101 Whys I Love the Philippines
Posted by helen (Members) at Oct 23 2009, 10:36 PM. 0 comments
There are times we forget to pause for a while and think it over.
After all these times. After all these years.
After almost all your relatives and friends have gone out of the country.
We still opted to stay.
Others will think since we can work abroad.
We can easily apply for any job somewhere else receiving dollars
more than we are earning but we're still here.
But you see, one has to be truly pure
in order to see the true essence of happiness
and the real meaning of life.
And living in the Philippines
can be like marriage -
mahirap pero masarap.
It's hard but it's sweet.
In starting this topic, I hope more will share what positive they can see
in the Philippines - the Pinoys - their values, their virtues, simple resiliency.
the environment -the nature, the beaches, the smiles
Any experiences to share to outshine our beloved country.
Other foreigners cannot understand why
despite our hardships
they can still see children in squatters give a big smile
whenever they're taken a picture.
I will start a few - I love the Philippines because...
1) I am blessed with great sisters-in-law.
My brother resides in Hongkong, our eldest sister and mother in the U.S,
my younger sister is in Canada. So practically I am left here in Pinas.
I have been taken care of by my sisters-in-law and they treated me as family.
Or else how can I survive?
2) I am blessed with friends.
Our friends come from all walks of life. And me and my husband treat them equally.
As for me good friends are those with good influences.
We have friends who are carpenters and tricycle drivers.
And yet they are the ones who come to our rescue
When our house is flooded due to typhoon Ondoy.
3) I visited Bohol and it's one of the many beautiful places and beaches you won't regret visiting!!
God has truly blessed our country with beautiful nature!!!
4) Ang Pinoy sanay magtiis (Pinoys are used to suffer)
So we are not that complaining and wailing when we have problems.
5) And most of all.. Pinoys always pray...
There is prayer before meals, there is Angelus at 6pm, there is the Sunday mass
We have fiestas (feastday of Saints), and somehow God is always in their hearts.
That is why God loves the Philippines - we always pray to God..
How about you?
Do you have your share of whys?

How about live in?
Posted by helen (Members) at Aug 27 2009, 09:32 PM. One comment
So can we talk about live-in?
In the U.S. it's prevalent.
It's normal
Here in the Philippines, let's face it.
Only those who can affort it get married.
What are the hindrances of getting married?
Or the next option is civil marriage.
But let us clarify the issue of a man and a woman living together as husband and wife.
What's the difference live-in and being married?
Some may not feel it.
Many opted to plan to have a house and a car.
But planning for a wedding...
For them it's an expensive event that's why it is delayed.
First, marriage is not only between the two
the guy and th girl.
When we feel love- for sure it came from God.
So it's but natural that God should be the center in the relationship.
It may sound superficial.
But, don't you think we all need God's blessing in marriage?
Our relationship is blessed if there is a spiritual rite.
Second, it is sacred because each one says his/her vow.
Just like priest, there is a vow.
So we respect the depth of the vow.
There is commitment.
Live-in put away the commitment and it puts away God between them.
It just unfortunate when live-in partners go through rough times they walk away.
But observe those married in Church they withstand the test of time.
There's no such thing as Mr. Right or Ms. Right.
You will make him/her RIGHT for you.
Remember no one is perfect.

How do religious images serve one's Faith?

In a locked thread on "Why do Catholics pray to images?", I wanted to make the following post.
ST_JB wrote:
I agree with ST. I've argued many times with non-Catholics about praying to saints, images, the Holy Mother etc.
The common error is that One is praying TO THE IMAGE. We are praying to God we ask the intercession of a particular person who was known to have lived a very God Led Spirit-led life. Enough so as to have been officially recognized by the Church (Catholic) as a person whose life was devoted to serving God usually by serving their brethren. (What you do for the least of my brethren you do for me.)
I've explained that the images Pictures or statues often serve the purpose of getting one into a reflective, prayerful, God respectful state of mind, in which one's prayer s more completely heartfelt, unifying body, mind and spirit into a state of spiritual unity of "being." To say it more commonly, "Images serve to get one into the mood of prayer." They always insist you are praying to the images, not recognizing the fact you are praying to God.

1192 Sacred images in our churches and homes are intended to awaken and nourish our faith in the mystery of Christ. Through the icon of Christ and his works of salvation, it is he whom we adore. Through sacred images of the holy Mother of God, of the angels and of the saints, we venerate the persons represented.

1161 All the signs in the liturgical celebrations are related to Christ: as are sacred images of the holy Mother of God and of the saints as well. They truly signify Christ, who is glorified in them. They make manifest the "cloud of witnesses" who continue to participate in the salvation of the world and to whom we are united, above all in sacramental celebrations. Through their icons, it is man "in the image of God," finally transfigured "into his likeness," who is revealed to our faith. So too are the angels, who also are recapitulated in Christ:
Following the divinely inspired teaching of our holy Fathers and the tradition of the Catholic Church (for we know that this tradition comes from the Holy Spirit who dwells in her) we rightly define with full certainty and correctness that, like the figure of the precious and life-giving cross, venerable and holy images of our Lord and God and Savior, Jesus Christ, our inviolate Lady, the holy Mother of God, and the venerated angels, all the saints and the just, whether painted or made of mosaic or another suitable material, are to be exhibited in the holy churches of God, on sacred vessels and vestments, walls and panels, in houses and on streets.
