Since Mary is a queen, she will have eight maids of honour. Maids of honours were traditionally unmarried, usually quite young, and either well known or related to the queen they were serving. Under the reign of Mary I and Elizabeth I, becoming a maid of honour was considered a form of schooling, and an ideal method by which young girls could attract a husband. So any female character who is unmarried, feel free to post here.

A lady-in-waiting was almost always a noblewoman, but lower in rank than the woman she attended, and for that reason they were not servants like maids of honour, but companions. The selection process for ladies-in-waiting was not similar to maids of honour, who were usually well known to the woman they intended to serve. Ladies-in-waiting were not only chosen by the woman they served, but they also had to be considered by the woman's parents and her ministers as well. So noble born female characters, feel free to post here.

But really, any offer from any woman at court is welcome, particularly for those players with characters who have been slightly displaced by the new direction the site is taking. We want to ensure everyone is given something to do.

Ladies-in-waiting were divided into 4 separate caste systems -

--Great ladies,
--Ladies of the privy chamber,
--Maids of honour
--Chamberers.

The ladies of the privy chamber were the ones who were closest to the queen, and most of the other women were the maids of honour. Female relatives were often appointed because they could be trusted confidantes to the queen.

The Great Ladies functioned in infrequent, chiefly ceremonial roles, while the Ladies of the Privy Chamber were especially privileged in seeing to the queen's most intimate needs as she readied herself for bed and prepared for the intricate task of getting dressed in the morning.

Maids of Honour were young unmarried women who attended the queen, learning the ways of court and there attracting the attention of the King's most eligible courtiers. Mothers among nobility fought long and hard to get their marriageable daughters positions as Maids of Honour.

The last category, The Chamberers were the most humble of the queen's personal female servants.

Here are the list of historical ladies in waiting and maids of honor whom served Queen Mary during her reign.
