-Yes... - Cain only said.
Show her Akhinari.” He let the First hear the thought.

Trish just stood there. Everything around her changed into a battlefield. She knew where she was.
-Akhinari... - She weakly whispered.
She knew it from Cain's blood. Something was happening where ever he and Lili were. And whatever they were doing, it affected her. But it would only be Trish to see this out of the inside of the artefacts. Again, for she had tasted Cain's blood. The horrid images followed one after another, always coupled with gunshots, explosions, blood and screams of pain.
She saw Cain rushing forward with his squad. Ash among them, obviously. Then, out of nowhere, a little girl appeared. Cain aimed and shot the kid square between the eyes, blowing her head clean off. The body fell immediately, but just before it hit the ground, an explosion went off. The girl was strapped with explosives. She was there to kill them. A tear shone in the corner of Trish's eye, sliding down her cheek.
But it didn't stop there. The same squad was now standing in a square of a desert town. The square had a large well in the middle of it, which waters had long dried out. War kills not only those of flesh and blood. Rotting bodies lay atop one another by the well, soldiers throwing them into it. Gasoline tanks standing close, ready to be emptied into the well once all the bodies were there, Then, they would be set aflame. But it would not happen soon. A new batch of eight soldiers were led and knelt in front of it all. Then came out Cain, carrying an M1911 pistol. The clip held 7 bullets and one was already in it's chamber. He was the executioner, with one bullet for each prisoner, put straight through the back of their heads. Every one of them had families they fought to protect, none of them would come back to theirs.
And this is the man that she LOVED?! She had seen it all before... But now...
Yet she would not turn away. It wasn't out of fear. She had to see this through.

Cain nodded and the surroundings changed according to the sword-bearers memory. He did little but stand there, though as he turned his eyes to the girl he furrowed his brows.

Lilian was hiding her face in her palms, praying in her head that this would just pass. Cain let out a silent feline growl, raising his free hand slowly. The blackness around the girl slowly narrowed until it was gone and before she knew it, an invisible force drew her hands away from her face and didn't let her close her eyes.

“Look.” he said, the word echoing in her head as it did a hundred years ago. That time... She blocked it off, refused to remember. The things Cain made her see, the lives he made her live through.

“NO!” she shouted and tried to break away from the force. Slowly her fear started turning to anger. She watched Cain kill the child, watched the pile of bodies, watched him put a bullet into a man's head. One by one he killed them and with each one her rage grew.

A scream echoed through the vision, distorting it, breaking down, destroying everything that was there, darkness surrounding them again.

“I think you went through to her...” Cain said with a small smile before his body dissipated into a small fog.

The world changed around them again, turning into a land of flames. The ground was flat, but cracked and smoke rose from underground, the sky black with ash. Her anger was out of control to say the least, her eyes burning red. A scythe appeared in her hands, the body of Cain turning into a weapon.

Slowly, step by step, she approached her so-called victim, power just bursting out of her, her body turning into a beast in form of thousands of human beings, slowly but inevitably surrounding Cain. All the eyes were upon him, burning in rage. She pulled up the scythe, but before she could swing it into Cain's neck, she stopped.

Everything stilled, a black rain pouring over the land before it was all gone and she stood in front of him, just looking up, a little frightened of herself. Right now she would have no one around. She needed to think, and a lot.

The veil moved with her as she walked away, not letting Cain stay inside any longer. Finally, she felt at peace, even if it was in complete confusion, but right now it was to be the right kind.

Just before the veil touched Cain's body, the First appeared in front of him, extending his being in this realm

“Visit me sometime. I'd love to chat.” he said, smiling a little and it was all gone with Cain back in the realm of the Sword.

