua from here on? - She asked as they took steps towards the huge revolving seal leading down into the clanhold.
-No problem. You want to go back and look after Cain and Lili?
-Yes. - A simple answer came out.
This whole thing might have insane consequences and she wouldn't see the clan crumble again. But how would people react to a man and his son coming back from the dead after a hundred years? Cain WAS somewhat of a martyr figure after his sacrifice, but more remember him for the atrocities he had committed to protect what he believed in. “This might be very, very bad...” She thought.
-I know what you're thinking. It's not as bad as it seems. - Caleb reassured her.
-Isn't it? I just don't know anymore.
-This isn't like you, Trish. What-...
-Just go, Caleb. Please. - She pushed out the words with another sigh and turned around, walking up the stairs.
Caleb nodded without an answer and continued on.

He smiled, abruptly, the smile dying down, leaving a small curve to his lips.

“Why shouldn't I?” he asked, though didn't expect an answer.

The First watched him sit, waiting. He had an idea of why Rook would come to see him. It wasn't as if he didn't know what was happening in the world, but it didn't concern him too much, if at all. It was just as much of a fact as that the world was round.

The second question, though, made him laugh. Rest? What was he thinking

“She rested for a whole age. Wouldn't you agree that it was enough, Rook? I don't remember you being so concerned with vampires.” he said, smiling.

Lilian trembled a little, looking over to Rook fearfully. What were they to do? Decide on her fate like it was decided before? She fought it for so long she couldn't remember herself at all, wondering if it was all worth it.

“It's not.” Cain answered her thoughts in a whisper “It never was... Just accept it.” he said, looking down at her, his fingers gently brushing through the black locks.

Rook shook his head slightly.
-Sleeping can be as much a means of running away as it can be resting, Cain. And what is so strange about me showing concern for her well-being? She is to wield the scythe, is she not? You wouldn't have bestowed it upon her otherwise. Or was there no other choice?
He kept silent for a second.
-Or was it your idea of a joke to burden a child with such responsibility? - Rook rubbed his eyes with those words.
The Cain he left to shepherd the souls was doing it in a most unsubtle way possible, and this threatened their state here, though Rook had trust in Cain's ways. It worked a lot more often than not, anyway.
-But you're right. It might have not seemed I cared for vampires much, but my goal always was the continued existence of this world. - Rook looked the First straight in the eyes. - How much DO you remember? Time can be quite unforgiving to the mind.
Rook then looked at Lilian again, quickly catching up to her emotional state this moment and thought to himself “Fate is subjective. Certain events might be set in stone, but there are always a plethora of choices along the paths towards them.

Cain sat and did nothing but listen. Rook was as he used to be, which couldn't be said about Cain. He lived far longer and merged his blood with far too many people to be left the same.

"Words, Rook. Words. You throw nothing but words at me and they are but words. My memory is burned into my blood, as is all the memory of the lives I took. I remember with painful precision, guardian." he said bitterly, his gaze darkening and his brows furrowing, a frightening amount of power making the world around them ripple for a split second "But my memory is not what brought you here. She is what brought you here."

He stood with those words, placing the girl down onto the 'ground'. She stood shaking, her breath fast. Panic, all she felt was panic around this power.

"Look at her and tell me what you see. Do you really only see a child? The sword you made triggered my making of the scythe. The awakening of it when Cain took it triggered me to search for a successor of my power. Not unlike my memory, my power is also burned into the blood. But out of all the children that I have, why her? Because she is a queen." he said, stepping away from her and letting her fall to her knees.

She cried. All this responsibility, all the power, what could she do? She was weak, unworthy, she never was someone to make choices.

"Look at how desperately she fights for her freedom in this. How much power of will does one have to have to fight me for a hundred of years?" he asked and smiled "She's strong, she's just in denial. I don't make the voices, she does. I couldn't make her listen and I really don't know who can. If you want to take part in this, find the one to finally make her think."

