Dear Current Administrators of TBA, Stop erasing posts and topics. All of you. As a regular of TBA who loved it dearly, you have no idea how much it kills me that so many topics were left to the trash without member consent. And it wasn't just drama posts -some of you deleted any post that you didn't like, from roleplays, from anything...you deleted the entirety of A Very Potter Roleplay, as an example. As the creator of that roleplay, I realize it was somewhat of a failure, but the fact that it was erased without my consent is upsetting, and there were a few members who enjoyed it. I realize that there were some things posted on TBA that many of us are not proud of. Drama and the like. But even with that drama, TBA was so, so, important to me, and others. Yet, certain moderators have ignored this and have erased topic upon topic -that showed in the Administrator history. Even if you say it was only a single topic or a single post, the forum has been trimmed down. You say this is only "cleaning up the forum," but it's erasing our history, and I won't stand for it. To those of you who've returned to this forum only to remove things periodically, please stop. It simply isn't fair to those of us who are nostalgic and like looking back, and I know I don't speak of myself alone. With all due respect, LL.

Technology challenges are no less daunting. Consistently and accurately extruding a productCbasically, cramming a hot, doughy mixture of plastic and wood through a specially shaped openingCis hard enough. Co-extrusionCpouring a syrupy plastic shell over the inner core in such a way that it bonds exactly where you want at exactly the right thicknessCis an added challenge that manufacturers didn't feel comfortable producing commercially until a few years ago.

"It's not a highly repeatable process," says Tom Gramlich, chief operating officer of TimberTech, which makes composite and PVC decks, porches, railing, and trim. "Every night, our operator is fighting a different set of circumstances than the night before."

You can tell how tricky a business this is through the scrappage rate: Industry-wide, manufacturers say, roughly one-eighth of what's produced gets rejected before it ever leaves the factory.

Production techniques also matter. For instance, take the debate over using Celuka. . It's an option used for PVC products that gives the outside of what's extruded an extra-hard surface. Gossen Corp. particularly likes this method when it needs to make sure the object produced meets tight specifications, such as replacement window trim. Jackson Chen of Inteplast, maker of Tufboard products and CEVN decking, shows off his Celuka products by knocking dents into trim made using the freefoam process.

Versatex president John Pace isn't impressed, particularly since his company's goal is to make a product that cuts and nails like wood. "You're trying to make trim, not a brick," he says. "To me, that (Celuka trim) isn't wood."
