Oh that is priceless...
I was going to complain about how little the idiots know having Minnesota rated so low until I saw that Michigan is ranked below Central Michigan. That is a rarity I am sure. Ah what the heck, Minnesota the 9th best team in the big ten? these yahoo's are nuts! Last year we made a bowl game with a just barely started to get better team and now we will be even better. I hope these guys eat their words!!! |

Gopher Nation has a pretty tough schedule this year, but I also believe there will be vast improvement on the defensive side of the ball. The offense will be very very tough. |

We will have to be more than one dementional this year then. Eric Decker got beated up pretty bad by the end of last season because of the load he carried. I am excited for the season though. I am promised tickets to the Wisconson game. Is Sam Maresh able to play now? He is a strong kid after being told he wont play football ever again. I hope they give me a reason to join the "Brew Crew" this year. |

Central Michigan should be pretty tough with that LeFevour kid at QB. He will get a look at the next level. Maresh played in the spring game and I thought he played well considering he has pain in that ankle / calf (can't remember). I thought it appeared as though he was walking with a slight limp with it. I think the Gophers will be allowed to have a little more versatility with Carpenter opposite Decker, Stoudamire in a slot, and then mix a little Marques Gray (insert in any position) and you've given your offense a shot a creating mismatches in space............something they have been in woeful need of in the last 2 seasons. We are starting to build depth in our 2 deep roster. We need that to continue getting better talent in while DEVELOPING and IMPROVING players we have (see Ferentz model of development). I am looking forward to the season for the Gophers. The first 2 games at home will be good barometers to see how much they have to improve upon. Air Force will throw a look that you can't simulate in practice and Cal is a good team with that Best kid carrying the rock. Also looking forward to TDM's Gators chalking up 60+ on Lane Kiffin. TDM will have to give us an Over/Under on that one prior to the game  BCS is the Gators to lose (if they remain healthy). Their entire 2-deep Defense is back (I believe). And that defense was downright scary last year. USC QB Barclay will be fun to follow to see if he is as good as advertised or a flop. Plan on the usual complaints again this season as Boise State will probably run the table after 1 tough game early on. Buck |

Agree on LeFevour and Central Michigan. That kid is a STUD. I am also very excited for the Gators vs Tennessee game. And yes, I will give you an Over/Under prior to the game. The BCS is the Gators to lose just like you said. You are correct on the defense. The entire unit is back 2 deep and some spots 3 deep. Best defense in the Nation hands down. I'm pumped for the season to start!! |

TDM, you may have to hide under a rock for a while in the Gators dont march. The d-backfield last year was NFL caliber. This is the best d in the nation without doubt, possibly the most talented defense ever (92 bama was pretty good). You couple this with returning the best college football player of my lifetime (who's also the ultimate alpha-male) leading the way and this spells disaster for the college football world. As tough as the SEC is, I really think Florida is gonna roll BIG! However, I won't be cheering for them. How in the world does Texas or espicially Oklahoma get any votes for #1?? If I'm Bob Stoops I'm voting Florida or I'm lying to myself. |

I was thinking the same thing. How does anyone not vote for the returning national champs as #1 when they return virtually everyone? Okla and Texas will be good but I just don't see Florida losing next year unless Tebow breaks his legs or if Jevon Snead continues to grow into the incredible QB that he is. I like that kid and how he plays the game. Lefevour from CMU is tough. Talk about Tim Tebow ... LeFevoure is one of only two MAC QB's to ever rush for like 3000 yards and pass for over 10,000 in a career and he still have a year left. Gritty kid and if he was on a team like USC or Bama he would be right up there with the Top QB's of the draft. I think there might be 5 + QB's taken in the first round next year: Not in any definable order: Sam Bradford Colt McCoy Jevon Snead Dan LeFevoure Tim Tebow There are a few more that have stud written all over them. It is a QB rich draft next year and that is what the Vikes need. |