And so the first lesson has been passed on. Cain's and Rook's bodies divided, becoming two again.
-I'd love that, too. - Rook answered, knowing the First would still hear it. The artefacts were still in contact, even if the veil was closed between them.
Then he turned to Cain.
-Well I'll be a monkey's uncle. - Rook said, chuckling slightly. - You actually got through to her.
-Surprised, old goat? - Cain countered, smiling.
It wasn't just a smile of satisfaction of getting through that thick skull of hers. The puzzle pieces were setting into place.
-Not that I didn't trust you to do all you could, but that was a worthy challenge. - Rook started explaining himself.
He was genuinely impressed for the first time in a long, long time. Cain just shrugged, letting out a simple “Meh...”
-Now she only needs to let the darkness envelope her enough for her to see the light. - He only added.
-And in it, she will find purpose. - Rook finished the thought.
Then his eyes widened.
-We've forgot something...
Cain sighed and rubbed his eyes.
-Motherfucker. I let you yap all that time and you forget to ask about the god damn Gem of the dog-fucking, fire-farting, rainbow-puking Power to help us recreate the freaking LIFE in this god-forsaken shit hole of a planet.
-Well, it wasn't as if you intervened unexpectedly. - Rook retorted sarcastically.
-Shut the fuck up! You're supposed to be the all-knowing wise-ass here!
-And you're suppo-...
-Oh, would you kids stop your bickering. - An over-motherly woman's voice came from behind them.
Rook turned around.
-Artemis? I didn't expect anyone here so soon.
-So? You two could be heard in the scythe, without a doubt. Now, I'd like you to tell about your adventures with the First, but I believe Cain has a whole world to save.
-AGAIN. - He grumbled.
-Well, who else would you have it do? Give the Sword to ASH?
Awkward silence came, with Rook and Cain staring intently at each other.
-I hate you. - Cain let out with a very strong, hateful tone.
-Wouldn't have it any other way. - Rook answered, smiling from ear to ear. - Now go on,git! Go be the hero your ego wants you to be.
-I-... - Cain started, but was pushed out by Rook.
It's MY sword, you old goat!” Cain managed to leave the words resounding inside the Sword's realm, before opening his eyes.
He lifted himself from the ground, his body recuperated, but still a bit shaking. His palm slid down his forehead and ending rubbing his eyes again. Then he realised it was the palm he had cut to enter the Sword.
-...Need a drink. - He let out with a heavy sigh.
As he lifted his head to see Trish, he could only push out an “Oh, fuck me...”

Trish had already wiped her tears, but her eyes were still glimmering from tears. She walked up to Cain and was about to help him get up, only to get these words thrown at her:
-You saw that, didn't you?
-N-no...- She started.
-Don't lie to me, Trish. - The initial words came out in a harsh tone, but were followed by a sigh. - I'm... Sorry. I really didn't want you to see that.
-It's... O.K., I guess. It's not the first time I saw that.
Cain didn't answer. He just stood up with as little help from her as possible. He took off the pendant from his sword and threw in onto Lili.
-She'll come to when she's ready. She has some growing-up to do. - With those words he was about to leave, the only smell he hunted for was some good ol' whiskey.
Trish flailed her hands.
-That's it?
Cain stopped dead in his tracks, his head down.
-And what do you expect me to say?
-I don't know! Something! Anything! A “I'm glad to see you again.” would be a good start.
Cain turned around, smiling slightly.
-I could start whispering all the sweetest words I know into your ear, but all I would hear is “Why did you come back? Do you have a world to sacrifice for again?”, wouldn't I?
Trish sighed. Cain smirked.
-Thought s-...
Trish jumped on him, wrapping her arms around him.
-Shut up, or I'll kick you in the nuts.
-Fair enough. - Cain answered, his arms wrapping around her in return.

The darkness was more soothing now than it ever was, and the shades that she used to fear now seemed so precious and close. All these years she was running away from this? From this beauty?

Cain walked over to the young girl
"How do you feel, child?... " he asked her gently, putting his hand on her shoulder, his cold fingers sliding to her neck in a soothing manner.

"I feel lost..." she said silently "but I think I know where I have to go now..." she added and took a small step forward before stopping and turning to Cain "Don't leave me?..." she asked in a silent desperate voice of a small child begging a father.

Cain only let out a small laugh
"Even if I wanted to, I couldn't now." he said, a smile still on his face "I will always be here. Whenever you're lost, just think about me, I'll answer."