Rook folded his fist in his palm and lifted them, putting his chin on them. The right eyebrow rose. Rook was thinking. This turn of events intrigued him.
-Did this blood of yours forget, that words carry power as actions do?
Survival is a challenge. It shouldn't be any other way. And this kneeling girl before him had to survive her torments, so that many others would have a chance at their own survival and challenges. A compassionate smile covered Rook's/Cain's face as he stood up and walked to Lili. He helped her up, holding her by the hands. Then he clasped them and took them into his right hand. With his left, the one belonging to Cain, he gently pushed her chin up and looked at her tear-filled eyes. The left hand then slid, whipping the tears.
-A queen does not cry. Not for herself, Lili. She cries for those she leads, because in leading them, she serves them. She cries when her helping hand is dismissed. - His smile didn't disappear.
But it must have been uncomfortable for her to look them in the eyes. Strangely, unknowingly to Rook, Cain was completely in sync with him this very second. It wasn't only Rook who tried to show compassion to Lili, but it was also Cain, the current wielder of the sword. This could be seen. Both sides were completely still, neither of them trying to overtake the other. They were one.
-Believe m-... - Rook's voice suddenly changed into a mix of his and Cain's. It was a sign a probability that a new person now stood there, holding her hands. - Believe us, when we say we don't wish this burden to harm you. We will help you... Each in our own way. You have a chance to help recreate the world. To make it beautiful again. To give it life, which it's creatures forfeited in their blindness. In opening your eyes, you can open their own.
These words were abruptly cut off. Such merging had put to much strain on the chains that bind the thousand souls of the sword. Rook's essence was pushed down by Cain's. “Your turn to shepherd the flock.” Cain thought resounded to reach Rook. Surprisingly to both of them, Cain's essence was strong enough to establish himself over the most part of the avatar representing them here. Only a few signs of Rook's being here were visible. Cain looked at the First.
-That's what you wanted, right? To see the current sword-bearer? - Cain paced himself as if ready for combat.
He might not have much, if any, power here, but he'd be damned if this old ass in front of him won't get a piece of his mind. This showed. His figure was circled by the essences of other souls. He controlled them here still. He was still as much in control of himself as anywhere.
-You disgust me, vampire. All this power, all this knowledge! And what do you do with it?! You throw it all on a girl, providing nothing but half-assed guidance. I thought you would know how to be a teacher by now. You say Rook's only throwing words?! What have you done?! Don't dare tell me it was anything more than what you accused him of!
He wouldn't let the First speak a word until he listened to all Cain had to say. His visage started changing again, exhibiting some wolf demon details. The sword was attacking the scythe.
-If she falls, - Cain pointed at Lili, than immediately at the First, - it will be because YOU let her!
-THAT'S ENOUGH! - Rook emerged as quickly as he had been subdued, Cain's essence disappearing almost completely, only the hair and the left eye of green and brown mix remaining as a sign of him still there.
-I... Apologise for that outburst, Cain. - Rook said, rubbing his eyes. - He's the strongest sword-bearer yet, and I must admit to having difficulty of influencing him. I can't control him, as I could other souls, as it obviously showed here.
Rook glance at Lili for a second, hoping she wouldn't have been terrified of what had just happened. What he saw was...

Cain only let out a small snicker at Rook's words.

“You'd be surprised how little power I have over her. Even in words.” he said simply, letting him do what he did, watching them curiously.

Lilian felt the warm touch, her skin feeling like ice since she felt like she was freezing. All her thoughts made up the world around them and how she looked in this small universe. The words did little more but confuse her. A queen? Her? No, she wasn't. She didn't want to be and she wouldn't be. She was given a burden that had to be given to someone else, she was sure of it. She felt a little more than a mistake.

“What did I tell you?...” Cain said with obvious sadness in his voice.

His eyebrow raised, though, when he saw the other Cain appear in such a violent manner. He shouted at him, but The First did nothing but smile at him, wickedly almost, curious beyond reason. Cain was a new spark of interest and there was a small sign of regret for his death, only because he wouldn't be able to see this individual any more than this once.

Lilian, though, cowered away from him on the verge of screaming.

“Oh, please, there's no need to apologise. Children are impulsive.” Cain said silently, leaving Lilian cowering behind his chair and walked over to the demon.

