50th anniversary of high school wrestling in Jackson County The Jackson Blue Jays began practice in November of 1959. The Blue Jays were followed to the mat by the Lakefield Panthers, the paired and shared programs of the Heron Lake-Okabena-Lakefield Silver Bullets and HLOL/Jackson Jaguars and now the Jackson County Central Huskies. The annual Jackson County Wrestling Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be on Thursday, Dec. 10 when the Huskies host a Southwest Conference dual against Pipestone. The schedule for that night calls for activity to start at 4:45 p.m. outside the JCC Performing Arts Center with coffee, lemonade and bars being served. Proceeds go to the Hall of Fame project. This year’s class will be inducted at a ceremony that stars at 5:30. Also, Hall of Fame members in attendance will be recognized, as will teams that have qualified for state tournaments and any state tournament entrant or state champion in attendance. A meal will be served in the JCC High School Commons from 5-7:30 p.m., with pork sandwiches, beans, chips and a beverage being served. All Hall of Fame members, the state championship teams and individual state champions will be recognized between the JV and varsity duals. Anyone who has wrestled in Jackson County is encouraged to attend the match that night and you will also be recognized. T-shirts will be sold during the evening. A social will follow at Pillars in downtown Jackson. Anyone with a memory to share of wrestling in Jackson County is encouraged to send coach Randy Baker an email at Randy_Baker@jccschools.com. |
