A while back on this board, in the following topic:

Harrigan's Nick

I mentioned that John Bowler who played P.C. Roger Valentine in THE BILL had been filming a film in the North-East called HARRIGAN'S NICK.

It has finally been released under the title HARRIGAN.

Here's a trailer for it:

As well as the YouTube channel for the production company that made it:

TallTree Pictures YouTube

and the Facebook page:

and the official website:

It hasn't got a massive film release yet but keep an eye out.

John plays a postmaster in it who is rather nasty and a freemason.

Is looking like a very gritty, old school type of police film; I hope it does well as there haven't been that many of these in recent times.

Cheers for posting the vid' and keeping us up to date :police2:

It is.

The premier was actually held at the Gala Theatre in Durham (as in Durham Cathederal that was used as "Hogwarts" in HARRY POiTTER) and I managed to get a ticket (some tickets were available to the public).

I followed it around when they were filming up here (as I like doing with my hobby) and it was interesting to see the scenes I had seen filmed on the screen.

Oh wow, thanks very much for sharing this with us Paul, and sharing all of the links too, a gold star for you!! :bravo:

I hope that you enjoyed the Premier Paul, I am sure it must give the film an extra dimension spotting all the bits that you saw being filmed. :)

This film is now out on DVD called DETECTIVE HARRIGAN which is available to order from Amazon as well as buy it in store in HMV and ASDA.

As mentioned in my first post about it, John Bowler has a small part as a post master who is a rather nasty character.

The person who wrote the film, Arthur McKenzie, is a former policeman from Newcastle who, after leaving the force in the 1980s, went to write for CASUALTY and THE BILL where him, and a couple of other people, created the character of Burnside.

HARRIGAN is based on Arthur him-self and his experiences in the force.

 Thanks for the update on this one Paul and the wonderful additional information.

Its wonderful to see that a former policeman is putting some of his own on the job reality up on the screen; as good as any writer may be, there is no compensating for the actual experience, as nasty as some it may be. :police2:

No problem.

Some other things about HARRIGAN.

I went to a few of the q and a sessions after the screenings and the film was originally going to be a t.v. series. A Producer for the BBC called Geriant Morris, who was involved with CASUALTY in the early days, asked Arthur McKenzie to come up with a new police programme. Arthur wrote a script called "Harrigan's Nick" (which, when filming in the North-East, HARRIGAN on the call sheets was called HARRIGAN'S NICK).
Geriant Morris then died and the script was shelved when new bosses came in.
Arthur McKenzie's daughter, Kirsty Bell, who was a Producer, then went to Cannes with a partner from her film company to sell the idea as a film.
It was then made into a film.

No problem Sazzy.

And if any members want to check the film out it is available at ASDA, HMV and Amazon. £7.99 for a thoroughly good film.