The girl smiled a small, sad smile
"I have many lives on my shoulders now, don't I?..." she asked and turned her eyes away "Many of them will die..."

"And even more will be born. Don't worry, the world is so much more beautiful than it seems at first." he answered her and brushed her hair.

The world around them slowly changed, grass sprouting under their feet, such a vivid green it hurt the eyes. And flowers, wild flowers so beautiful you couldn't take your eyes off them. The sun shone through the leaves of trees that appeared above their heads, taller than any building, it seemed. Lilian couldn't help but raise her head to see the blue sky. It almost made her cry, how beautiful it was, how she missed it.

"Look closely, child. This is the realm of Gaeia. You will find her deep in the jungles of Amazon. The untouched sanctuary. It will be hard getting in there, since everything was done to protect that small garden of Eden from trespassers. But under the tree that she fused herself with there is an entrance to the cave which leads to the stone of power that Rook is searching for. Warn him, though, that she's no human and compassion is not her forte. She's as wild as nature and her anger can destroy both artefacts together and the world. Don't doubt that she sees what is going on, but she fell into such a deep slumber that it comes in dreams. I don't know if it's such a good idea to wake a dragon god when his cave was robbed and violated." Cain said, speaking with such love it was obvious he had all too human feelings for her, but it was also obvious that he was loving a goddess who couldn't answer with the same.

"Why did she go to sleep anyway?..." Lilian asked, looking over at him again after she had her time gazing upon the beautiful forest.

"The same reason I did. To let our children grow." he said with a warm smile.

Lilian wanted to ask something else but she was already thrown back into the world of the living, feeling herself lying on the cold hard ground. She opened her eyes, gazing upon the world like a newborn child and the first thing she saw when she turned her head was Trish lunging at Cain.

"No, don't help me up..." she grunted, turning her eyes away from the lovey-dovey couple. She didn't envy Cain in particular, she envied the support they gave each other. The closeness, the love... But right now, it didn't really matter, did it? She picked herself up from the ground, a little confused and shaken from what just happened, but she had strength in her. To herself she promised that whatever was thrown at her now would be thrown back with double strength and whatever pain she would feel would be greeted as a challenge. She needed nobody but herself, and the thought came with anger.

Cain and Trish turned to Lili, holding one of their hands still around each other's waists.
-That was quick, considering how thick-headed you were before. - Cain said in his usual demeaning manner. - Though it does prove you as a choice not being completely foolish.
Trish's hand slid form his waist and elbowed him right beneath his ribcage, Cain grunting slightly.
-Knock it off, Cain. Are you two alright? We should get both of you looked at.
Cain smirked, but said nothing.

Seals upon seals, and it was only the first level of the clanhold they were approaching.
-They're awake. - Caleb spoke first after awhile of silence.
-Yeah, I felt that. - Ash said in an unusually serious tone, which quickly changed to the often heard light-hearted one. - And hey! The world hasn't exploded... Yet!
The two guards looked at each other. “The Shield” were the second highest protection force in the clanhold, though they were led to be believed to be the first. Therefore they were allowed to keep the visage of having looser rules when interacting with others.
-Just who are we escorting here? - Stark asked, obviously unnerved with the possible implication of the world's doom.
-Don't worry. - Ash answered. - It's just that things are about to get a whole lot more interesting.
-Whenever you say that, it usually means something is about to go horribly, horribly wrong. - Stark answered.
Ash only chuckled at the remark. It was this rare moments that made him feel like a trickster watching over the fates of the world. Knowing how Cain was before he became the monster that tried to retain his soul that he sacrificed to try and save the world was an amusing aspect of the story that had just gained a new chapter after a long time. And things had changed drastically in these hundred years. “Resurrections, crash landings and ancients... And it's only a bridge to the things that are to come.” He thought to himself. “This will be very, very interesting.