Gators grab most first-place votes EVER as AP's preseason No. 1 NEW YORK -- As Tim Tebow and the Florida Gators prepare to make a run at their third national title in the last four seasons, the defending champions have already made some history. Florida is No. 1 in the Associated Press' preseason Top 25 released Saturday, followed by Texas, Oklahoma, Southern California and Alabama. But the Gators are in a class by themselves, the most overwhelming preseason No. 1 in the history of the media poll. Florida received 58 of the 60 first-place votes, or 96.7 percent. Texas got the other first-place votes. The previous highest percentage of first-place votes for the AP preseason poll, which started in 1950, was 95.4 percent for USC in 2007. Those Trojans got 62 of 65 first-place votes -- and didn't play for the national title. Ten preseason No. 1s have won the national championship. If the Gators can become the 11th, they will have put together one of the great runs in college football history. Only one program since 1950 can claim three national championships in four years; Nebraska won it all it 1994 and 1995, then earned a split title in 1997. With expectations soaring in Gainesville, Fla., coach Urban Meyer has been on a mission to keep his team's eyes on the small prizes -- to heck with history. "There's a lot of guys getting patted on the back and being told how good they are," Meyer said in a recent telephone interview. "Their only focus is on survival to the next day and working hard in practice. "I don't want them to even think about that kind of stuff. Our goal is to get to Atlanta" for the Southeastern Conference championship game. The rest of the top 10 includes two Big Ten powerhouses (No. 6 Ohio State and No. 9 Penn State) and the defending Atlantic Coast Conference champion (No. 7 Virginia Tech). No. 8 Mississippi is in the preseason top 10 for the first time since 1970, when the Rebels were ranked fifth. Oklahoma State is tied with Penn State for No. 9, the Cowboys' highest preseason ranking since No. 16 in 1985, when Thurman Thomas was in the backfield. Florida is preseason No. 1 for the third time (1994 and 2001), and the Gators are the 20th defending national champ to start the season on top. From the moment Florida wrapped up its 24-14 victory over Oklahoma in the BCS championship game in January, talk of a repeat started. And when Tebow a few days later announced at a rally on campus celebrating the national title that he would come back for his senior year, there was no doubt the Gators would be the runaway preseason No. 1. Florida's rugged, multidimensional quarterback won the Heisman Trophy in 2007 and finished third behind Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford and Texas quarterback Colt McCoy last year. As good as Tebow is -- he has a chance to end his career as the most decorated player in college footbal history with three national title rings and two Heismans -- Meyer sees areas for improvement. "I'd say in the passing game he can certainly improve some things," Meyer said. "Leadership-wise he used to get angry when he felt other guys weren't working as hard as he was. Now he gets those players to play at that level." While Tebow leads an offense with plenty of speedy gamebreakers, All-American linebacker Brandon Spikes -- another guy who passed on a chance to enter the NFL Draft to return for his senior season -- leads a defense that has potential to be the best in the country. All 22 players on the defensive depth chart for the BCS title game are back. Among the standouts are defensive end Carlos Dunlap and cornerback Janoris Jenkins and Joe Haden. All that experience will allow defensive coordinator Charlie Strong to good deep into his playbook. "Our defense has been installed at a much greater pace than ever before," Meyer said. "That allows you to put in a lot more different packages, three down (linemen) and four down." The Gators are one of five SEC teams ranked in the Top 25, matching the Big 12 for the most from any conference. Joining Florida, Alabama and Ole Miss are LSU at No. 11 and Georgia at No. 13. No. 23 Nebraska and No. 25 Kansas are the other Big 12 teams, along with Texas, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. Utah, which finished No. 2 last season and was the only undefeated team in major college football, is ranked 19th to start this season. But the Utes aren't even the highest ranked team from the Mountain West Conference. That distinction belongs to No. 17 TCU, while No. 20 BYU gives the MWC three ranked teams to start the season, as many as the Big Ten and Pac-10 and three more than the Big East, which was shut out. No. 14 Boise State is the highest ranked team from a conference that does not automatically qualify for the Bowl Championship Series. The Broncos, the champions of the Western Athletic Conference, play the season's first big game, facing No. 16 Oregon on Sept. 3. Notre Dame is back in the rankings for the first time since the final poll of the 2006 season. The Fighting Irish, coming off a 7-6 season, are No. 23. 1. Florida (58) 2. Texas (2) 3. Oklahoma 4. USC 5. Alabama 6. Ohio State 7. Virginia Tech 8. Mississippi 9. Oklahoma State 9. Penn State 11. LSU 12. California 13. Georgia 14. Boise State 15. Georgia Tech 16. Oregon 17. TCU 18. Florida State 19. Utah 20. Brigham Young 21. North Carolina 22. Iowa 23. Notre Dame 24. Nebraska 25. GAINESVILLE -- Florida Gators freshman receiver Andre Debose could miss significant time this season because of the possibility of a torn hamstring tendon, according to coach Urban Meyer. ``We found out there is some damage to his hamstring,'' Meyer said. ``It doesn't happen very often. It's a tendon, and we're going to evaluate the significance of it. ``It's a real injury. We were worried it was just a tight hamstring, a hamstring pull or a hamstring strain.'' Debose is a former five-star recruit who was considered one of the best receiver prospects in the country last year. He played for Sanford Seminole and led the team to a Class 6A state championship, defeating Miami Northwestern in the final minutes with an acrobatic touchdown reception. Debose later received a high school ESPY Award for a touchdown reception during a nationally televised postseason all-star game. On National Signing Day, Meyer compared Debose to former Gator Percy Harvin. Meyer had hoped that Debose could contribute at slot receiver this season, but that option seems to be growing increasingly doubtful. Meyer suggested Saturday that the injury occured at the beginning of the summer, during the Florida High School Athletic Association state track meet. ``There's possibly a torn tendon,'' Meyer said. ``I just found this out last night. It's not a common injury. It must have happened in that state track meet. A lot of times you don't MRI hamstrings, you just heal them and get going.'' Meyer said he will know the full extent of the injury on Monday. Whatever the news, Debose is doubtful for the Gators' season opener against Charleston Southern on Sept. 5. Senior receiver Carl Moore, who sustained a back injury this summer, also is doubtful. Florida's projected starting receivers are senior Riley Cooper, redshirt sophomore Deonte Thompson, redshirt senior David Nelson and senior Brandon James, the Gators' All-American kick-return specialist. |

