Thus, we see that Mary was, so to speak, "at home" with God's word, she lived on God's word, she was penetrated by God's word. To the extent that she spoke with God's words, she thought with God's words, her thoughts were God's thoughts, her words, God's words. She was penetrated by divine light and this is why she was so resplendent, so good, so radiant with love and goodness. - Homily Pope Benedict XVI on the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, August 16, 2005 at the parish church of Castelgandalfo, Italy

As per request:

Vatican astronomer says if aliens exist, they may not need redemption

VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- If aliens exist, they may be a different life form that does not need Christ's redemption, the Vatican's chief astronomer said.

Jesuit Father Jose Funes, director of the Vatican Observatory, said Christians should consider alien life as an "extraterrestrial brother" and a part of God's creation.

Father Funes, an Argentine named to his position by Pope Benedict XVI in 2006, made the remarks in an interview published May 13 by the Vatican newspaper, L'Osservatore Romano.

Father Funes said it was difficult to exclude the possibility that other intelligent life exists in the universe, and he noted that one field of astronomy is now actively seeking "biomarkers" in spectrum analysis of other stars and planets.

These potential forms of life could include those that have no need of oxygen or hydrogen, he said. Just as God created multiple forms of life on earth, he said, there may be diverse forms throughout the universe.

"This is not in contrast with the faith, because we cannot place limits on the creative freedom of God," he said.

"To use St. Francis' words, if we consider earthly creatures as 'brothers' and 'sisters,' why can't we also speak of an 'extraterrestrial brother?'" he said.

Asked about implications that the discovery of alien life might pose for Christian redemption, Father Funes cited the Gospel parable of the shepherd who left his flock of 99 sheep in order to search for the one that was lost.

"We who belong to the human race could really be that lost sheep, the sinners who need a pastor," he said.

"God became man in Jesus in order to save us. So if there are also other intelligent beings, it's not a given that they need redemption. They might have remained in full friendship with their creator," he said.

Father Funes went on to say that Christ's incarnation and sacrifice was a unique and unrepeatable event. But he said he was sure that, if needed, God's mercy would be offered to aliens, as it was to humans.

On another topic, the priest said he saw no real contradiction between evolutionary science and the Christian faith, as long as evolution does not become an absolute ideology.

"As an astronomer, I can say that from the observation of stars and galaxies there emerges a clear evolutionary process," he said.

He said that in his opinion the big-bang theory remains the best explanation of the origin of the universe from a scientific point of view. Above all, it's a reasonable explanation, he said.

As for the biblical account of creation, Father Funes said it was wrong to expect a scientific explanation from the Bible.

"The Bible is not fundamentally a work of science," he said. "It is a letter of love that God has written to his people, in a language that was used 2,000-3,000 years ago. Obviously, at that time a concept like the big bang was totally extraneous."

He said he was convinced that astronomy was a science that can open people's minds and hearts and bring them closer to God. The idea that astronomy leads to an atheistic view of the universe is a myth, he said.

In my not so humble opinion on this matter:

I do believe that aliens exist and if they interfere with the Big Bang Theory, with the grand design of how the universe should go on its course without the permission or against God's plan, then for me,
they are part of the fallen ones who wish to sabotage man's ultimate goal: TO BE BROUGHT BACK TO GOD, THE CREATOR AND FATHER. If they were once part of that divine beatitude it is painful beyond relief and even of our deepest imagination, to be separated from the CREATOR. That alone, is punishment that is beyond relief. If we have a part of God in us, and we were punished to be separated from Him for eternity, how can we imagine that "pain" that relentless restlessness and "unpeace"? It is definitely not just a discomfort, to lose your heart, your core, your being, the very essence of your soul's divinity and connection with your maker is pain beyond relief. To know, that this pain beyond relief is also eternity, what to do now? Some of them, joined the great rebel who brought them down here in eternal darkness. However, some of them still did not lose hope. Some rebelled also from their rebel leader. Established small dynasties and micro-organizations of themselves, which I believe are all the "enkantos, the third kind".... While some, contented themselves to be bystanders for now, awaiting the dawn of this "new" creation--mankind and what will happen to it. However, some of their colleagues, continually resolved to bring mankind down with them because of the fact that GOD loved us more than them--His very first creations---light. So, now, why not bring the whole human race down with them? Isn't it the ultimate triumph of their doom? If they were doomed to such extent, why can't/aren't we? If we continually sin and hurt God repeatedly, (and to sum all those sins up would not even equate to their rebellion but more than what they ever did in the first place) why aren't we doomed like them? Why didn't we suffer the same fate as theirs? Isn't God so unfair to them and very partial to us, humans? For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son....(John 3:16) is a very painful reminder to them of how they stand amongst all God's creation.... He even issued humans to be caretakers of all living things...While they, what of them? Where should they be after all these has happened? They weren't privy to God's grand design of course, that's what made Lucifer rebel against God the Father in the first place. He was tasked to do something which to his pride, was too low for his estate... So, he rebelled and got eternal damnation as punishment....which, to top it onto his pride, was even more unfair--to highest level. So now, what he does is continually wreak havoc on all God's creation. Make them as ugly as what He is now....Not physically...But so ugly that he'll wait and see whether God who loves these creation so much, will still love them if they all look like me in his sight. If they all act and do my bidding. I dunno if anyone here has ever read or hear or came across the so-called motto of his human subjects:" To mock God, to....." It is the ultimate opposite of what God intended us to be. If we became like the rebel, we will become a mockery to God and therefore, Satan has achieved part or one of his goals and avenge his fate.
So, the rest of the other "creations", they are just on the sidelines, either awaiting for the Great Battle to happen and that's when they will add some more actions or take further actions. Primarily because when they fell, they were not bounded to follow the Great Rebel. They were also divided among their kin, amongst themselves... But most of them were one with him in their Great Scheme---to bring down man with them. But some even if their leader lost some of his leadership charisma with their kin, founded some of their own kingdom, created some of their own havoc, or interference with God's creations. Some may not be so blatant with their own private schemes, but still most of them, became as distorted and as bane as their leader. Even if some, were not as blatant still when they lost their connection with their Creator, they didn't lose their powers, they had all their freewill and time in the world to do what they thought best for themselves. That is why, in my opinion, not all of those 1/3 followed their leader. They were free now to do what they like and not to do somebody else's bidding. Why not make the most our of what they now have? Since they can't return to their previous state, why not make the most our of what they now have?
The rest of the fallen, thinking along these lines now: Why would I still subject myself to another dictator after I have just left one of the highest level and still kept my powers? Who's Lucifer to us now to say what we should and shouldn't do? Who's he that I should do his bidding? He's not my creator nor my leader now, we all suffer the same fate and lost the same thing. Why can't I now go my own merry way using my own powers like I want to, how I want to, when I want to?......

So again, in my not so humble opinion, these aliens and what the church now calls as an "extra terrestrial brother" remains to be part of the "one-third of the stars that has fallen from the sky".....

And I truly agree with the Vatican astronomer which says, that:
If aliens exist, they may not need redemption.....
(AMEN to that)

TRULY....