Lilian glared only, deciding she wanted nothing to do with this brute. But there was this unfinished business with that mother of demons... "I didn't want to be chosen in the first place." she mumbled, patting her dress down and thinking that she needed a change of clothes. The dress was a black rag, nothing else and it hardly felt like it hid anything anymore. She refused still to be the so called 'queen' of vampires, but at the very least, she considered that she was responsible for learning to control the power in her hands and use it for the right reasons, since the world was full of idiots. Though 'the right reasons' was a subject to discuss. "Are we planning to stand around all day?" she asked, looking up at the two finally, wondering what the hell kept Trish by Cain's side for so long.

--

"Five vials. Not less."
"Are you kidding me? Three pure-blood demons in two days?"
"On, not if you can get me blood from a powerful one..."
"Fuck you, dick-sucker."
"Oh, if only you had what to fuck with!~"

Daray couldn't hold back anymore and grabbed at the other's collar. This vampire deserved more punches to that ugly mug than he got period. He was playing him, that slippery circus freak. "I'll slit your throat, I promise..." the Scandinavian huffed into the mask in his metallic voice, not the subtlest hint of holding back his feelings. "You'll hurt yourself, darling. Feelings are a baaad thing for a Symph such as yourself." Ezekiel's eyes shone with glee and amusement.

"Fine. Five vials. But this better be good, dream-stalker." Daray hissed, letting go of his scurf. "Oh believe me, it will be, robot-boy. It will." Ezekiel answered, grinning mischievously and watching the other leave. "No smoking in corridors!" he shouted at his back when he was already behind the door. Daray only showed him the finger while lighting up a cig and left the building. Shit, three demons to hunt down. Where the hell could he find three useless pure-bloods to kill without getting stalked by a hundred more in this city? And older than fifty. Better start gathering information... There was bound to be someone who wanted someone else's head pretty on a plate.

Cain smirked at Lili's impatience, but didn't say a thing. He turned around and started walking towards the basement.
-Uhhh...Where are you going? - Trish asked.
-The clanhold. - Cain asnwered casually as if he had been in this one hundreds of times.
-How do you-... - Trish started, but Cain was already climbing down the stairs. - ...know.
Trish sighed and rubbed her eyes. She really wanted to slap him around, but she couldn't. He seemed to not have changed at all. "Seemed" being the key word here. Then she turned to Lili again and gestured in the same direction.
-Lets go after him. He seems to know the way. I'll take you to the infirmary first though. I want you both checked out and that's final. - She said. Then she looked Lilian down and smiled. - And we really need to find you new clothes.

"You didn't forget about Gaea, did you Cain?" Rook's voice resounded. "No." Cain answered. "So why didn't you inquire?" "'Cause I don't give a rat's ass at the moment." "Do NOT take this lightly, Cain!" "I'm not! We need to see how the world is, you old goat. I NEED to see what's left worth fighting for." Rook didn't say anything. "Good. Stay that way. You're in MY head, after all." was Cain's answer to the silence.

The closer he got to the seal, the more his blood boiled. Cain felt Joshua's state. He needed to get to him, but he first had to get inside. This world was so different. Technology was now enough to stop anyone without clearance trying to get inside by means of magic. His steps quickened. "The blood beckons, does it not?" Another voice resounded in Cain's mind. "Shut up, Izyan. I don't need your bullshit now." Izyan laughed. "Spoken like a child." "Spoken like someone who doesn't know his place." "So you're a tyrant now?" Izyan retorted mockingly. "No. I'm a father, apparently." "You're also the one carrying the Sword." "I did not forget." "Neither did we."
-Stop right there! - Serge commanded, his weapon aimed at Cain. His eyebrow rose soon after. - Oh. You're one of them. I'm surprised one of you actually has the spine to go outside.
-Sir? - A wind demoness wearing the same "Shield's" attire spoke. Her looks resembled her element: pale skin with a bluish tone, her movements quick as if carried by strong winds. - We can't get a read on him. He's not in the registry.
Serge kept aiming at Cain, Cain kept walking.
-I told you to stop!
A small part of the Sword detached and was soon stuck in the barrel of the assault rifle Serge had aimed at Cain. Serge immediately threw down the weapon, conjured a shadow around Cain and was about to shift the concrete beneath, but light pierced the black cloud, blinding him and the wind demoness. They both covered their eyes, letting out sounds one would relate to such discomfort. Cain just continued on. As he walked by them, the small chip shot back into the sword. He also picked up a pack of cigarettes that lay on a nearby coffee table by the sand bags there, that were supposed to provide some cover. Which was just pathetic for the world as it was now.
He stopped by the seal, turned round and leaned on it, lighting a cigarette as well and letting out a moan of satisfaction as he exhaled.
-Do NOT aim your toys at me again. - He remarked in a casual tone.

