It's time movie studios give up the idea of having toys be part of there movie franchise. Why? well I seen the Green Lantern toys from the movie just sit thier since the movie came out. At wal-mart, and sit there for months nobody buys these type of toys anymore. They are now $3.00 a piece at wal-mart and 99 cents at 99 cent stores probably will be at dollar tree and dollar general soon so will Captain America and Thor. I remember in the old days. When toys were selling well and dead stock all these were sent to KB toys. Now no KB toys. now what happens? |

They got too slick for themselves, and decided what would be huge/toy-worthy before the film even comes out. Often enough they are wrong about the popularity and demand for toy spinoffs and the figures will sit there. Green Lantern is an excellent example! I am not sure it matters to them a whole lot though. I suspect they see the toys as a piece of advertising, not an actual fun thing for kids to enjoy for years. The MOST important thing is probably that the toys are visible and eye-catching on store shelves a month or two before the film hits, so the kids will be jazzed on it and beg their parents to go to the theater. Sure, the toy designers do their thing (such as it is in today's business) and probably think they are making cool toys, but I think the big picture is: toys don't matter beyond getting kids hyper-excited leading up to a film (and then hanging around long enough, maybe even with a new wave in stores, in time for the DVD release.) We are seeing a loss in design and craftsmanship in many ways, but it seems like such things are not needed, especially with the tie-in toys - which, let's face it, is almost all of what's out there now. |

Avengers toys will tank. There were no John Carter toys hmmmm..... I still have false hope for something good to look at at the Toy section at Wal-mart. But, I walk way disappointed. |

Well, I am a GI Joe fan and after some lean times at stores lately we will likely see an explosion soon of the new movie-based toys. Problem is, they are all brightly colored, ugly stuff! Hasbro has done a number on the Joe fans this time around, doing away with some of the things we have always loved about the line, even the file cards on the package are gone.
