A new series of SKINT has just started on Channel 4 on Monday evenings which is about people on the dole. Instead of showing people like me (struggling but looking for work), these programme makers always look for the worst case scenarios (struggling and thieving, etc.) as it supposedly makes good t.v ! Anyway. I watched it and could've sworn the narrator was Ralph Inneson (see picture below) of THE OFFICE and THE BILL fame but it was actually Steven Hartley (Superintendent Tom Chandler) not sounding like his voiceovers on Talksport.

Thanks very much for letting us know Paul. And yes I agree with you, showing the worst members of society and attempting to make all benefit claimants look like they live the life of Riley seems to becoming a party trick of Channel 4 & 5 at the moment. But I guess it is inevitable if you look at the political affiliations of the owners of the channels. It is no wonder that discrimination and attacks toward those disabled and sick claimants of benefits in the UK has risen recently. |

Its a pity there is no link available for a series done by training guru Craig Michaels, who took a group of drug addicts, reformed criminals and the downright lazy and got them all back into the workforce and through his program they found a new purpose to life. It also highlighted one particular employer who does not discriminate on the grounds of past discretions, but only concentrates on the here and now and what a person can do (the Hilton Hotel chain). There needs to be more programs like this that show the positive side of job seeking - not everyone is just lazy or simply unemployable. |

*applies for a job at the Hilton Hotel* we need more employers out there like that, I have one friend who recently applied for a job in a recycling centre after taking time off after having a baby. All the job entailed was sorting out recyclable items and non recyclable items and yet the centre would not accept her application because she had been out of the work force for over 2 years!! Sometimes however hard you try and the effort put in is never going to be good enough and it is easy for those people in their comfortable homes, with their well paid jobs, happy families and good health to judge, easier still when the politicians and TV companies demonize all benefit claimants as lazy whatever their circumstances. I am just finding it more and more depressing that as a society this is the way we treat those most in need. |

I can see the programme makers point of view. They need someone who will pull in the audience. Instead of filming someone like me who does jobsearching and volunteers in two charity shops, for experience, to learn new skills and to keep busy, they need to film someone who will draw in the viewers like the ones who don't want to work and take drugs, etc. I would even admit. Watching a genuine jobseeker like me would be boring. |

I can see the programme makers point of view too Paul, they want the most viewers to watch their show to get the best possible slot/advertising revenue possible. So it doesn't matter to them whether they use morally corrupt methods getting them, it doesn't matter if they exploit the people in the programme who are quite often poor and less educated members of society who are then used as fodder for the British press to exploit further creating more stereotypes as long as they get their money its all good. To be honest Paul I would disagree with you, I think your life is quite interesting, if producers can create a programme such as gogglebox which basically shows a bunch of people doing nothing but sittng on a sofa chatting, then I think they are quite capable of making a handful of watchable documentaries showing the lives of real people such as yourself, who not only does voluntary work but also has interesting hobbies too. perhaps if they are after newsworthy people they could start with the Falklands veteran with terminal cancer who has been told he was still fit to search for work or maybe those families who have had to resort to foodbanks? In my opinion these programmes are created for one of two reasons: sheer lazyness in the aim to get big viewing figures using whatever tactic is available or two make a political point that this government have been trying to brainwash the UK with, that all benefit claimants are scroungers and wasters. As you can tell my opinion is just that an opinion, I just think these programmes are morally wrong and unfair, but it is just that an opinion and I am sure there are plenty out there who would happily disagree with me - well there obviously is, my facebook newsfeed is full of comments of benefit claimants after these programmes are aired - so yes well played programme makers your job is done, the majority of this country have turned into lemmings and believe every word of your "documentaries".... so what time will the book burning begin? yeah okay maybe I shouldn't be let near the keyboard before I have had my first morning cuppa, I can be kinda grouchy first thing!

Cheers Sazzy. ![]() For anyone reading this, Sazzy is right. I do have some interesting hobbies: 1.) I follow film crews around the North-East to watch behind the scenes of t.v./film. 2.) I volunteer in two charity shops to give me experience for jobs as well as jobsearching. 3.) I also have my own YouTube channel (link below) on which I regular vlog on. My YouTube Vlogs |
