Dear Current Administrators of TBA, Stop erasing posts and topics. All of you. As a regular of TBA who loved it dearly, you have no idea how much it kills me that so many topics were left to the trash without member consent. And it wasn't just drama posts -some of you deleted any post that you didn't like, from roleplays, from anything...you deleted the entirety of A Very Potter Roleplay, as an example. As the creator of that roleplay, I realize it was somewhat of a failure, but the fact that it was erased without my consent is upsetting, and there were a few members who enjoyed it. I realize that there were some things posted on TBA that many of us are not proud of. Drama and the like. But even with that drama, TBA was so, so, important to me, and others. Yet, certain moderators have ignored this and have erased topic upon topic -that showed in the Administrator history. Even if you say it was only a single topic or a single post, the forum has been trimmed down. You say this is only "cleaning up the forum," but it's erasing our history, and I won't stand for it. To those of you who've returned to this forum only to remove things periodically, please stop. It simply isn't fair to those of us who are nostalgic and like looking back, and I know I don't speak of myself alone. With all due respect, LL.

Mahogany, teak and ipe all have their pros and cons. While beautiful and long lasting, mahogany is extremely pricey. For a large decking job, it will increase the cost significantly. Environmentalists question the reliability of claims that mahogany shipped to the U.S. is logged legally.

"We look at the FSC (Forestry Stewardship Council) with a jaundiced eye," says Tim. Teak is preferred for its beauty and durability, and comes from South America and Mexico, where it is not considered a native plant and is plantation grown. Previously, teak came from Southeast Asia into the U.S.

Ipe is a natural hardwood used in the 1960s for boardwalks at Coney Island, N.Y., and in the 1980s in Atlantic City, N.J. According to Tim, it is illegally logged from old-growth forests in South America and is not environmentally sustainable, although deck builders do use it.

"Ipe is stamped as coming from managed forests and not taken from natural habitats," says Gordon. "It is one of the strongest, affordable hardwoods and is mildew and termite resistant." Its smooth finish and tight grain means no splinters, but its hardness makes it difficult to work with and therefore drives up labor costs.