“I can force her into it, be sure of that. But that would be the death of her as herself. Do you wish that, Cain?” he asked, looking at the green and brown eye, calling him out. “She didn't listen to you. She doesn't listen to me. She's lost somewhere I can't find. What would you have me do?” he asked, obviously calling him out for advice.

Lilian stared at him, surprised. The First vampire asking Cain for advice? What was this? The simple impossibility of it called out a little brightness to her mind, but it wasn't enough to sooth the frightened soul.

Rook smirked at how right the First was. But unlike children, the sword-bearer actually had a valid point for such an outburst, as problematic as it could have been. With that Rook let go of control and allowed Cain to fully resurface.
-If you wouldn't have pussied out of life, I'd kill you myself. But... - Cain cringed at the thought of agreeing to the First.
Then he grabbed the First by the wrist and put his palm on his forehead.
-Show her the innocent victims of war.

Trish ran up the stairs and into the room Cain and Lilian lay as quickly as she could once she felt the immense surge of power emanating from the artefacts. Arks of flames were swirling around, almost touching the wooden walls, floor and celling. And then they lessened, becoming just small swirls around the interacting artefacts.
-What. The. Shit? - She pushed out through clenched teeth.

Ash walked down a metal staircase, his footsteps resounding from the walls of the entrance bunker. This place could take on a nuke and be let unscathed thanks to all the new tech gimmicks it's wall full of. The guard didn't point guns at him. They new him all too well as a local funny-man.
-Who did you piss off now, Ash? Did Trish show you her limitless love again? - One of the guards, a half-breed of an earth demon and a dark divine mix mocked him friendly in greeting.
-Laugh it up, Serge. It will add up to your bill at the bar. - Ash answered, unusually grumpy.
-What crawled up and died in your ass today? - Serge countered.
-You'll see soon. We're having a special guest soon. The “special” parts might be going both ways, thought. - Ash answered with a smirk.
Caleb was just climbing down the stairs himself, Joshua still hanging on his shoulders.
-That him? - Serge gestured with his rifle.
Ash turned to throw a glimpse, then turned back.
-Yup. We need to get him to somewhere private with easily accessible medical equipment. He just turned.
-Well, shit. - Serge only pushed out. - OK, maggots, escort assignment time. Stark and Gibbs, you two go with them.
-Aye, sir. - The two answered. Stark was a water demon and Gibbs was an indigo vampire.
Those two immediately turned towards the first of many seals leading to the first level of the clanhold below them.

Cain smiled warmly at the other, treating him no less than an equal. Even if he was still a small child in his eyes, all the ages that he lived made the sword-bearer little less than a few months old.

“I would be honoured, sword-bearer... Unfortunately, I have already died.” he said simply, with a carefree laugh.

He didn't have time to say anything else, since Cain grabbed his arm and practically slammed his palm into his forehead. It only made The First smile more, letting him do what he wished. He nodded at the request and soon the surroundings started to change.

First the chairs disappeared and earth spread out around them. It was brown and dead, cracks of corrosion seen here and there. A few moments later rain started pouring down and the sky appeared above their heads, gloomy, crying over the dying earth. Sound slowly appeared and figures of people long dead and those mourning. Wailing, crying and screaming filled the air before it was killed by explosions and gunshots. Figures of soldiers slowly appeared as if from a fog, running in every direction. A man ran down near them with a gun. A simple man, dressed in a business suit, nothing more than a bank accountant. He was shot, directly in the back and fell, unable to move his legs. He moaned and continued on crawling, running away. Explosion and screams again as buildings appeared around them and concrete sprouted out of the ground, one building crumbling down on two children.

Lilian watched for those few moments as it appeared before hiding her eyes in her palms. A small shroud of darkness from before surrounded her. She cried and shook her head violently.

“No!” she shouted in a desperate voice. She didn't want to see this, as she didn't want to see the world. It was horrible, uninviting, cruel and merciless. And she ran from it all her life. From the day she saw her father die to the moment she was forced to kill her first victim as a vampire due to bloodthirst.