Trish and Lili were about to walk through the first seal that was in the basement when they saw the flash of light. Thankfully, they had enough cover to not be affected much. She burst into running and jumped over the railing of the metal catwalk that led to the metal staircase ending on the other side of the room from the second seal.
-What the hell, Cain?! - She exclaimed as she ran up to Serge.
-They're fine. - Cain answered as if nothing had happened.
-I'm fine, Trish. - Serge said, putting his hand on her shoulder. - Check on Jezable.
-I'm good as well. - The wind demoness answered.
Serge managed to straighten out, but still covered his eyes.
-This... - He rubbed his eyes and groaned. - ...Your friend, Trish?
-You might say that.
-Will he be trouble?
-You'd be dead if I was. - Cain answered that one.
-Cain! Shut your trap already!
Serge smirked, continuously rubbing his eyes. He was a very level-headed person, and it showed now. No threats, no curses.
-That's some coincidence. The same name and the same a**hole attitude.
Trish went up to the seal's number pad and punched in the code.
-Yeah... It really is. Don't worry. I'll make sure he's under control.

Lilian walked after them, seeming to be rather out of it, thinking other things and frankly not really caring who pissed off who, just following them and thinking that if anything, she could just leave and be done with it. There was an amount of patience she had for Cain's bullshit, and right now the glass was almost full. All she knew was that it was too fucking loud around Cain and it was annoying more than anything else. The light made her hiss and she stopped, rubbing her eyes for a moment before getting all of her vision back, seeing Trish shout at Cain and two others being helped up. "Flashy." she mumbled bitterly at Cain's performance, walking down the stairs tiredly and uninterested, mostly just pissed with everything that was happening.

"Hush, child. Concentrate on more important things." she heard a voice in her head and almost jumped from surprise, a cluster of questions in hear mind rising up immediately, all answered with one simple word "Yes. You stopped repulsing me, so I can communicate with you. I will let you take full control when you're ready and go to my final rest with that. For now, you need guidance." Cain answered calmly and she could swear he was smiling. Her brows furrowed gently and she took a few steps forward, realizing she probably looked like an idiot, just standing there and looking around as if some crazy paranoid person. "Warn me next time, ok?!" she grunted to herself silently. Cain was laughing "It's just too easy to scare you. We have to work on that." "We ain't workin' on nothin'!" she pouted and folded her arms together on her chest, standing aside from the two lovebirds and following them into the elevator, staying in the corner and pretending she wasn't there with them.

"Say what you think to him. It'll be easier that way." she heard the voice again and almost wanted to swat around like there was an annoying bug flying around. "He doesn't deserve it." she only hissed, glaring up at the living Cain from her spot, wanting to spit at the ground, but did no such thing. She was a girl and girls didn't do that, and she didn't care what others thought about manners, to her they mattered and it was all that mattered. "Oh finally I see the girl I chose." Cain purred proudly. Okay, that was it.

"SHUT THE FUCK UP!" she let out angrily and grabbed at her head for a little while, taking a deep breath and calming down afterwards, refusing to look in Cain and Trish's directions, just FEELING she might get some big talk about voices in her head from Cain. After what she saw in that sword, she was almost certain he would be just dying to lecture someone with the same problem, he seemed the type, so she just looked down at the ground beneath her feet and waited for the ride to end. And it was unbearably long for a simple elevator ride. This wasn't any 'simple' elevator, though. The only thought she got about this place is that it was built by someone compensating for a small dick. Cain came to mind, but it couldn't be him, since he was dead for a hundred years. "Stop being an angsty teenager and start memorizing your surroundings." the voice interrupted her angry thoughts again and she rolled her eyes "FINE, mister know-it-all king-of-all-suckers." "Good girl, heir to the throne-of-all-suckers." he laughed back at her. "GRAA!" she just wanted to strangle someone so bad right now.