Can't forget about South Carolina vs. North Carolina State on ESPN! National championship odds: MSU 75-1, Michigan 150-1 The Detroit News Who is the favorite among Big Ten teams to win the national championship? According to Las Vegas Sports Consultants, it's Ohio State, at 12-1. No surprise there. What might be surprising to Big Ten backers, though, is that there are only two conference teams among the top 30. Penn State, at 30-1, is the other. Big Ten teams outside the top 30 are Michigan State and Illinois at 75-1, Iowa and Wisconsin at 100-1, and Michigan, Minnesota and Purdue at 150-1. Odds were not provided for Northwestern or Indiana. Here are the favorites: Florida, 2-1 Oklahoma, 9-2 Texas, 11-2 Southern California, 6-1 Ohio State, 12-1 Alabama, 15-1 Louisiana State, 20-1 Virginia Tech, 20-1 Mississippi, 25-1 Penn State, 30-1 Oklahoma State, 30-1 Notre Dame, 30-1 |

While I agree that they jaw to much the reason he turned his head was because one of his coaches was right there addressing him. He should look to his coach when they speak. For Blount to throw a punch after the looked away in front of the opposing teams coaches is unheard of. Oregon will show its true colors here in the next couple of days. |

Blount doesn't deserve that long of a suspension and Hout should get the same amount of time. I feel a couple of games would be right for both. If rubbing someone's nose in defeat and then rapping him on the shoulder pads isn't trying to provoke an altercation, I don't know what is. Back in the day you ran your mouth like that you could expect a rap in the mush, funny he didn't start to cry! Even the wuss MLB doesn't suspend their players that long for fighting and the NHL hires guys for just that purpose. |
