Only posting this as the flier has been sent to the Guillotine and should be on the tournament page soon. There's been a nice debate going on related to youth tournament awards here. Several suggestions were made about awards/no awards and perhaps donating to a food shelf (Heavyweightdad). Suggestions on other topics have included how long periods should be, and how many wrestlers per bracket. Well, we decided to do something about it. The Byron Early Bird tournament on Sunday, December 13 will be offering: $2 off wrestler registration if the wrestler brings in three food items to donate to Channel One Food Shelf. More details will be on the flier. K-2 Four man round robin brackets with t-shirts for all wrestlers. 3-4 SIX man round robin brackets. T-shirts for 1st & 2nd, medals for 3rd through 6th. 3rd & 4th graders will be combined for bracketing purposes. 5-6 SIX man round robin brackets. 1-1/2 minute periods. T-shirts for only 1st & 2nd place. 5th & 6th graders will be combined for bracketing purposes. Weigh-ins and start time have been pushed back a couple hours from previous years to accommodate those who would like to go to church on Sunday morning. This is a chance for wrestlers to get in plenty of matches, not clutter up their bedrooms with tons of trophies, have some great competition, and do some good for those less fortunate. We would LOVE to have everyone only pay $10 to wrestle and flood Channel One with food donations! |

Chris, Once again you guys in Byron are doing it up right and listening to people and offering up something different. This couldn't be a better idea. What an unbelievable example you are setting and I only hope that more clubs follow this lead in the right direction. Hats off to you guys! |

Wow, this forum thing does work sometimes. Good job Byron! Thanks for posting Chenn. Something different that I would not have known if I did not read it here. I may have passsed this over originally as our club has another one they want to attend. I'll bring this to their attention. There are a few closer to home but we will travel to Byron on that weekend. Thanks. |
