I'm not going to give it too much thought until I see how the section realignments play out, but if things stay as they are then I'd say Sibley East, LCWM, BOLD, Le Sueur, and River Valley all look pretty good. Lake Crystal probably lost the most, but they still have a lot coming back. But I'd look at either BOLD or Le Sueur as the favorites, in a very close section again. That is if things stay the same again.

not to start a fight but how can you say LCWM lost the most they graduated three seniors and there underclassmen are all really young and improving a great deal they will better next year then this year. from 140-189 they are going to be tough to beat and dont forget there lower weights they only lost yarger mcmonagle and colin. and the experience they got from going to state is unreplaceable. look for them to place next year and the way se wrestled at state they will right there to challange them. but lets wait to see where section realignments put teams and you never know where jobs will take familys these days. with this economy no telling what will happen.

So I meant to include LCWM as one of, if not the favorite next year. However, I stand by the statement that they did lose the most to graduation. This is mostly because there were not a lot of seniors graduating from the tops teams this year. Obviously losing Sundermann hurts LSH, but I don't think they lose anyone else. I'm not sure if Sibley East really loses anyone, BOLD only loses a couple, and River Valley only loses two I think. So I was in know way knocking the wrestlers that LCWM is bringing back, they are going to be very tough. I was just saying that they lose three really good wrestlers, and I don't think any of the other top teams in the section are going to lose three wrestlers of that caliber. Having said that, there also might not be any team in the section bringing back that many good wrestlers either.

Okay... here's a shoutout to all the great wrestlers in Section 4A. The Mental Aerobics tourney which will be held in Rochester still has openings. They are especially in need of kids at 171 and 215 (the brackets with the most kids are currently 119-125, so if you are in that range but are willing to bump up if needed, please make a note on your application.)

The link for the application is on the other thread titled Mental Aerobics Tournament. Applications are due tomorrow. There WILL be kids in this with .500 records, some big dogs, you name it. This fundraising tournament is open to EVeRYBODY and would be a great chance to show the strength and character of Section 4.

So I was trying to talk Eric McMonagle into this from our team -- so how about the other half of the cousins? Tyler M. You out there? I hear 215 calling ya? Anyone else? Let's step to the plate.

From MTML I know that both Cooling boys, Bryce Andrews, and Tyler Thoeny were definitely interested (as is Tyler Ardolf). Haven't heard for sure on Tucker (he went last year) or what Eric is thinking. Last year LeSueur had a TON of kids there, plus I know other teams from the Section were represented. Wouldn't it be cool if the Outstanding Wrestler Award went to someone from 4A? Who's it gonna be?

Who else is out there that isn't in the running for a championship but just wants to help a good cause. It doesn't matter what your record was!!!! This year's proceeds will be going to a great cause. A 16-year-old wrestler from Watertown was involved in a car crash in August. He was a passenger in the front seat, wearing his seat belt. The driver lost control and smashed into a tree. He suffered a traumatic brain injury and ended up in a wheelchair. The young man's best friend was killed in the accident.

So I ask you to think about yourselves. Count your blessings. And then search inside to see if you might be willing to step up and compete in this fundraising tourney to help another wrestler in his time of need. If you have questions, send me a PM or ask them on the Mental Aerobics thread or give me a call, 507-236-3493 (Vickie Greiner).

Last year the proceeds went to the Eldred Bach family from Section 4. Now it's our turn to help out others. I hope to see you there!!

Link to Mental Aerobics website

To ANYONE who is interested in the Mental Aerobics (M/A) Tournament. Go to the link listed here. In blue lettering you will find "2009 Mental Aerobics Championship Invitational Application." Click on that and print out the application. Fill it out as best you can. Don't worry if you don't know all the exact details on career falls, records, etc. That information is helpful for seeding purposes and for the press release, but it's not absolutely required, so don't get shook up if you don't know all your stats.

Feel free to list Conference and Section placings, tournament finishes, and mention if you've beat any ranked kids, stuff like that.

Don't worry if you've never been ranked or you've never beat a ranked kid -- that doesn't matter! At this point, the goal is just to fill the tournament up and raise more funds for a wrestling family in need.

We don't make any money off the concessions at Rochester, so Unit encourages anyone who wants to bring a big cooler with food/refreshments and keep it in your car (bring a small cooler to take into the gym with you.) That is not a problem!

Because of the time frame, PLEASE FAX (instead of mail your applications in at this point). The FAX Number is:

Fax@ 507.754.7280

You will get a phone call back telling you that you are "in" and how to submit your acceptance form and entry fee. The weights that have the most competitors right now are 119/125, so if you're able to bump to 130 put that on the application.

Another thing I didn't mention earlier is they will be having a "Hands Across the Mat" competition this year in which wrestlers can show us how well they can walk on their hands. Just a ton of fun! That's what you can expect.

Any questions -- give me a call or send a PM!!

Lastly, let me clarify one last time -- this is open to all of you! Doesn't matter if you went to state or not. You do NOT have to wrestle at your Section weight. Just pick your weight and come have fun! There will be a 98-pound bracket and those kids must make scratch weight (weigh 98.0 or less). All the other brackets get a five-pound allowance (Ex. 160 = 165.0 or less).

Looking at the new section we lose BOLD, Redwood Valley, and RRC/WWG to section 3, and gain Trinity School at River Ridge, Minneapolis Washburn, and Minneapolis Roosevelt. I can't imagine that BOLD is very happy about being pulled into possibly the toughest section in Class A, but they have the wrestlers to be competive. I wish them the best of luck. Anyone know much about the three schools we gained?

I agree with you to a point. I think the top four teams in this section are still really tough. BOLD is a very good team, and their leaving does make it easier, but its not like BOLD was a lock to win the section next year. Section 4 will still be strong, just not as strong as they were with BOLD, and no where near as tough as section 3.

How in the world do two Minneapolis schools get thrown into a South/Southwestern Minnesota section??? What is the rationale for this decision? Why not a closer single A section...something along the I-35W corridor? It would make more sense to move any number of schools (i.e. Maple River, Blue Earth, USC) to Section 4A rather than two metro schools.

I would agree with chickyfat, but sometimes common sense doesn't play a roll in the section assignments. I know that free and reduced lunches play a major roll in the figuring of student numbers, but come on, can a metro school really be Class A.

The topic of eliminating students who receive free/reduced lunches is a whole other topic as far as I'm concerned....I don't understand the rationale for that either. But I really am referring as much to geography as enrollment numbers. For instance, if St. James (the school in 4A farthest away from Mpls....I think) would like to put either Minneapolis school on their schedule for next year, think about the driving time (and cost) as well as the late arrival time back home for the wrestlers.

I too am cofussed by putting the two mlps schools in. my understanding was that it was divided by geographic region. it will be interesting to see where sections will be heald next yr. like someone else said a long distance between St. james and mlps. anybody know anything about those two minneapolis teams?

Had to leave the MA tourney early and all brackets are not updated yet. Not quite sure how everyone did, but what a great thing for these guys to be a part of. VERY tough wrestling today. Just looking at the brackets when we got there was OVERWHELMING!!! Thanks to all of you that showed up and represented our section!

I'm kind of curious how the wrestlers or coaches from Minneapolis Washburn and Roosevelt feel about this. It's pretty apparent that most of us are a little confused by this move, but I really have no problem with it. But I'd interested to hear from some wrestlers or coaches from these new teams to the section.
