Hi everyone,

I am checking in from St. Louis and hope to provide updates, news and information about Minnesota wrestling when I can. I'll keep track of the matches and report back what I see, hear and observe. I'm in the right corner on press row so I hope the Gophers are competing near where we are seated. Behind us is a plethora of Nebraska fans, and to the other side is the Oklahoma State crew. The Penn State radio guy is next to me as well as Wrestling 411. Penn State just got a pin from Brad Pataky so they are excited.

Action is heating up...

Yeah...it's nice to see him getting knocked off as it opens things up some for Ness.

I see Ness in the semis now. Kennedy gives Ness fits so thats huge.

Iowa’s Charlie Falck was dominant in a 10-3 win over Derek Reber of Bucknell. Falck secured 2:01 of riding time in the first period and led 6-1 after one period. He secured 4:16 of riding time total.

Sanders is coming up now right on the same mat. Two mats in front of me. The Iowa contingent is in the same corner Sanders is wrestling, so the fans will be against him.

Sanders defeated Ivanco 13-6. He really took control in the third period. He was leading 2-1 (3-1 with riding time) heading into the third, but just took over in the third. Nice match for the first NCAA match in his career.

Jayson Ness defeated Connor Beebe of Central Michigan 8-1. Ness led 2-0 going into third, looked dominant, strong on top, 2:46 of riding time going into second period, 5:07 total.

This match seemed like it was going on forever but Ness was never in doubt of even being scored on until very late.

Other 133-pound notes:

Daniel Dennis of Iowa squeaked out a 5-4 win scoring a point on the edge of the mat that shouldn’t have been called. Reece Humphrey of Ohio State just got a pin in 12 seconds.

Nice start for Sanders and Ness. Both doing what they do best...Sanders wearing guys out and pounding them in the 3rd and Ness grinding guys into the mat. Hopefully the guys can keep it up! Thanks for the updates and analysis.

Unfortunately IA did what it does best too...whining until the ref gives them a crappy stall call.

It was a fleeing the mat call and the guys on TDR made it sound like it was a bad call. They certainly didn't agree with it.

Thorn wrestling now, have about the worst view possible for this match. He’s on far left end so may be tough to report much other than score.

Match going on in front of me now, Pataky of Penn State vs. Nicholson from Old Dominion. Pataky is unseeded, Nicholson the #6 seed. Sanders faces winner. Nicholson up 10-4 right now. Nicholson is from Des Moines, Iowa and a talented wrestler. Either way, Sanders will have a tough draw in round two.