Trish punched in a five-digit code. Each number had to be pushed with a different finger, since the number pad was also a fingerprint scanner. Then a hand scan needed to be done during which a small needle would take a blood sample as well. It was followed by voice-recognition and a retinal scan.
Afterwards, the seal pushed backward and rotated to the left, though Cain didn't lose balance and just leaned forward to stand straight. They now had a way into a short corridor. After the first step inside it the seal behind them closed. At the corridor's end stood another seal of the same manner and the same procedure took place. This lead to another short corridor where the seal closed after the first step in as well. At it's end was a two-part glass door. It was opened by punching in yet another code. Behind them was a small room. After the door closed, the room was filled with some gas.
-Don't worry. - Trish said. - It's just for neutralizing any dangerous substances invisible to the naked eye.
After this, they came into yet another corridor. This one led to a huge two-part wall. A camera zoomed in on the trio and a yellow light lit up, signalling the "wall" parting itself. One part went up, the other - down. Behind it was a huge elevator, quite enough to fit from six to eight heavy vehicles. It's sides were covered in a yellow line with black stripes. Since they were underground, the shaft was covered in lights at regular intervals. At the bottom side of the elevator each of it's corners had a small light. Just enough to see in a two-meter radius.

The whole way towards the elevator there was this passive-aggressive conversation between Trish and Cain. Well, it was a monologue, really. Cain was simply observing his surroundings, measuring the defensive capabilities of this place. Along the way he noticed some automated turrets on the ceiling and walls, but that was it. He wonder what had been the composition of these walls. He felt his non-physical powers to be severely limited. If this applied to anyone inside the compound, it was as much a tomb as it was a sanctuary. Trish only noticed Cain completely ignoring her once the elevator moved in it's insanely slow pace.
-Are you even listening to me?! - She exclaimed.
-You seem to really have built something worthy of a praise here, Trish. - Cain said without looking at her, his eyes running around the shaft's walls.
-You didn't answer my question. - She said with a frown.
Cain quickly turned to her.
-Huh? You were saying something?
-Why you little...! - Trish didn't finish and tried to slap Cain.
He simply took a step back, smirking slightly. That annoyed Trish to no end, inciting her to chase after Cain in an attempt to land a solid punch or kick on him. In return, Cain kept easily evading her with slight jumps to one side or another as if he was just slightly floating above ground, all the while smirking playfully at her. He would never play with anyone or anything in the past but Trish. Yet this he would only do in such a manner. With all the difference between past and present, some things still remained the same.
This went on for a while until their play time was interrupted by Lili's shout. Trish looked at her, then back at Cain.
-What's her problem? - She gestured slightly at Lili.
-Not us. - Cain answered, though he knew the state of mind Lili was in.
Still, as far as he cared, she was simply having a childish fit. The type a broody teenager would exhibit upon waking up and opening one's eyes to take in the surroundings. She should be happy, to be honest. She's not the one that spent a hundred years with a thousand bickering old fucks inside the head. Which he is still doing, for a matter of fact.
Trish went up to Lili.
-You alright? - She asked sincerely.
"See?" A voice resounded in Cain's head. "That's what YOU should be doing. You're the only one that understands her predicament now." Cain just grunted at the remark. "The best lessons are those you learn yourself. We woke her up, but she has to get her shit together herself. Otherwise, she's just a nuisance." "You helped Trish. Is she a nuisance as well?" Cain almost shouted out Lili's words as well. "Shut yer traps before I make ya'!" What was a playful smirk now became the usual grimace of annoyance, anger and harshness mixed into one again.
